    How many people go cave exploring? It's probably a little more than those that need an helium escape valve on their Diver for when they saturation dive:)))))

      I did it once with a team (we decided to go through a mountain instead of over it) - Dark, Cold, Disorienting and everything on you will be scratched or scuffed 😆

      Man, I saw a mini doco on a family that were cave explorers. They were quite experienced and often spent weekends underground. This weekend the eldest son didn't make it back to camp.
      Turns out he got stuck and couldn't back out. They found his body a month later in a vertical 'shaft'. Head down. Died of exposure.
      I'm not sure speleology is for me.
      But the Explorer II was also aimed at those transversing the poles, places where one experiences long spells without a sunset or sunrise.
      Re. your point on HEV’s; couldn’t agree more. I’m I correct in saying that there are fewer than 200 people able to dive to depths that require an HEV?

    Tudor is at its best when they're not copying Rolex. There's so much more potential with the brand with its original designs. Next, work on the proportions and it could cannibalize Rolex in a serious way

      Hit the nail on the head with this one Brian. They have so much of their own inspirations to go on (and have made killer pieces in the past) Sadly, money and demand will always talk - dictating what has to be "valued" most. • @ID-Guy

      It's an issue. ETA movements are tried and true and have been a huge success. Sadly with their in-house work, Tudor still hasn't nailed the slimness of their movements. Guaranteed this is what they'll be working on for a while now (becasue it's a complaint that everyone has) 😆

    Mmmm I really don’t like the idea behind the Explorer II, a frankenstain watch that does not have it’s own prrsonality. This new Tudor doesn’t get anyware as well. Talkin as a watch user and an industrial designer.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has gotten to a stage where there's this "franken" quality around it. The original identity disappeared as we hit the 80's. The Polar redeems it in someways, but it's an odd one for sure. Such a pity that it lost it's signature from the 70's 🥃

  • @derekbrettell8121
    @derekbrettell8121 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me this watch is completely overrated. I don't understand the hype and its another Rolex homage watch. Although I do really like the original BB GMT, it is simply too thick and out of proportion. Aesthetically it doesn't work. I know people love it and I really wanted to love it myself, but its proportions are flawed just like this one.
    If Tudor wants to be thought of more than just a budget Rolex then it needs to address its dimensions. I mean a 39mm case with over 14mm thickness!? Absolutely ludicrous! I feel sorry for people who end up buying these only to sell a few months later (it will happen).
    I want to love Tudor I really do buy they have some work to do. Still a long way to go.

    A 24 hour indicator is also useful for very specific working conditions, such as those working on submarines. I can tell you that it is extremely easy to lose track of day and night when you're submerged for a month straight.

    • @aussieexpat
      @aussieexpat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, this would also be good for saturation divers who stay at depth, devoid of any natural light for a month. Or even just to keep track of their actual home timezone so they know when they can call the fam.
      Missing the escape valve though... but berpahs simply unswrewing the crown would be good enough for that?

      I work at NASA, and for Mars missions we sometimes work on “Mars time,” which is a 25-hour day. And we work in a windowless command center. Needless to say, your circadian cycle gets messed up bad within a week or two. A 24-hour watch with a date function would have been great for my stint 😅
      That said, I’ll take a proper traveler’s GMT over a non-independent 24-hour hand any day

    I’m Tudor fanboy but this watch is lazy. Build a homage watch and leave it as thick as a hockey puck🙄 When a company like Christopher can build a well proportioned watch for a quarter of the cost and Rolex ‘a little brother can’t there is a problem.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a huge gripe that basically everyone has around this (especially the size) I reckon Tudor is going to be doing a lot of spending to get these movements thinner over the next two years. I'm in the same boat, can't appreciate a thick watch 🥃

  • @anthonysmith2982
    @anthonysmith2982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The height worries me. And baffles me. ETA/Selitta, SoProd ect. all have GMT mov’ts that sit well in sub 13mm high timepieces - granted not with a ‘travellers’ feature, a 4hz beat rate and an extended power reserve. Obviously next door the boys and girls at Rolex have managed to fit those bells and whistles into a slim movement. It suprises me that Kinissi we’re unable to do so off the bat.
    This trend to smaller watches is not only about diameter. It’s about wearability in general- which extends to weight and height.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nicely articulated Anthony. Nowadays we want size but also usability from a thinner case (especially for daily wearers) Something tells me lots of money will be pumped into making these movements smaller. Maybe as early as next year we'll see a difference. With Longines and their Zulutime making a killing, guaranteed Tudor will be wanting to catch them 🥃

      I can’t say I’m an expert but I suspect as production becomes more and more expensive there’s the inclination to rely more heavily on branding creating a product identity that is easily identifiable and not very challenging and it seems as if a great deal of the customers are very happy with this After all Rolex has become the watch for men who wear things made famous by men who did things

    I actually liked this watch when it was announced. I think it looks best on the nato, though the clasp on the bracelet is awesome. I, like everyone else, wanted a BB58 sized Black Bay GMT, 1 to 1 copy. But the Pro actually worked design wise for me and it was a little bit unique even though it’s inspired by the older Explorer. I was even thinking of picking the watch up until I saw the thickness spec and saw how thick it actually looks. It’s too much for my small wrist. I love the dimensions of the BB58 but I couldn’t imagine being able to pull off a much thicker version of it. Hopefully a future version brings that thickness under 13mm then I’d be very interested again.

