Firstly you can now find the Latest Movies similar to this video on a new playlist - th-cam.com/play/PLz_s8fD_-7sG5EPAqvXFw6OZK4WiVaLsa.html Today we embark on the longest run of any city builder I have EVER done on this channel! Going for the "Kingdom Of The Gods" Achievement along with a series of other goals including 10,000 population in the hardest difficulty was a massively time consuming task but also one I LOVED! I really hope you all enjoy this video as Kingdoms and Castles at this point has become something truly special for me at this point!
Hot tip! Moats count as a valid water source for the waterwheels, so you could build a 3x1 moat with a waterwheel and use that to place bathhouses anywhere on the island without using stone on aqueducts!
I expected that, if that's possible, that they'd at least check if it connects to a deep water tile, but I guess stagnant water is good enough for a bathhouse...
Based on how it appears they seem to choose a random legal tile for them to land on. Then they decide where to attack based on something? The algorithm for attacking is definitely disconnected from landing though.
Just look up the challenge runs people have done for Pokemon black/white. The ai on rotation battles is completely random. That means no safe switching no guaranteed KO and no safe switching.
the problem with the devs doing that, becomes far more clear at the end, where it targets a building it cant hit, so they try to land somewhere they cant land and just.. sit there. but it also points out they do try and go for specific buildings before even trying to land. "No matter how much you try to fight against something, someone will do it anyways and just do it better" - the internet in a nutshell and games in a nutshell.
@@solsystem1342 Actually no, the pathing of the vikings will start to execute once they get off the ship, as the ship pathing is different from the ground unit vikings. so the ship pathing picks a tile with the least defended and lands there, after that the ground vikings will pick the shortest and least defended route to attack the keep, thats why in the video the vikings land at where Lath quickly placed a land tile from creative mode and the ground vikings quickly made there way to the pier area with no walls as its the shortest route to the Keep.
Another helpful trick, horse carts. Just have a few different small storage locations throughout the kingdom and have horse carts move food from overflowing to the small ones where there's no food production. Kinda like semi trucks bringing goods to local distributors.
The best military strategy is to dig moats that are navigable by ships and have long walls along said moat for which you can fire at the boats and sink them before they ever land.
This works in hard mode, however it does not work in survival mode in my experiance, the AI seems to be different for the two difficulties. In hard mode the boats will follow the entire path, in survival they land from the boats as soon as thy hit a moat tile.
And less than 50 years later, without the Divine guidance of Lathrix, the Kingdom burns to ashes around them as they stop communicating with the Witch. And a massive Super Plague kills them all.
I love how this accurately portrays the limitations of medieval cities. They couldn't grow too large or else the poverty, starvation and squalor would get out of control.
I got myself kingdoms and castles recently. The normal mode was easy I felt like so I played the hardcore or how it's called again and survived fine for the 250 years on first try. And then I tried to continue but after 280 years my kingdom started to crumble. So, it's really impressive to see you survive for 1000 years. Great job!
Glory to Lathtopia! To be honest seeing the kingdom undergo its phases slowly converting certain areas was very satisfying eve if stone inefficient, 58:03 I know its just a small unintended bit but I loved how Lath goes "That doesnt seem like a bad idea" instant lightning afterwards XD
Man, I remember watching you FTD videos years ago, as well as your Stellaris videos. I love that you are still making content, and that you are still playing all the same games you did from back then. Seeing as you are still making videos about them, I hope you still enjoy playing them as much as I enjoyed watching them. You've got my respect and a sub, keep making what you love. Edit: I just went back into the channel, and I can't believe its been over 4 years since I last watched something from you're channel, and over 6 years since I've found it. Truly all the respect for continuing to enjoy what you do!
Lathland i have watched you since your first terratech playthrough and i just wanna say you make me go absolutely feral in the best way possible anytime you upload these long videos.
Some antidote here, absolutely great to watch and enjoy. Whether I be watching eating or listening as I fall asleep, it is a joy to have found a creator like you.
I just want to comment here because I’ve only recently found your content but I’m loving it so much! I can feel the love you put into this and I just wanted to make my voice known.
Something that would be hilarious is to take advantage of the early-game Vikings ai by building max walls all around the deep water so that they can’t get into the city. Then, you could funnel them through a choke point in the front and take them out with a small army of archers and soldiers. I’d love to see Lathland try that out in the next playthrough.
There should be like a meteorite spell or something from the witch that spawns more stone, it’s a really weird gameplay mechanic to just run out of stone and have to ship it in.
Lathrax: "I think im done being confused cause otherwise every single clip in the video will be me being confused." Everyone of his fans: Its ok Lath were used to it we love you for it
If Lath does a challenge like this again he should add some mods. Something like a housing mod so he can make truly a higher class and lower class area, or a mod that makes the land differently.
I've always known that Lathrix is definitely more situational aware and intelligent than he's giving himself credit for, but this sets that belief in stone! Makes me wonder how efficient Lathrix can make his next attempt, because there has to be another attempt, when he uses a rudimentary plan with all the tips and tricks that he has gathered throughout these recent videos! Same end goals as this run, with a ambition of reaching it earlier and seeing if it's possible to squeeze even more efficiency out of the game. Modular approach where surplus is minimized, for ultimate efficiency?
It's funny that this video popped up when it did because I had just watched two videos that were 30 minutes long but I watched them a double speed and I'm like this video is already over with I need something longer.
Pro tip: use clinics instead of hospitals :) They are cheaper and basically do the same job as a hospital but better (because it’s just more important to have doctors close to “patient zero”) Also rationing stone out in this mode is rly important 😅
That's Crazy my dude you did the full 1000 years ending with 10085 people you have made it to the new age. I hope they add a new era to this game I want to see you they your had that that if they do add it. The new era would have cannons and very basic fire arms aside from x-bows if you compare it to the real world.
Lath, I thought I'd point out another solution to getting food and other supplies across your city would have been to set up a transport network with carts/boats. That way, market works don't have to run the whole way. Besides, they look cool.
Hey lathrix, it might be smart to put ballistas on your outer walls, the vikings ship seam to hug them for a while, and the balistas will kill the shop before they even land.
Thanks for the nice vid :) This game is great! Small price but some depth, can play a challenging run as you did or a chill trading experience, 100% recommend
thanks for yet another great video. i cant imagine the work that goes into these longfrom videos even if i can imagine the time just to play through them. (playtime alone that is not the edit and processing times) love the longform vids both for active watching and running on spare screen while i play. well worth it as a viewer to wait for the next upload. i know they are horrible for youtube algo's but thankful for the time and effort you put into these :)
I would *LOVE* a Attack On Titan RTS game! Just think about how it could be? Panic levels, depression levels, counter attacks, expeditions, limited soldiers so defense, ingenuity and foresight would be the most important things. Think the levels would be insanely large so it'd make it impossible to oversee and guard all the walls everywhere. *Not* having it a turn-based Civ clone! Have it *REAL* *TIME* so you don't get to plan several turns ahead! No load screens. It would be glorious!
you should try using gardens as roads wherever possible. It'd make your subjects much happier, and iirc it only costs gold and wood (which you have in abundance)
Interesting. I believe I can learn a lot from analysing your playstyle here. For example, utilising archers to fight off Viking raids, expanding the walls of your kingdom right out to the deep water, only having a few massive towers for containing ballistas, separating the foresters and farms away from the houses that are protected by the kingdom walls temporarily, etc. another thing, I never knew that the great library could be used to research things, I only thought it was possible to learn new things via the merchant boats that can be used to sell charcoal to. 21:07 Regarding the archer technique on walls to defend against Viking invasions, I have ideas of separating archers with one tile of wall space per archer. So archer, space, archer, space, etc to use my archers more efficiently.
Here's a fun idea. Play a game with AI empires enabled where you slowly take over each of the empires one at a time and then build each one in a unique style.
If I had to speculate, I'd imagine the game loads Viking boats in in order: footsoldiers, then ogres, then catapults. Once soldiers+ogres exceeds the spawn cap of 100, there's no space for catapults to spawn.

