Great piece of wood and good demo. You're a very dangerous lady. You have generated all sorts of possibilities: A drop winged bowl so the bowl sits on its wings? The curve of the wings from the side view being a uniform curve - almost semi circular? Combining drop wing with 3 cornered bowl? (Don't think that's possible but I might 'play'!) And then . . . and I hope you'll forgive me . . . the grain is so beautiful, nature's work is so good, that perhaps this calls for the simplest of designs. I hadn't thought of that before - complexity and simplicity in combo. If the wood is boring make the design more complex either by design, finish (paint etc), or texturing or any combo thereof. So well done you, not just for what you have done but for what you have inspired.
I believe you have a saying in the states... You knocked that one out of the park!! Doesn't it feel good when a plan comes together. Stay safe and well😁👍👍
The bowl turned out beautiful !! Just found your videos on youtube!! Nothing better than seeing a great wood turner from Ohio.Lol..From the muddy shores of Lake Erie we say keep up the good work. "Sandusky"
@@TanyaBecherWoodturning hey...well, I ended up with a 3 legged bowl as I had a huge crack that was hidden, but yeah, not too bad for my first one ever. I basically copied your design/shape. So thanks again. Tomorrow I'm trying out a triangular bowl with wings. Fingers crossed.
An outstanding piece of wood, worked so well!! Really hold an excellent finish!! Though, seem pretty risky/dangerous, working the outer edges! An old acquaintance showed up many years ago, with a super black eye, cheek and forehead from a lathe flipping the cutting tool, into his face! Guess he was lucky, the handle struck, rather than the cutting edge!
Thank you so much 😊 That is awful....I have had my knuckles hit before. My lathe is bolted to the shop floor. If I turn it up with a piece that is alittle off balance it will barely vibrate. Stay safe and take care 🙂
Redwood has such beautiful colours and I love the almost abstract patterns that you find in a burl. Doing a winged bowl takes a lot of patience and a steady hand. Beautifully done 😁👍
Thank you 😊 It is such a beautiful wood. I'm always amazed when I get a piece of wood with so much character like this. It definitely takes patience, steady hand to turn a winged bowl. Thank you so much for watching 😊
Very cool winged bowl. I really enjoyed the shape and the stunning beauty of wood grain once you put a finish on that bowl. You hit a home run there Tanya! Kickin butt😁
A stunningly beautiful piece of redwood. You crafted it in a similarly beautiful shape. I would be really proud of that! You've given me good ideas how I could make a similar shaped bowl. Those spinning wings look dangerous.
That bowl is a spectacular piece Miss Tanya. I'm a relatively new sub and I'm genuinely appreciative of the your skills and confidence. And, I want you to know that my appreciation is also for the time and effort you put in producing your videos. Lots of folks feel the same way, but I don't see that in the comments section very often. I'm a 70 year old guy in a wheel chair and have chronic insomnia, and when I can't sleep I watch your videos. They are very relaxing and after 1 or 2 videos I usually can hit the rack and sleep like a baby. Now THAT is really appreciated! And I love your marvelous voice. I can get wordy so before I put YOU to sleep, I'll say adios from Texas...
Thank you so much, Theo! I feel truly blessed to be able to help you. It is so nice to hear such kind things. Thank you so much for watching my video's 🥰 Take care! God bless, Tanya
That bowls beautiful. Those redwood burls are amazing and the acks wood paste is awesome stuff I love it and it really brings out the grain in it. The polishing paste is my favorite part of all of it you can really see a big difference once you put that on
Very nice looking winged bowl. candy dish maybe? Your tools always look sharp, do you sharpen them often? Do you have special techniques that you use to sharpen them?
Thank you so much 😊 I am not sure what the person who bought it is using it for🤔 I like them sharp. I will sharpen before and during the turn several times. I use a tormak system to sharpen all my gouges and a belt sander for the rest of them. Thank you for watching 😃

Gary, I have wanted to do one like that but just haven't found that piece of wood that would be perfect for it. I have seen some really beautiful ones. Take care, Tanya 😊
I have never seen burl red wood before. It’s beautiful. It looks like it turns and finishes nicely. Nice job, lady!!!! Just be careful turning winged bowls since they can be pretty unforgiving on the fingers if one happens to catch hold of one or more of your digits. Not a good idea to sand by hand on the bottom side of the bowl while piece is spinning.
Thank you so much J Armstrong 😊 I hand sanded 95% with the lathe off. The rest was to smooth out where I hand sanded. It was spinning the hole time putting on the finish😬 I assure you I was very cautious while the lathe was on. I learned my lesson when I did my offset bowl.....ouch 🤦♀️ Take care!
Stunning piece of wood, and the bowl came out great. If you haven't already, or know of her, check out Cindy Drozda (I don't think there would be many people in the turning world that haven't), she does similar pieces, but she's next level stuff. Thanks for sharing.
This just might be one of your best! Jim
Thank you so much Jim! 😊

Thanks, I'm going to try a winged cherry crotch bowl tomorrow and it was great seeing how you did yours. I hope mine turns out half as nice!

Thank you so much Tom and Anne 😊
Nicely done I have tried several times to turn this bowl and always seem to nock off a corner off so they are made round not a total waste
Thank you 😊 It can be very challenging to turn these but totally worth it.

Beautiful piece of wood. I like the rim on the top, rather than the smooth transition. It really defines it.

Ive done a downcurved wing bowl that sat on the wings. Its not easy getting good proportions on a small piece of wood.
