    The Tudor Black Bay 58 was released back in 2018 to universal praise and for good reason. Tudor finally created a smaller 39mm vintage diver that wears incredibly well. Tudor then continued on to release the slightly more modern looking BB58 Blue and this was my chance to finally experience the solid refinement and simplicity of a Black Bay. The following year Tudor made waves again by introducing the Black Bay 58 925 which is not only a precious metal BB58 but one done in silver with a grey dial and bezel. This was the perfect combination for me and I had to get it.
    So if these iterations of the BB58 were so seemingly perfect, why have I decided to sell both of them? Well there are quite a few reasons that slowly compounded over the years and then there is the Black Bay Pro, Tudors all new smaller sized GMT watch, based off of the Rolex Explorer II (one of my favorite watch designs). So in this video, I’m going to go over two things, first why, the BB58s more so the BB58 Blue were almost constantly near or on the proverbial chopping block even before the BB Pro came into the picture, and then I’m going to get into why the BB Pro sealed the deal and pretty much killed off my BB58s despite them being the wonderful watches that they are.

    I sold off about 5 watches after I got the Pro, it covers off pretty much all my casual watch needs, so bb58 went, Seiko spb147 adios, Hamilton Pilot Pioneer byesy bye, and finally danke shon to the Sinn 556a but y’all must go. I love that your videos are not just constant spec sheets but more discussing your collection journey, which is really relatable

    The Tudor BB58 is an enigma to me. I wanted one for so long until I got it on the wrist. It's a good sized watch, looks nice but once it's on the wrist the experience is so bland. If it were food, it'd be porridge. Fills you up and gives tones of calories but completely uninspiring and dull. I owned mine for just under 3 months before I moved it on. Also congrats on 10k subs.

    • @Kinegos
      @Kinegos ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To each their own. Every time I put on my BB58 I get excited and I love every minute it’s on the wrist. I never get tired of looking at it. And I have a lot of crazy watches from micro brands. To me the BB58 got everything almost perfect (save lacking on the fly clasp). But it’s very subjective. Like the BB pro - I think it’s ugly as sin and I wouldn’t ever want one.

    • @stevebennett7783
      @stevebennett7783 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kinegos 100% agree. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things. My current love is a 62mas. It gets so much wrist time and is an icon but others will tell you that Seiko are crap watches... All that matters is that you enjoy the watch and ignore what anyone else says.

    • @watchyouwant1617
      @watchyouwant1617 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree. Tudor as well as most Rolexes are very good quality watches, probably with the best bracelets in the business but over all quiet boring design-wise. But that probably the reason why they are also more or less timeless

    • @hushhushhomerun
      @hushhushhomerun ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spot on description. I kinda feel that with most watch purchases after the novelty wears off. So maybe it often is all about the buying process than the actual watch itself. But with the Tudor BB58 it definitely is the porridge of watches to me as well.

    Great video, and I can see why you're selling them. One of the main reasons I purchased the BB Pro was the clasp. I also love the vintage look it has. I have a feeling you'll pick up another BB58 when the new one comes out. Hopefully Tudor releases it early next year. I'm sure it's going to have the new T-fit clasp. And I believe it will once again be Tudors best selling watch. Tudor is giving it's customers a nice range of beautiful watches to choose from, the new 39mm Pelagos, Ranger, and the Pro all released this year. Congrats on the 10k subscribers.

    • @Marco-jc4zx

      @mrlex4725 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Marco-jc4zx Nothing official from Tudor yet. But I've heard some rumors. One of them was from my local AD. Tudor is planning something for next year, couldn't really go into specifics. In late June of this year, my AD told me that a new watch would be released. That ended up being the Ranger in early July. The Pelagos 39 was a surprise since I didn't visit my AD for some time. But as soon as it came out I was contacted. Fingers crossed in the hopes that it is an updated BB58, as it would be a anniversary year for that model. If they don't update it with a T-fit clasp like on the Bronze version and other models. I think they'd be leaving possible sales on the shelf with their most popular model. Not everyone is a fan of the Pro, Ranger or the new Pelagos. I love the Pro and that's why I purchased one, but you hear very little hate of the BB58. But you do hear watch fans say I wish this model had the updated clasp. As do I. I'll try to get more info from my AD and see if they have any news. Thank you.

