Dogs have some innocent but irksome tendencies-like barking, leash pulling, jumping, digging, chewing and eating garbage-that can sometimes make them difficult to live them!
To make the most of your relationship with your dog, you can teach your dog some important skills that will help them live harmoniously in a human household. Training your pooch will improve your life and theirs, enhance the bond between you, and ensure their safety-and it can be a lot of fun.
In this video, we’ll talk about 8 easy and important things to teach your dog, and explain the training process in an easy way that any dog can understand.
Leash Pulling
Dogs pull on the leash because it works - it gets them where they want to go.
If your dog starts pulling on the leash, turn yourself into a “tree.” Stand very still and refuse to move until your pooch comes back to you.
Ignoring your commands
Dogs may ignore our commands because we have unwittingly trained them to do so. When you repeat a command too many times, you’re actually desensitizing your pup to the meaning of the word, and your dog will start to tune it out and ignore you.
Train dogs not to eat off the ground
The “leave it” command can be used to stop dogs from eating garbage or things off the ground. It can even stop a dog from chewing power cords or your favorite pair of shoes.
Place a treat on the floor with your toe or hand over it and say “Leave It”. Your dog will lick and nose at you and try to get that treat. Eventually though, they will stop trying and glance away. As soon as your pet stops trying, give them a huge fuss, and a reward. After several repetitions, your dog will understand the meaning of the “Leave It” command.
Train dogs not to beg for food at the dinner table
Dogs beg for food by their puppy eyes. But make sure not to give in to their puppy eyes. By feeding your dog table scraps, you are essentially telling your pooch that if they beg for food, they will get it.
Your furry friend will eventually realize that their puppy eyes don’t pay off and they will stop begging you.
You can also use basic commands like “Sit” or “Leave it” to discourage impulse-based behaviors. For example, if your dog jumps up on your lap to beg for food while you eat, simply tell them to “Sit”.
Train your dog not to jump
Oftentimes, dogs jump because they like to sniff a person's face. Dogs greet each other nose-to-nose, and they want to do the same with us. Since our noses are not at their level, they jump up to reach our face.
The first step is to ignore the behavior and only give attention when they have all their paws on the floor. If your dog jumps up on you, and you give them some kind of attention, you’re basically telling them you approve this behavior so jumping continues to happen.
If your dog jumps on you when you come home, immediately walk away and close the door. Wait about one minute, and then walk back in to greet your dog. If he still jumps on you, walk away again and close the door. Keep doing this until they calm down.
If your dog jumps on you while you’re preparing a meal or their food, don’t push them away; They will probably think that jumping wins them some attention;
The Quiet Command
If your dog barks excessively inside your home or at strangers, you can teach them the Quiet command to stop barking on command.
Dogs may also bark at people or other dogs if they haven’t been socialized well enough.
Another reason for a dog’s barking is boredom or loneliness. Dogs are pack animals. When they are left alone for long periods of time, they can become bored or sad and often bark excessively.
But let’s now talk about how to teach your dog the ‘quiet’ command.
To do this, you will first need to teach your dog the ‘speak’ command.
Do something that will cause your dog to bark. As soon as your dog barks, immediately mark the behavior with a command like “speak!”, and reward them with a treat. Repeat until your dog learns to bark when you say “speak”.
Now you can teach them the quiet command. Hold a treat in front of their nose and say “speak!”. The instant your dog stops barking, say quiet. If your dog stays quiet for a few seconds, give him the treat and a huge fuss. After several repetitions, your dog will understand the meaning of the “Quiet” command
Treats
Make sure that your treats are good for dogs’ health and manage the calorie intake. You should avoid sweets and chocolates because they can harm your pet.
And it’s best to train your dog before their meals. A dog with a full tummy may not be interested in your rewards, and sudden movements can disturb their stomach. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Here’s a way to teach your dog to give a high five. Have your dog sit down and sit down next to them. Put your hand in the air at about the height of their face, and say “high five”, and lightly grab their paw and put it into your hand. Then praise them and give them a small treat. After, have them sit down again and sit next to them. Put your hand up and say “high five”. If they don’t give you a high five, repeat the entire process. Keep doing this and at some point, your dog will finally put their paw in your hand. Make sure to praise them after and give them their favorite treat.
Fun story: I accidentally taught her the high five. I also didn’t give my dog any treats yet she still learned how to high five. Basically I kept joking around and high fived her and days later when I put my hand in front of her and said high five, her paw pressed into my hand😆
I only did that a thousand times... Lol.

