- There's a little bit more to Splatoon's creepy high jinks than I originally thought.
In this video, we explore the mysterious giggling statues in Museum D'Alfonsino (and how it has a very odd relation to another Nintendo game), the ghostly face in Inkblot Art Academy, and we discuss the return of the screams in the boss rooms of Splatoon 1.

There was a cool theory about these statues that they laugh because they represent one of the Inkling girls that fought in the war, and now, she giggles because now she can see all the Inklings having fun in the fest with no danger now even if that meant giving up her life in the war

Or two young inklings who unfortunately died on an incident in the museum long time ago.
It involves water too so my guess is that long time ago when the museum was in it's early days after opening there were two inkling toddlers who were playing tag together that night and one tripped over something, bumping into her sister or friend and falling to the water near the statues killing the instantly.
Fast forward to today and the owner decided to remodel the museum, changing the layout of the statues and many other stuff to make space for the spinning platforms. Rumors started spreading about the statues being haunted, and at last when adventurous squids went alone to recon the stage in Splatfest they heard those creepy laughs that once belonged to two playful souls who sadly passed away in the most horrific and painful way imaginable (at least for them)
In Splatoon 2’s octo expansion, while the blender is putting itself together, you can hear screams of ‘do not go in’ and voices shouting ‘nooooooooo!’ I think that these are the screams of the 10007 other test subjects before agent 8 who also fell for the trap and got blended into the ink

in an art book it was revealed that the domes the octarians live in, and the domes in the octo expansion, are ancient tech built by humans.
Humanity built these domes in effort to escape the rising water levels. What brought forth humanity's end within the domes are unknown.
So I believe the sounds you hear on the boss levels might be ghosts, ghosts of an extinct race. The sounds of their society and livelihoods crumbling echoing throughout the centuries.

after playing through the octo expansion, I have a disturbing theory as to what those sounds are.
One of the noises mixed in with those sounds its the sound of a train.
The screaming is from the test subjects who finished the tests and got in the blender.

In the stage MC.Princess Diaries, the giant human statue's eye follows you.
If you're on bravo and stand on certain platform, the eye will be all the way closed.
It'll be halfway if you're in the middle of the stage, etc!

This may be a stretch but I think there’s some Nintendo-multiverse across each franchise. There’s far more evidence that it exists but idk. Maybe it’s just a fun Easter egg.

With the octo expansion, maybe those noises in the boss rooms make a bit of sense, due to the previously blended octolings, or octolings dying in the tests. Remember, there were thousands of octolings who didnt survive before 8.

I found something intresting. In the 2nd boss room of Splatoon 2 when you hear the noises it’s all scary and stuff. But when you die and respawn, it goes quiet and silence fills he room.
I believe the Octolings heard you and in fear kept quiet as they parish from loosing power.

@@AbdulMajid-xy1xb Yes and no. While there are others before her/him who did die, we do get canon lore that only 'the best' were blended, which most likely means that the Sanitizied Octolings we fight might be those previous test subjects.
That being said, since Sanitized Octolings show no signs of life, they are as good as dead.

To be honest, hearing the happy laughs of a spirit isn't too creepy, so I don't think I'll add this to my overly long list of f***ed up things in Splatoon. They may of died, but they certainly still seem to be happy and peaceful in their afterlife, which is a good thing.

I think you're right about Nintendo reusing various sounds for different games, the sound played when Mario (in Odyssey) goes above water to breathe is pretty much the same as when you refill enough ink for a sub weapon in Splatoon 2

The laughing statues must’ve been found out by whoever runs that place. They’ve been replaced as of the stage’s return in 3
I'm pretty positive I've heard those laughing sound effects somewhere before Koloktos, though. For instance, the high-pitched laugh made by the standing statue sounds like a Boo's laugh from Super Mario 64, and I think the Skull Kid from Twilight Princess makes a giggle similar to the sitting statue's.

(This is my theory about the boss room screams.)
As you know now, after you wait for a while in the boss rooms you can hear screams. And in both games, you fight in an arena.
But, if you look closely in the final boss fight in solar on two, (the platform before the boss fight) if you look left you can see their tentacle faces and eyes. The screams are their screams. Their screams in terror because their strongest protecters have fallen.

I stick with them evacuating- especially as you can also hear sirens and bells similar to ones you may hear at a rail crossing.

