    I love shrimp. I remember years back when I first saw them, sometime in the 70's maybe? They just seemed I don't know, kind of personable.
    I really admire your passion for them Mark, you really care about them and all aspects of their lives. Your videos are well done, well presented and entertaining/educational. Thanks for your work!

    Hiya Mark. i am going to suggest only the one type of javaFern. The one that is taller and thin leaved. The second one placed just does not seem to flow.
    Thinking a hedgewall of tall java ferns would be ideal to fence in the black gravel.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

      IMO tap water IF it falls into a range of being over a 6 gh and a 2 kh, reason is its much easier to do big water changes, remeber and use a dechlorinator.

    love how you come up with simple but effective ways of tank stuff, mark can I ask I'm picking up red sea max 130d that's 130litre 34 gallon will this size be ok, what do you think will this thank work ok for a planted shrimp tank, I'm going to keep red tia, ruby's, super crs , maybe 5 spotted pinto, that's my plan
    size and the flow ?? the flow will be more than air sponge filter,
    but you can angle the flow in the tank, what do you think on this tank

    Mark, I was wondering, could I keep cherry shrimp in a tank without a filter if I do daily 20% water changes using water from an established shrimp tank? Also they'd be fed in a glass tray so the food they don't eat can easily be removed so decomposing food won't deteriorate water quality.

PS i olso have 60 fish in a 180 liter tank and never checked a thing either and no problems to so I wonder if its realy needed for the basic shrimp and most fish

      You have good practices no doubt my friend and you probably have great water that works for you ...that is where we are all different because we all have different water conditions so what works for you might not work for the next guy if you know what I mean.
      And yes if you use tap water it can change out of the blue ..this is why you must use a dechlorinater like Prime everytime you make water .

    This shrimp tank is setup without 3-4 weeks of cycling, unlike in the other video for CRS tank setup for breeding(45 mins long video). Why is it so? Also since you have not used Amazonia sand, will you be adding external ferts in this tank for plant growth? Thanks

    2) does the filter have to be under the gravel?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to have a small 2 gallon tank and it was ok for up to 20/30 cherry shrimp, more than this I the shrimp stopped growing and no it doesnt have to be an undergravel filter a sponge filter works as do small powerhead filters and hang on back filters.

    I see no end of commercial aquarists promoting the use of air powered filters in various forms in their noisy fish rooms without ANY consideration that most of us have our 1 or 2 aquariums in our living spaces. I would NEVER recommend the use of air pumps for the average person unless noise is not an issue. ALL air pumps due to their use of diaphragms give horrible residual vibration noise. This is never noted by TH-camrs.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure, I switched over to all powerheads a long time ago because my big airpump failed twice and it was hell of a noisey.

    • @zaink7037
      @zaink7037 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree there. I have a tetra airpump which has been running for about 8 years and about 2 years ago the top and bottom cover detached over the years of vibration. To be honest I could do without it as there are times where it just makes loud noises from the vibration.

    • @AquaPeet
      @AquaPeet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MissKitty Eheim makes pretty noiseless airpumps! They even have a rubber moulding and you cannot hear them once inside a cabinet.
      I even hung up mine on the rubber eye so I can leave open my cabinet to see my temp controller.
      All I hear is the airstone bubbling inside the aquarium! :)

    • @NATxbear23
      @NATxbear23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put my pump on a hand towel and use a control valve to limit the airflow so the bubbles aren’t too loud.
