10:23 I'm trying to imagine this in real life. Thinking of two bored as hell soldiers at the top of the tower and one goes "bet I can hit those wolves over there" then he fires and impales one with a comically massive ballista bolt, all while the other marksman stands there *dumbfounded.*
Butchers improve swineherds massively, 2-3 can support 1000 people easily, same with Fishmongers. The reason you weren't getting any gold is because Hovels do not give good tax. You needed to get to Manors way sooner. Also, Manors have 2 heads of house which helps with distribution of food and charcoal.
I did end up with butchers and fishmongers - It's why the health was SO high after the midpoint of the game! :) As for manors yeah I agree, It was just the issue of wanting that limited stone in this mode for other things so It was gold + population efficiency vs more stone for defenses and other buildings. But near the end I do kinda come to that realization - 100% should have converted that center section into manors!
@@LathlandSomething I did during my 250 run was just building 2 wide wooden walls with moats on the other side, which was really effective. And of course some massive ballsita towers with the stone. All of that left a lot of room for manor building and other stone related expenses. I also only had 2 stone deposits on my island :D
ok since you seem knowledgable, why do my people have so much issue getting access to fish? i always have plenty of fishing huts and fishmongers to support them, but my people NEVER have fish.
The ones he made diagonal were placed such that the AI couldn't even land near them, the only access for enemy troops was if they had already gone into the fortress.

I'm not sure if you know this, but in case you don't, you can select an area and mass repair everything within instead of clicking things individually :)
When it comes to the dock, you can always build an internal dock by building moats into a landlocked area and putting the dock there. Then you can have the ships enter and leave through sea gates in your walls.
You can use gate sections as the base of an entire run of wall, then have a road run underneath it through all the open gates. Road + wall stacking has lots of potential implications.
would be interesting to see how ai players would be able to handle this, plus defending multiple islands and the early game buff of the ai distracting the vikings knowing what u know now as well with the witch hut and landing blocking couldbe pretty interesting
hey lathland i would also suggest if you havent already if you go into steam workshop and go into mods their is a mod called "new lands" which you can change the map size and features alot would be very cool for future videos
bad crash to windows or blue screen o' death?? or a personal, financial crash? or a car crash? or did you crash hard after getting drunk and smoking a really fat joint when you prolly shouldnt have and then you when you totally crashed out it was bad, cuz that girl you wanted get with at the party hooked up with your homeboy instead? please be more specific re: your personal crisis.
You can start festivals at the town squares to draw people to your growing kingdom. You usually get more above 70/80/90 happiness. 😊 Loved the vid Lath
Some tips for the next game and the algorithm: better to bring ballistas further out to the city perimeter so they are more able to target and sink boats. Can also do some space saving by building them on top of gates, that way they only sit on top of a road, although you'd want to eventually move them over to the walls. Vikings also tend to avoid targeting them, as they'd focus on weaker thinner portions of the wall, and a ballista tower is implicitly much stronger thanks to their height. This last tip is possibly false, but get some more docks, that way you can do more trading, more merchants show up.
10000% would love to see a megasode of this on Survival, just hyper efficiency, stacking happiness and abusing the AI pathing to choke them into deathlanes.

Would love to see another playthrough like this similar to what you said near the end of the video! A super optimized playthrough using all that you've learned will be interesting to watch.
I have enjoyed watching Lathrix suffer for so long, I forgot how long it has been. And yet I am not satisfied so far. More, MOAR!.. *ahem* Have some engagement for the video.
Next time around you should try and see if you can surround the entire island in walls on piers so that there's absolutely nowhere for the Vikings to land. See what that does to their AI. Also on that note, there's a water gate wall building that lets through friendly ships but not enemy ones, so you can use that to block off your dock from Vikings.

Yea I think they will just randomly try to breach a point but creating a shoke point trap with one place to land could be especially useful then if they have no other choice
@@plasant8408 I've now tested it myself. They just go to where they would have landed if there weren't any walls at all, and break a hole through using catapults since those can shoot from shipboard.

the sad thing is, long videos is why I keep coming back to your videos, people keep playing introductions to games and leaving and I am so sad when they play into the story and leave it there. I don't really have time to play every game that exists so listening to whole playthroughs is quite thankful to have them.
I’m glad to see someone on TH-cam (more so you) playing this game. I bought it years ago and loved it. I’ve been searching for other videos of this game since before I bought it and I’ve found few, except for ones in German. (If there are more TH-camrs covering this game than… Curse You the TH-cam Algorithm! (Just add the doofenshmirtz voice to that, and perfect))
This video inspired me to attempt the challenge. After three different maps, I finally have the beautiful statue! My tactic: pick island mode, no walls just towers for as long as you can, stick to one island, build a dock on a river and seal off the river (The Dock was INSTRUMENTAL for the victory), keep people happy and taxes high. 👍 Also do a ratio of Ballista/ Archers at 2/1.
This is my favorite game to watch you play, loved this playthrough aswell as the previous one And I implore you to try and see how long you can last next time
Here's a Challenge Hardest Level and play past 250 to 500 or till you are defeated. But don't Lose on purpose. I am sure some will like this but not all and it could take a very long time. Just a suggestion up to you if you want to or not. Like your videos a lot keep 'em coming :)
They definitely seem to play mostly by the rules. I lucked out on a playthrough where the aggressive AI spawned on a tiny, tiny island so even late game they couldn't muster any sort of army.

You can fully protect your fishing boats and docks by placing sea gates on the edges of the shallow water. That way vikings won't drop off units there anymore either and you can actually prevent vikings from touching down on your island completely
It's probably worth noting that archer towers also get range benefits from being higher up. If you can build a small handful of massive 2x2 pillars and have 2 ballista towers and 2 archer towers on each, you can get much more efficient coverage than you do with just the huge stacked ballista towers and swarms of small archer towers.
Hey Lathland, I think the reason the vikings started landing in random spots is because all your farms were behind walls. I'm only like 1/2 way through the video at the moment, but if you try leaving 3 to 4 farms as well as an orchard outside the walls I think they'll still be a priority target for landing targets. At times I feel like there's a bit of a saftey zone near your keep that prevents them from just landing with all troops to destroy you as long as there are other valid targets left. Might be why they didnt land near your foresters.

@@petralizzy7383 Are you building too many huts on the same few fish patches? You might be overfishing your available sources.
Remember to build the corners on walls instead of diagonally, the AI will target diagonal sections because they are weaker due to lacking corners

Moats do provide fresh water for norias. Very sneaky to build a little 1x3 pond for aqueduct setups.

While there are birds that can fly vertically (like the hummingbird), they are mostly small so i get the confusion with the bird.