One time I was playing Splatoon 2 and i went to the expansion and then.... When I was playing Girl Power these two Octarians had the SAME laugh as this... I turned it up and it was! I was scared as I made a theory
My theory is..
What if the Octarians are there... Making those laughs... Who knows...
Maybe they are calling out for help and they creep you out so you get interested and find out what happens.

SOME INKLING ONCE TOLD ME-
Before you finish that scentence,
It's kinda scary for Nintendo to put in these creepy sounds. After almost 3 years of my time on both Splatoon and Splatoon 2, I have NEVER heard of anything about the laughing statues or the sounds in the boss levels until I watched this video. I'm suprised that I didn't even realize it! Nobody even mentioned it in Miiverse, (probably because I barely go on it) and I've never seen a video about the creepy sounds. Nintendo puts a lot of creepy stuff in their games, and I don't know if they do it on purpose to scare the hell outta players, or.. that one person who just sneaks in and adds in those scary things. But this is by far the creepiest. I bet Nintendo is hiding something.

Yeah if anyone wants to know examples of creepy things in Nintendo I have taken up my own time I could have played splatfest on splatoon 2
1. Hell valley sky trees in Mario galaxy 1 I believe
2. Ghost in super Mario 3D land at the end of 4-4 I think and you have to walk into a corner and you will soon see a ghost that looks very odd
3. Toilet hand in majoras mask and skyward sword, both of these are funny but unsettling mainly in skyward sword because after giving the paper to the toilet hand (or Colin’s letter), she goes into Collins HOUSE and is now in love with Collin and can be seen rubbing Collins back as he sleeps
4. Y’all probably already knew about this one because it’s a dead meme, it’s the Nintendo switch parental controls, wait what where’s the Pokémon stuff like ghost girl and all that crap, well it’s the Pokémon stuff, creepy pokedex and ghost girl, although they’re both different I feel like they’re connected in A way.
5. Luigi’s hanging shadow in the Luigi’s mansion GameCube launch title, at some point in the game Luigi’s the power goes out and Luigi answers a phone, and then a thunder strikes and you can see the room in all of its glory but then you look at Luigi’s shadow and it looks like Luigi has... hung himself, hell we have proof Luigi’s mansion was gonna be scarier than it was, it would have a depressed Luigi game over scene, and some other spooky stuff (check out tetrabitgamings videos on these 2 topics for a more clear explanation)

Theory: the octolings “screaming” in the boss rooms refer to the octo expansion where the octolings are being blended in the deep sea metro above, where the fake octarians were, and screaming. then pearl, cap cuttlefish and marina came during the same time agent 8 somehow came to existence, however agent 8 was only to keep the cycle going of being killed and turned to the green slime for the telephone ai plan of destroying inkopolis but the plan was destroyed and the cycle ended. Agents 3 and 4 were only relevant for also saving inkopolis by the great zap fish returning. Now we have to find out how 8 came to reality
Well, we hear from Cuttlefish that 8 and 3 were battling in Octo Canyon. This can lead us to believe that 8 is most likely an octoling in training, due to the different gear and younger appearance. As for the glasses all Octolings wear, they were probably destroyed in the fall after they were liberated by the Calamari Inkantation, hence the memory loss and hearing the song while dreaming.
I remember hearing this once, my brother got super scared and started to cry and I just started screaming "begone Satan"

What were they trying to do/accomplish?
Like with the boss room sounds in the first game, certain developers on the team can slip things under the radar. It's not so much Nintendo themselves allowing these things to get in, but rather the lead designers of the game failing to catch what the rest of their team is putting in. I think sometimes developers just like to sneak things in because they know it gets us talking.

Huh? I didn't add any dramatic sounds anywhere in the video. The only other sounds happening alongside the sculptures are the low hums of the rotating platforms.

5:38 Some of you will maybe find this theory stupid, but if the octorians don't have energy anymore (because you killed the bosses and took the energy fish(don't remember the name)) the sky platforms can't stay in sky, because of no power. So it's probably the sound of some cities falling from the sky, with hundred of octarians dying in pain.