Next do a video/movie like this one, but on Kenshi. 🤣
Oh... you haven't played Kenshi on the channel at all... Hmm...
whats the seed?
can u tell me pls?
Are you aware that there is an option in the Chamber of War to enable hazard pay which doubles the damage of military units?
lathrix can you please play avorion again it was so good and its been updated please revisit it

That's kinda nuts
I expected that, if that's possible, that they'd at least check if it connects to a deep water tile, but I guess stagnant water is good enough for a bathhouse...
1 by 1 moat works as well
hmm, raclette? i can smell the cheese from here 😊
It would be hilarious if the developers made the viking pathing mostly random just to confuse people who want to take advantage of it.
Based on how it appears they seem to choose a random legal tile for them to land on. Then they decide where to attack based on something? The algorithm for attacking is definitely disconnected from landing though.
Just look up the challenge runs people have done for Pokemon black/white. The ai on rotation battles is completely random. That means no safe switching no guaranteed KO and no safe switching.
bait Viking with gold

I LOVE horses for exactly that, they keep my fishing industry efficient.
Idk how to use them :')
Someone get this gentleman an achievement! 1000yr and 10k pops on the hardest difficulty is insane! Well done Lathrix!
The jousting knight just shout insults to eachother whilst passing, waiting for the other to die of emotional damage
Reminds me of the sword-fighting mechanic in Monkey Island
The best military strategy is to dig moats that are navigable by ships and have long walls along said moat for which you can fire at the boats and sink them before they ever land.
A zigzagging canal for the vikings?
@@KarolOfGutovoessentially. Line the walls with ballistas and suddenly it doesn’t matter how many Vikingsthey got if they sink in the water

"Unemployed people! *Sink that island* !"
Only one thing left to do... to make it OVER 9000!
An hour and 40 minutes of fun. Cannot wait to watch!
YES, I was really hoping you would do a 1000 years play through
I was hoping there's be multiple kingdoms.
@@Bloodlyshiva yeah that would make this much better
I'm so hooked on this game. Even when I'm not playing it I want to watch someone play it. Thanks for the great content!
Please do this with mods it would make the experience so much more exciting and add a new twist to the gameplay
I can't wait until he finds out about Diplomacy Is Not An Option.
I absolutly adore this channel, thank you for your existence.
This is an impressive run, great job mate
can't say how much I've been enjoying these binge worthy vids, keep up the good work Lathrix
kingdoms and castles is one of those games that is full of pure charm. Idk why

The only thing that was disappointing was not getting a title for 10,000 citizens. love the playthrough though, I love this kinda content!
I for one welcome our Lathrixian overlords
Comment for the comment lords,

You must do 1000 years survival mod with 3 very high skill kingdoms , just do everything hard, it’s enjoyable 🔥🔥
Love the videos Lathrix I watched you since you were first playing terratech and since you started from the depths hope you are doing great!
You could try using stone stopper walls in your wood walls that will stop fire spreading out of control across the walls
Now you should do one more run, back with infinite resources, and see how wild you can make your kingdom.
Absolutely love your long form content!