    I like the BB Pro. Regarding the thickness... I think all one needs to do is give the watch a fair wear for at least a week or two. If you're used to thin or otherwise more compact watches...it may be a bit of proportion shock to have something you'd not normally wear on wrist. But, whether it be a much larger or much smaller watch than you'd normally wear. Forget all the other watches in your collection and just wear the one in question for a good while and it'll all start to feel and look more natural and less offensive than one might have thought at the beginning... Unless it is a truly poorly designed and uncomfortable, then there's no overlooking or getting used to that, perhaps.

    I like the look of the Pro but the thickness is holding me back. The Farer Lander GMT is 39.5mm case and 10.8 mm thick using a SW330-2 so I would be beating down the doors to get this Tudor if it was thinner. The Farer is a micro brand and I would much rather have a Tudor to pass to my boys I just wish it was thinner. I have a BB58 and love it and wish it had this GMT new bracelet on the BB58. I quite like it as looks nice and feels like a tool as opposed to screaming “luxury”. By the way my AD said I can get the new steel Submariner or Explorer if I first get a datejust, so I put my name for the steel, jubilee, fluted bezel, blue dial, stick markers in 41mm. I think it’s a good looking watch. What’s your thoughts on it as a everyday watch?
    I’m loving my steel Daytona panda but after over 5 years of wearing it everyday looking to add another to the collection to celebrate the soon arrival of our daughter. I think it’s nice to have a story behind it.
    Cheers mate, hope you are keeping well and fully recovered now 👍🏻

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Reza! All recovered now luckily (after a good 3 weeks of taking it slowly) Your choice of a fluted DJ with black dial & sticks is superb. So hard to beat AND I'd own one in a second! My only question would be the size. If 41mm's suits you then it's ideal as a daily. The way I seem to work is some days when I'm not in the mood for a bigger watch (41 - 42) I'm usually switching between a 39, 36 or 35 (literally have all the sizes in the watch box 😆). If it was me, I'd be hunting a 36mm DJ for that timeless size BUT in saying that you could be getting the Explorer in 36mm soon enough too. Ah, you can't make a bad choice here... And again, wonderful news about your daughter, the day is fast approaching! Massive congratulations! Have a great start to your weekend sir! 🥃

    Very well articulated IDGuy, I have to agree with your views on this one. The bottom line is it needs.. no demands to be seen in the flesh to form an opinion of your own and not just follow the comments of others. The week it was released I had a call from an AD who asked if I wanted to make an appointment to have a look at it. With the YT videos along with many comments with a lot negative negative I didn't expect much but I did make an appointment for a couple of days later when I would be in the area and I'm very pleased that I did. As you say it is definitely the most tool watch reference in the BB line and it can be worn for almost any occasion that most of us may experience. It's not super shiny or in your face but does the job and does it well. It looks have been inspired by a watch that is no longer in production certainly but this is has modern mechanicals and manufacture. I love the sunray brushing of the bezel, the way that the date is executed to try (and almost succeed) to balance the missing marker at three. The applied plots and markers sans surround are purely functional with decent lume. It would have been nice if it was a thinner but we have to understand that the BB58 does not have a date or GMT hand that will add to the height of the hand stack. It's also worth noting that the GMT hand sits above the hour hand to clear the raised plots like it's GMT sibling. The dial is also mounted close to the crystal like the GMT and Pelagos that aids the already very good at a glance readability. I'm not bothered about faux rivets on the bracelet but also I'm not a fan and it may have been better without them. A big plus is that T clasp that arguably is one of the best on the tool less adjust around. My advice is see it, try it and decide on a purchase if you like it and can justify it. That's what I did.

    Great video once again. Also wearing an Omega (older PO with hot metal insert) today.
    I am waiting to receive this watch. I thing it is really useful and functional. The GMT master has too much focus on it therefore i am no longer wearing it when traveling. So basically the GMT master has lost its function for me. Can’t wait to have the Tudor BB Pro on my wrist.

    I was never really a fan of Tudor for any specific reason other than to say it was a cheaper rolex to be quite Frank, but since you present such an eloquent case for the watch brand especially this model it is worth a second consideration. When I buy a watch, i buy it for me not to show it off or to get attention. I love the meaning behind the watch and that is why you should buy it. This is such an expensive hobby. Anybody wanna buy a used batmobile with low milage? I hear there is an IDguy watch in the works.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tudor really do offer that kind of machine (more will be covered in the review of mine) but the whole "tool" watch niche they have nailed with a lot of their models (far better than other brands). It all depends on the Batmobile... You might be better off trading the gas guzzler for the latest electric model? 😆

    This watch does nothing for me, I really don’t like the steel bezel and I was under the impression to truly use the GMT function, you need a rotating bezel, maybe I am wrong though.
    Either way this watch will sell like mad, I would much rather the BB Heritage and have that nice burgundy bezel pop with the gold.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's an interesting one. The original 1655 was not technically a GMT because the hand couldn't be independently set. Technically speaking, all the new models that can set individually can be called GMT's. The bezel's on models today have become an added luxury that lets you set up to three timezones at once (which is quite awesome) - And those original Heritage models with Roses and Smiling text... if that design style returned with these newer pieces, Tudor would have my money for one 😉

    • @c1pher428
      @c1pher428 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ID-Guy ah ok that makes sense now, telling 3 time zones great functionality!
      I still feel like the Longines Zulu Time is a game changer for the price point as well, especially with that jazzy bracelet release.