God, this whole Mystery surrounding Splatoon is genuinely so good, it's a Children's Game where you can clearly tell somethings wrong behind the scenes. It's so well done if this was all on purpose. Really hope they continue doing this in Splatoon 3.
The sounds in the boss fights could be the train in octo expansion as octo canyon and that train are both based underground

The sounds, in my theory, are that of the Deepsea Metro. There are a lot of sounds you can hear that could relate to the Expansion. The drilling sounds are similar to the blender.

okay so in splatoon the sounds are heard with “screams” and another loud noise,
and it sounds like trains. what has trains in splatoon 2? octo expansion in the deep sea metro. my theory is that it’s the octolings screaming from the deep sea metro.
think about it they’re going through 80 “life threatening” stages and a bomb on their back isn’t going to help either. but who knows what it really is.
My theory is that the boss room screams are actually the octolings from the deepsea metro suffering and dying. I know that's dark, but think about it. Agent 8 was the first one to actually make it out of the metro, so all of the other octos must have died. And you know how in addition to the screams, there is metal screeching? That's the train tracks. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's my theory.
Well, my theory is that the Plaza in Splatoon 1 started *physically* falling apart, which is why the final boss fight in Splatoon 2 is theorized to be the plaza, and the tower you see in the distance in Splatoon 2's Inkopolis Square? Mearly an *homage* to the *literal* downfall of Inkopolis Plaza, kinda how America made the Freedom Tower as an homage to the Twin Towers being destroyed. The *real* tower in Inkopolis Plaza collapsed in a freak accident and killed two little girls, who then haunted the statues mentioned in the vid, and a couple of other people. *THIS LAST PART IS'NT REALLY PART OF MY THEORY, I'M JUST SPECULATING AT THIS POINT FOR FUN. PLUS IT DOES MAKE SENSE IN A TECHINCAL WAY* . And some of the spirits haunted the Octarians and helped Agent 4 with his/her task by weakening the bosses. They weren't able to weaken every boss like they were able to before since the Octarians created new Spirit resistant technology for the bosses. They we're only able to weaken the second boss since the boss wanted to have a traditional fight with Agent 4 without any of the new modern tech. This is why the spirits can be heard in the second boss fight, and why the second boss fight is so easy. Seriously... my average for beating that boss is 43 seconds.

You have to remember, Splatoon takes place 10,000 years in the future on Earth. Our Earth. So there really isn't any room for supernatural occurrences like that.
Nexus I'm thinking that inkling only die when there isn't a spawn zone around, and there isn't one in the plaza. Plus, it wasn' ink that killed them. They got crushed.

Maybe the inklings found this before the great war. Also I noticed a somewhat close resemblance between the octo expansion final boss and koloktos.
I really want to hear those sounds at the museum in Splatoon 3 since it’s a confirmed stage in it. I love that stage in the first game.

Here's my explanation on the statues laughing/giggling:
With most games, There's a type of sound effect used in the game for immersive purposes, Or ambient sound effects. The reason why the statues are laughing is because whatever triggers the sound effects are in the statues. The reason why they don't laugh when you are right next to them is because you are too close to the trigger, So if it did trigger when you are right next to it, It would sound rather out of place.
As for the laugh itself, It sounds like it would be coming from an Inkling Girl, Given that it's a rather feminine laugh. During Splatfests, The Inklings are having the time of their lives, And we could be listening into one that's expressing that.
As for the triggers, One statue is on the far right, And one is on the far left of the map, Making it the perfect spot to put these ambient sound effect triggers. Just my thought about it, As the dead Inkling Girl spirit one makes not too much sense to me.
This is kind of like that easter egg in MW2 in that cemetary map if you go prone next to the tallest tombstone in the yard you can hear someone laughing and talking

thats actually common in Cod games, in cod5WAW the multiplayer asylum map, it have a creppy piano song in an inaccesible room (you might still find some videos about it but its onle on xbox 360/ps3/pc), something that i remember perfectly is that the wii version of that game have something extremely different, it has no piano in the multiplayer map, however, the campaing mision of the asylum, had something disturbing in some of the doors, when walking to a door that also i inaccesible, you could hear like a baby lullaby song and it wont stop, if you continue the mision almost to the end and return to that part, you´ll hear that the music suddenly stop and then someone laughts like crazy for 2 seconds, and thats only on the wii version, i tried on the others and nothing, i want to check that again, maybe i missed something, its really creepy

What adds to this is that parts of the noises sound like a train...
The boss room screams are still present in the octo expansion boss 2 room by the same method.
All they want is to be real and play Splatfest like the Inklings they were modeled as. They only wanted to feel excited.
