The Root of all Evil !!

- This rootball had been dumped in a layby not far from our local tip by some dirty fly tipper - UK meaning ( a person who deliberately dumps rubbish in an unauthorized place )
I thought it would be interesting to turn, so I cleaned up their mess and took it home , it wasn't too bad to turn but the sanding took twice as long as the turning. I was really pleased with how it turned out and glad I kept it natural and didn't add any resin, which is always tempting with something like this.. I finished it with Danish oil as usual..

So happy you kept the natural beauty. Wonderful piece!

One man's trash is another man's treasure ❤❤❤❤
The transformative unmasking you performed, Andy, to reveal the stunning, eye-catching, and utterly captivating piece of art that had been cleverly disguised as a common root ball is magic of the highest order. 👍
Thanks 👍
You never cease to amaze me. I see a huge root ball, you see a beautiful bowl ready to come out of it. Those cracks and spaces in it will make it ideal for holding fruit, because it'll allow fresh air to get around the fruit so it'll take longer to go soggy!
Stunning piece, as ever. Everything you do is something I would be proud to give house room to (and I don't do ornaments).
Thank you!
You are brave and immensely talented. I love watching your work.
Thankyou

Thank you for the support
What a great tactile sculpural piece love it , you have great vision .
I could see flowers in this with the flowers coming out of the top and sides. Excellent work!!
Thanks so much
Exquisite shape! Love the little peninsula in the opening! Terrifying whappity whap! And when you caliper measured the wall, I realized you could accidentally go through and Ouch Whappity! ❤
Thank you!
Gotta say, this is one of the coolest I’ve seen you do in a long while.
Those free-form pieces where they break through on the sides are just gorgeous!
That’s very striking, would be lovely with a candle inside.
Great centre piece,great job 🎉❤
Stunning piece, Andy! Crazy beautiful wood! 😮
Fantastic work!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very nice piece! Lovely!
From refuse to treasure, beautiful!
Beautiful turning Andy.
Interesting piece....ooh crazy idea, fix this up with fish safe seal (and something clear for the holes) and this would make an amazing fish bowl tank 😅
Keep up the beautiful work mate ❤
I did not expect that! That turned out really pretty! ❤❤❤
you should show the Andy Phillip medallion being added too :)
Beautiful peace sir as always.
what a lovely bowl! ❤
Beautiful and unique bowl.❤
Beautiful bowl like always.
Thank you!
Such an EPIC piece! 😍 🤟🤗
Beautiful 👍🏻
Has an old skull look to it 😬
I know it’s wood, but a small candle would look really cool in a dark room 😃
Love it , thanks !
Great job !
Just beautiful! ❤
Stunning, Absolutely Stunning Andy. I still freak out laughing when you turn on the machine and it gets the 'death wobbles". Love your work!!!
Thanks 👍
Just shows that the most awkward looking piece of wood often contains some of the most interesting patina. For one terrible moment I thought you were going to stain the natural edges black which would have marred the piece completely, sometimes shades of green or aqua as a stain complements the colour nature has already given to the weathered surface a piece has. I think you interpreted what nature had to offer really well in this piece. 👍I must admit when I build up unfinished wood furniture kits, Danish oil is my go to finish, yes it whiffs for a while but it still allows the wood to breath; if the finish starts starts to tire it's easily rejuvenated.
Nice work......trick stuff turning air....great job!❤
I love your "language"! In America, we would have probably used some expletives that would have to be blacked out as not to offend, hahahahaha! We get those dirty fly tippers at our recycle bins. They love to bring in things that aren't allowed. Nice work on the rootball!
I sure don't have the artistic eye you have. You see bowl, vase, goblet. I see firewood and kindling. 🔥 😅
😂
Cracking stuff Andy, a lovely creation
Many thanks
This is a magnificent piece, I love it❤❤❤❤
Thank you
A fantastic transformation! I Love That Bowl!! You always have the best videos! I loved the sideviews while you were creating this masterpiece! A wonderful video and a gorgeous work of art! Thank you Andy!!
Thank you

