i still find it super bizarre there's a time limit at all, there's gotta be a technical reason to it or something because why would they increase the time to an hour instead of just...removing the time limit?
I can theorize that it's a Game mechanic thing with stages requiring the time limit entity to function properly for multiplayer technical reasons. There's probably code within the player to have it stop and be invincible when there's the timer ends but since there would be none, the player would forever freeze. So in contrast it's easier to just set it to an hour then to change a whole load of code for players to work without a time limit. (This theory is based off my experience with TF2 Hammer, i know it's different engines but mechanics may have similar interactions) Second Theory, Recon uses nintendos servers so a time limit is set to save on bandwith to prevent idle on maps that can hold 8 active players.

And there's 24, one for each map. Then doing it 10 times for a silver badge, and 50 times gives a gold version of the badge. 1200 hours for the full set will put it about in line for how long they expect everyone to play tableturf or get the gold salmon run king badges.
I'm sure the reason time still there so the game would not have to load up the map for too long and it would maybe depleting the energy/battery or save up some space for games performance from loading one things up for too long, would also one way to boot people from afk in recon anywwy

recon battles multiplayer are an hour long. me and my 2 friends, at about midnight, stayed up for a WHOLE HOUR in a recon match doing absolutely nothing. one of them dced 20 minutes in and i felt so bad. and after, we got nothing for our hour of pain