I just randomly taught my border collie puppy to handshake for just like 20 second next day he gave his paw whenever I showed him my hand he is just 50 days old and he did it without any treats or anything.
We only have border collies. They are the smartest breed and amazing creatures

Thanks, your video is shorter than most covering just one of these training topics. Have to say though that the standing still doesn't always work when they pull. I'm a hefty woman and my 60 lb dog can yank me off my feet with a good pull. Another method that worked better for me was turning around and going in the other direction so I was applying opposite force(or whatever, not a science person at all)

Their is also a different way to do the first thing. You say ah oh and walk the other way. That’s also a way for a dog to understand pulling has no effect. But the way explained here is also very good

I think that would make them think that we don't like them and may make your bond with dog my start to break so love them after giving them a treat
I adopted the Cesar Milan method of going "tssst" when my dog does something inappropriate.
It works great.
I do that too- accompanied by a light shoulder tap. It doesn’t harm them and it just sudden enough to let them know they weren’t supposed to do that.

Puppy biting can take some time to discurish, since puppies need to bite at a young age and thats how thye learn about the world. But redirecting is important here. Zak George has some very good video of how to stop puppy biting :)
Yea He pulls I stand still and he runs circles around me. If I don`t get the leash over my head fast enough it's Choke dad time.

If he does not sit I will up to him face to knees and ask him "What do you do?: He sits and I praise him.

I make him smell hit treats (Like a cigar) then I hand it to him. He is slowly learning patience. We are working on not rushing to get out of the car now.
He can not go up to 12 hours before he has to go outside and walk (Potty). Not perfect yet but getting close on this.

i just want to say that when you teach your dog `leave it` For example with a treat like he showed in the video, the dog has not generalized `leave it` in different contecsts and eviroments. Remember, dogs are most likely not going to listen to commands in distracting enviroments if you havet set up training for it. And last, it`s our job to make sure the dog doesnt pick up something that can be harmfull or even dangerous for them.
I have an ex street dog and it's impossible for me to stop her eating. She sniffs it out and eats it in seconds when I dont even know there is anything there.
I've only had her a couple of months and she is adorable except the lead pulling and wanting to eat everything she can find bit I am really struggling with those two
An ex-street dog is probably ALWAYS going to have food issues, you're lucky if it isn't food aggressive after what its gone through. So don't feel bad or expect much change. Animals get PTSD just like us.
With the pulling you'll need to try different tools (harness, collars, halties, clickers, etc) and techniques.
Animal shelters often have "yard sales" of items people donate, esp animal products they buy & don't properly desensitize the animal to B4 giving up due to the pet's initial reaction to it... Pedipaws being the perfect example, you can get them for a couple bucks that way.
Some respond to an "I'm going to stand in one spot until you stop pulling THEN we go on" approach.
Some need the harsh "Ah! Ah! Ah!" our mother's used to use on us to distract & redirect them.
Some need treats or a favorite toy to entice them (which are gradually fazed out as they progress).

If the standing still described here doesn’t work, try this. Every time that they pull, turn around and go the other way. I have a two year old Westie that was an insane puller when walking. He quickly figured out that pulling didn’t get him where he wanted if I turned around. Worth a try!
When he pulls you, you make an 360 circulation constantly hence they realized that if they pulled we just going to be going right around again and they'll get adapted and understand.

Wish I could teach my dog to speak but I've only ever heard her bark 4 times and it was only when she saw a rabbit outside. She doesn't even bark at them every time.
Just keep exploring on what makes your dog bark! My dog doesn't bark much too, but I realised that she only barks when others bark or when I knock on the door! I'm not saying your dog WILL bark, but the is something he will bark AT!

That can mean that you are not using you dog`s favourite currency. MAny people think only treats can motivate a dog, but some seccongds of play, fetch or tug can be great!

Depending on the breed, your knee may actually end up being your chest. I have 2 chihuahuas that tried doing that and their toenails scratches hurt

You just stop, and wait until the dog comes towards you - may take a minute or two - praise them when it comes to you Then get them to sit by your side, & then resume your walk with a word like "walk" "forward" etc. You may have repeat it several times the first and subsequent walks, but over a week or two the dog will learn not to pull. Happy walking!

Biggest mistake I see a lot is owners shouting dogs name to get it to come ....dog ignores owner. Why wouldn't it as it has no idea why your shouting its name. Use a word like "here" , I trained all of mine by walking them on a extending lead then would randomly call "Here" and gently guide dog back to me and give lots of fuss on its return.

@@yaboymina7942 my dog is turing 1 in two days and i just taght him paw this morning after a lof of petience but the reason it took him so long is cause he’s very tiny and can barely lift his paw up cause he’ll fall down. I saw him lift his paw up to his face to wipe it and thats when i decided to teach him paw. Just keep in mind that it takes a lot of patience
