HIDDEN Surge Tank, TWO ECU'S & A Beer Fridge? Barra Powered Crown EP3

  • With the Barra and TH400 mounted in Woody's Crown Wagon it's time to turn our attention to the all important support systems of fuel and electronics.
The fuel system is handled by the Raceworks catalogue starting with a surge tank that fits in the available space at the rear of the car. Some custom mounting and modification to the existing fuel tank outlet allows Raceworks 200 series PTFE AN lines and fittings to be used throughout.
Up front the Barra is being fed fuel via a Raceworks fuel rail and 1500cc injectors and the pressure is regulated by a GFB FXD AN8 fuel pressure reg.
Al then gets stuck into one of his favourite tasks, wiring the ecu. In this case he is wiring both a VCU and PDM in the form of the Haltech Nexus R3 VCU and a Haltech PD16 PDM. This new generation of Haltech products allows much greater flexibility in powering high demand pumps and motors and also control over the engine itself all from the same software interface.
Woody also tackles some creature comforts in the form of Air conditioning and a rear mounted fridge for cold lemon squash storage.

Guys, what were the fuel pumps, in the old Triumph world the guys are having trouble sourcing fuel pumps with enough hutzpah to run the mechanical fuel injection. We used to source Bosche fuel pumps from VNs but they are getting harder to get. The mechanical system run @ 100-120 PSI with a pretty heavy flow. Those pumps in concert may be the ticket... Also the mounting system looked plenty tidy.. any help with the model and specs would be great

They are commonly known as a pierburg 800 but I would say you would be after a Bosch "044" which is a common mechanical injection pump.

Hopefully woody insulated around the fridge, also cooling for that massive lithium battery wouldnt go amiss. Guess thats what the A/C is for? if no perhaps consider a fan to pull some air across the battery.

Its not your typical "phone blows up in your pocket" or "scooter that sets fire to your house while you sleep" lithium. Its a LiFePO4 battery. Different type of pixie dust. They are way safer, probably safer than a lead acid. More discharge cycles but less power density than your usual lithium.

@@yehnahthx I was more worried about having proper chilled lemon squash... But fair points.

It needs a gear vendors so you can cruise in your cruiser and still afford lemon squash. And maybe pull a trailer crown to the track while you’re at it.
