- In today's video I thought I'd have a go at something a bit different and try an abstract landscape painting. It's not a tutorial as such as I've never actually tried it before so wasn't quite sure what was going to happen. I hope you enjoy it 🙏

A lot of fun ! Warm the tape (painters tape) up with a hair dryer and it won't tear the paper!
Thank you for the tip 🙏☺️
Thank you for this tip seems like every time I take tape off it tear my paper
No no noooo you are not making a mess…..this is beautiful. Thank you Jay…glad i found you.
Brilliant! It’s encouraging to us that you admit mistakes and how to fix them.
Wow!!! Yes, more of these.
I really love the moodiness in this piece; most definitely speaks to me. Also, I’m going to try this technique. I’m new to watercolor and this seems like something I could do.
Thank you 🙏 You can do it!! 😊
I really enjoy this. Everyone can interpret abstracts differently and that's what's amazing about them and I think they feel a bit more freeing. Hope that makes sense but that's just my thoughts. Have a great day
Jay, that was brilliant. 'Make a mess with me' should be a regular feature. Always good to do something out of our comfort zone and you certainly did that. I loved watching the process. At one stage it looked a bit Turner ish. That soon passed though when you blobbed on more paint lol. That paper was the equivalent of a Hobnob. Took a good soaking. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Jay.
Thank you. You're very welcome 🙏 I was really impressed with the Baohong Academy paper. It handled all that water really well.
Would love to see more abstracts! ☺️
I'll definitely be trying some more soon 😊
I really love this, even though I've not been an abstract person. This looks like alot of fun and I can't wait to try it! I think it turned out great, thank you
I enjoyed watching this evolve. You did s great job and it looks awesome framed!
This is beautiful! Good color combo. Yes more abstracts, you do them well. Thanks 🌺
Thank you very much 🙏
Very nice! It looks like a frozen lake with a dark forest and a city in the distance... dark and light. I like it.
Thank you very much!
Your abstract painting is great, don't worry because you didn't give specific instructions. But when I look at the way you draw, I see that everything is very simple, and beginners like me can do it too. Abstract paintings always bring an interest and curiosity to me. Thank you very much.
You're very welcome. Thank you for commenting 🙏
Love it
It was very Turneresque very beautiful!
Thank you 😊🙏
It is very enjoyable to watch you play with paints. I absolutely want to try this myself!
Very nice! Looks like a misty morning over a lake. In my mind’s eye, it’s fall-first freeze is near. I’m looking at the scene from my mountain cabin, sipping hot coffee with a fire crackling in the stone fireplace behind me.
Bravo.
Thank you 🙏 Great to hear what you see in it ☺️
Great job! Its awesome to see you playing outside your comfort zone. 👏👏👏 it looks like you had a lot of fun also. It turned out very well and looks professional. TFS
Thank you very much Tracy. It was a lot of fun trying something new 🙏😊
This just popped up in my feed. I love abstract landscapes and paint them myself. I like how this turned out. I use low tack masking tape, and make sure that the paper is thoroughly dry. Hope to see more similar videos from you. 😊
Such a cool way of painting! I loved the end result.
Thank you ☺️
Nice experiment. I’d love to see more abstract videos
Amazing. I love it so much. Thank you so much for this vídeo!!
This is very inspiering! Please continue with more abstracts!
I really enjoyed watching you do this, makes me want to try something similar. I'd love to see more...
Have you tried warming your tape with a hair dryer before peeling it off... It helps loosen the adhesive and not tear when removing it...
You truly must be patient using this technique, but it turned out beautifully, very dreamy and surreal. I would love to see you do others like this as well as your usual style.
Thank you. It was fun to try. I'll have another go soon. 🙏☺️
Just started trying abstracts yours is really wonderful
First try, it's gorgeous
Thank you! 😊
loveley painting
Thank you
At last I found a leftie watercolour artist!
That’s a beautiful piece of work, all you need now is the Fighting Temeraire, Turner would like or fume over that.
Thanks for letting us watch your experiment, I really enjoyed it and liked the end result very much.
I love this piece. You are amazingly talented my friend, keep it up 👍
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say 🙏
Brilliant to see the whole process and your supposed 'mistakes'! More please!
I'm sure more will be coming soon ☺️
Very interesting Jay, it reminds me a bit of Turner, I don't know what you'll think but it's great.