    It's really interesting how our brains work and I think you explained it very well TWI. As soon as we 'think' about selling an item because it's not being used that seed is planted, the less likely we are to use it so it becomes ma self fulfilling prophecy. I can to totally understand the trigger to sell your BB58's following the purchase of the BB Pro. Although I'm more than happy with my BB58 (black and guilt model) this may be the watch that has had a little less wrist time since I got my BB Pro. I have asked myself if one day I need to sell my watches due to financial difficulties, which one will be the first to be sold first. It's the BB Pro! Simply because it can fetch the highest price at resale market and it is still in the best condition (all my other watches somehow have accumulated lots of fine scratches). I kind of feel the same about my blue black bay. My first and only Tudor watch and idk just was not for me I guess. My biggest complaint is the fit. I can’t get a perfect size on my wrist despite having the uncle seiko half link. Then I don’t like the bracelet. For me it is a bit too thin in width. That might sound silly but it’s probably the first thing I noticed about it when I got it on my wrist. Then I don’t like it not having a date. Maybe I’m in a minority but I prefer my watches to have a date function. I have mine listed on eBay and Reddit to sell mine haha.

    • @huckinator
      @huckinator ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And another thing to add, I got a black dial oris aquis caliber 400 41.5mm and it had dominated my wrist time lately!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  ปีที่แล้ว

      lol if only they added an extra microadjust hole especially since theres space for it on the clasp! I got the uncle seiko half link and the fit worked out for me but there were other little problems and then the main issue about whether or not it was worth having that much money locked in a watch i wasnt wearing as much.
      I'm with you on having the date function, i conceptually like no date and i think it looks great but having a date is just so helpful that i miss it when i wear my BB58s or speedy! Also the Oris Aquis 400 is so awesome the aquis has been on my radar for years now and i never got around to it bc of the inability to swap straps but now that I'm a full on bracelet guy i think its time to make the jump! How does the 41.5mm wear conmpared to the BB58? I'm guessing they're quite similar given the case design of the Aquis

      @@thewatchidiot the aquis wears super well. I have a 7 inch wrist and could EASILY went 43 mm but I wanted the newer movement. It’s thicker than the bb58 but I think it’s just way more my style for sure. Doesn’t feel like 41.5mm at all I don’t think: they’re very close in that regard!

    The black BB 58 was mildly interesting at first. The blue one is as interesting as a blue VW Golf.

    Great video. The pro is a great watch with the T fit bracelet. However, the BB58 blue is almost perfect to me. Granted the bracelet can let it down but I'm fortunate to be able to get a perfect fit with it. When they add the T fit you will be back lol. This hobby is so addictive

    Beautiful watch…Looks a little too small for your wrist though.

    Wow- selling both! But I am sure you'll never sell the Pelly.

      I was close to keeping it but I'm glad that it found a good home with someone who'll be able to use it more!

    Keep the enthusiasm going, but the blue AND the 925 is the same watch. Why was the blue harder to wear than the 925. Oh yeah I’m the idiot, it’s on a strap. Keep it up. 😊

    Perhaps you were just bored of the 58? Afterall you do own two of them, i had a similar experience where i let my greed get the better of me, two exact same watches with different dial colors. It got boring really fast and made me appreciate it less

      Thats awesome to hear man! I'm usually a little wary of setting other's expectations but the BB Pro is just such a special watch, 5 months on and i have zero doubts and it still feels so good! Hope you get yours soon, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    No Tudor watches for me, too thick and I hate snow flake hands
    I have the Olko Steinhart steel bezel, that’s as close as I get.

    Hey big Guy, I kind of understand how you feel about being extra paranoid about wearing certain higher end watches, but I made a mental switch. Did the watch belong to me? Or did I belong to the watch? I chose the former and you'd be surprised on how I'm just banging them around and not letting them keep me from having fun. I'm going on a 2-week hunting trip and guess what's coming with me, Rolex Hulk and I'm talking about River rafting and building survival bunkers. No Tents, Fire Pits and potential Rain and Mud. It was a Bruce Williams vid that inspired me to enjoy what these watches are supposed to do. Kinda sad about you getting rid of your BB's but you're doing it the right way in my opinion. If you've lost that lovin feelin like in some relationships, you move on and find that one that re-kindles the flame. (So, to Speak). Cheers! Buddy.👍

      I actually tend to subconsciously baby all my watches even my seikos lol! The price aspect will remain but for me even when i try to get some character scratches on my SKX or Alpinist i cant just bc I'm naturally always aware of where my hand is. Thankfully over the course of 5 years I've managed to get some character scratches on my Pelagos, mainly because its achieved rock solid keeper status. I'm hoping to get more so i think its time to watch that BW video and take it out for a 2 week hunting trip!
      Yeah I'm sad about selling my BB58s too but in the end once i think that i might sell a watch, i pretty much stop wearing said watch just so I can keep the watch pristine and from there its just a downward spiral of not being able to rekindle the flame because I'm just not wearing it! Onwards to the next watch 😂