Gosh that's truly lovely from what would ordinarily have been probably a piece of firewood in my part of the World. I'm now constantly looking at a pieces & in the brief moment, wow that grain & then it's soon destroyed. Sometimes i've a huge wrench fighting with myself to not put a piece aside because one day i'll get someone to turn it... (which i know a couple minutes later won't ever happen)...
I have an idea for ya. Next time you have a resin project, you could add lighting to the inside. They make these led filaments now that are super flexible. Maybe carve a small groove somewhere out of sight and stick lights in there. Some lighting from inside on those resin projects would look cool, in my opinion.
Sometimes i get really stoned before i watch wood turning TH-cam and it makes me so anxious i have to stop and pick something else. This one almost got me.
Beautiful piece, would totally use it as a yarn bowl
Thanks
That's absolutely gorgeous ❤❤❤😊
Thank you!

Nice piece. Keep up good work in 2024.
I appreciate the sideview angle, watching the thingy cut into the inside. It's also gorgeous, Andy.
Thanks so much
I wasnt sure about this one at first but you created a real piece of art! I love all the raw edges and natural features! Soo pretty.
Thanks
Hey Andy Phillip, love your videos. You should consider recording and uploading them in 4K ultra HD.
Really nice, Andy. It's good that you didn't use resin. All in all it's great for a piece of trash wood.
Bill
Beautiful piece
I’m glad you didn’t go down the fill it with resin route. The bowl is so much more interesting this way.
Wild character in that wood. Turned out very remarkable. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Tricky start!
Love the very natural endresult.
Beautiful piece, another example of you creating a work of art from a root ball of unknown origin.great video as always, just continue doing what you do best and carry on.😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Wow! I'm not sure how I was expecting it to work out, but that's beautiful!
Thanks 👍
Wow what a character piece hast been hidden. I would put a little LED candle in it. Would definitely be interesting to see the shades of it
Fantastic piece from what (to me as someone who’s never done anything woodwork related) looked like nothing that should be near a lathe! Loved the end result
Thank you
Хороша!!!! Мне очень нравятся такие изделия! Сам люблю такие делать!
Who would have thought this chunk of wood could be such a beautiful bowl!?
Andy
We can only imagine what your plan is from an overhead view 👍 your creativity astounds me even after following you for ages 🥰 absolutely love your work 🥰🌻

Браво Мастер!!! Великолепный получился шедевр, мои поздравления!!! Большой привет из Сибири 🤝👍👍👍👍👍
Do you turn wood ?
What kinds of wood do you get in Siberia?
@@LeslieGallivan-mp5qi Деревообработкой не занимаюсь, заготавливают сосну, берёзу, осину, кедр, лиственницу
Thanks 👍
That was Great job، partner.❤️👍
Hi Andy! That's a great bowl 👍. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🇦🇹.
Thanks 👍
Found art. It turned out to look like some type of ancient blessed relic but at about the 3:45 mark it looked like a long dead Orc's skull.
This look like Holly to me!
Wow!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Thank you.
Yikes! Amazing
One of my favorite things to watch is how horrible the lathe wobbles from the starting wood being not balanced, then ever so slightly, you see the lathe settle down as the piece takes shape
That would have been the perfect piece for some cool resin work.
I cant imagine how difficult it must be to keep your hands steady as the lathe wobbles and your tools are tripping over the uneven surface of the piece
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
Thanks
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning Thank you very mutch... have a nice Start of the week.... see you….
Beautiful!!! Will you be heading to British Hardwoods open day tomorrow? (Sat 3rd) I'll be keeping an eye out for those hands! 😂😂😂
Thanks.. I might do !!
I have an idea and I'm not sure if you've done it before, but what if you found a nice wood, put it through a wood chipper, and then combined the chips with resin and made a bowl out of that.
With some of these, I'd love to see how they'd look if you used just clear resin, no dyes or glitter or anything.