I love to see you paint this way❤
I love this, turned out beautifully, Jay. I'm going to give this a go. I've seen loose landscapes done before but know they can't be as easy as they appear. This doesn't look too bad. Need to go buy a sprayer bottle.
Exquisite!
Great demonstration Jay! Love to see more!! ✨
Thank you ☺️
Beautiful!!!!!!!!
Love the painting.
Enjoyed it very much. Thanks
I think you did a great job and you handled the first run so well I’ve done this many times and I always go darker rather than later at first because I know when I add water it’s going to wash away anyways, so I let it get really messy give that a try. It’s kind of fun.
Love this process. Yes to more. I'll be trying this soon
Excellent 👍🏻😄
nice to watch the process! Thank you for the lesson!😊
Very nice, thank you!
Great painting! It so calming to look at! I'll also try to do this! Thank you for this video!
Thank you 🙏 Go for it! It's a lot of fun to do 😊
Fabulous! Painting by spray bottle! Will definitely try! Looking forward to seeing more!
Very nicely done!
Thanks for lessen master! I do it!
Enjoyed this very much,will try,thanks
Beautiful and inspiring
So cool, Jay! It's such a great way to just let go and let the pigments take over. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Thank you 🙏 It was a lot of fun doing it.
Beautiful…..more abstract please.
Looks great! Going to have a go at this.
Thank you very much Rich 🙏 Let me know how it goes 😊
Simple but effective and quite dreamy 😊

Thank you very much 🙏
Really, really good!
Thanks a lot!
superb
Thanks 🤗
Hi greetings from Costa Rica. I love it.....
Hey, thanks! ☺️
An excellent job delving into uncharted waters! I like the more ethereal feel to abstract art - especially where it still manages to represent some recognisable shapes. Scott Swinson is my favourite artist for this kind of technique with the spray bottle and moving all the paint around.
The masking tape damage can be avoided by using heat-gun, aiming it under the tape as you pull it up and away slowly from the paper. You just have to be a bit careful not to burn your fingers!
I actually found Scott Swinson's channel again, after painting this, when I started looking on TH-cam for abstract watercolor painters. I'm sure I'd seen his channel before but never paid much attention as abstract really isn't my thing.
I think his bottle is more directional where as mine is a mist. Maybe I need to invest in a new bottle?
I'm going to watch more of his videos before I do another abstract. See if I can pick up some tips.
This was super cool. I'm enjoying your videos a lot.
Thank you 🙏☺️
WOW!
☺️🙏
@@JayNathanWatercolor Sample Baohong paper arriving in 2 days. Going to try this! Just the right colors for my living rrom!
That was so much fun to watch! I can see a nice series of “Make a Mess with Me” videos. The landscape came out very beautiful. I love abstract landscapes.
Thank you 🙏 I'm glad you enjoyed watching. It was fun to do. ☺️
oh thats beautiful!! i think it really benefits from being in that white frame so the colors look a bit more punchy 👌🏻 in general not something ive tried doing, but maybe i should! i always tend to get hung up on details super early and then either ruining the painting or taking hours upon hours to finish it 🤪
Thank you very much 🙏 You should try. It's definitely a good way to forget about details ☺️
I love how it came out! Didn't want to use your good paint, huh? I used some Cotmans last month (was working large) and discovered that their transparent colors are full of filler and very much not transparent! They used to be so much better in the old days. I find it's great to practice my splattering on scratch paper before I go for it on the main painting!
Thank you 🙏 I was pretty happy with it too. Yeah I decided to use the Cotman, rather than artist grade, as I had the tubes of the colors I wanted to use and wasn't worried about wasting paint.
I don't know how Cotman paints used to be. I have heard that they used to use real cadmium and cobalt pigments in the past rather than the hues of today.
Maybe it's best to do that in the bathroom 😁
It's really messy to clean everything up but it's not as bas as with acrylic inks.
Haha I think so 🤣
youtube is apparently no longer notifying me about ur vids D: anyway, i liked this one! really outside of the box, love it!
Oh that's not good 😭 Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. It was a bit outside the box for me but it was fun to try 🙏☺️
Try unsubscribing and re subscribing. I've had this issue before and this helped 😉
Lifehack: you can use a hair dryer to remove the tape without damaging paper, just heat it up a bit.
use a plastic card
Love it
