Its crazy to think that if animators didnt so well on the prince of egypt they were sent to work on shrek and its nice but also sad to realize no one actually watches or even knows about the prince of egypt. Its one of my favorite movies❤

As I heard they wanted to do long hair as Disney with their princesses did, but ended up with a braid that is actually more accurate to the times even tho it's a fairytale it's still medieval fairytale.

People shouldn't be complaining just because of one small detail that they messed up. The animators actually worked hard on the animation and atleast has talent unlike the complainers.

Even state of decay 2 had really rough hair designs and it dropped in 2018. Especially when hair clips threw armor it’s just something in general that can’t be created with out having to work on it but still the video was cool and funny to watch 😂
Shrek animators struggled because originally Shrek was nude and his HUGE, PRICKLY, GREEN BALLS kept bouncing up and making it hard for him to hug other characters without his SHREKicles getting in the way.
Everything was easy even back then. Technology used in 3D graphics was mostly researched in the 70's with last breakthroughs in the 90's. The real problem was with raw compute power and amount of RAM available. It took hours or days to generate few frames, which made workflow really tedious and time consuming. The real challenge was with designing stable models and effects that generated good visuals in reasonable time. Today even regular gaming PCs have more than enough power to do everything Shrek team ever wanted but couldn't do back then.
fun fact: Hair is still really hard and it is nearly impossible to create good looking hair that moves physically in real time renders like Games. That's why Hair that is physic based usually likes to clip and go all the way where it shouldn't go - of course, in offline renders that are movies, these things are now way easier to do as the character is pre-rendered and doesn't need physic based flow.
If you want to know when animating hair got better and more realistic, look into the movie "Brave". Pixar created new software specifically to make her hair look and move more realistically.
One thing for flipaclip animators if a hand or object is being moved fast or dropped put the item or hand in the position you want it copy that frame then put back to the original position then use the third tool and stretch it out after that paste then end position frame I will soon post a vid on that
The thumbnail itself gave me instant trigger nightmares of Shrek 2 where they showed the glitches of what went wrong like long legged Shrek and invisible horse. The flying hair is what SCARED ME.

Yes, that's why the hair in Pixar's Encanto is so amazing! Just look at all the different Hai types in Encanto! Also, curly hair is difficult to create/animate.
I remember watching the behind the scenes on the 1st release of monsters Inc & they made a huge deal about Sullys fur, it was the hardest part of the whole film but had I not watched the bts feature on the dvd I wouldnt have ever considered how talented the animators were. Now I appreciate it more than any other part of the film...strange how things like that stick with you as a kid too 🤔

It’s nice to see their evolution and how they worked with the technology they had at the moment geniuses and it paid off!
