      @@LilPondDragon you need a good sized population (50 to 100+) before adding even a peaceful betta. They'll eat the babies and leave the adults alone, but they still might go on a rampage someday. The s. repens probably melted away because of the substrate. I would recommend using root tabs, but capping the substrate off with sand might be a good idea as gravels might not always keep root tabs under the substrate.

And it started off as basic. Buuuut as time progresses you get more and more stuff. Now I have a CO2 system and last night (while trying to rationalize my choices) was doing differential equations to find when is the ideal time for water changes. usually there's still a lot of those even if you don't see it much in the tank. Once you do see it, it's just way too much and makes things look less aesthetic imo. I'll likely never get rid of all the diatoms, and there's no way to ever rid a tank of algae or biofilm. Clearing it from the glass and places you can see doesn't mean removing all, not even close! xD

    ;-; I had a red cherry shrimp tank once
    I also had crystal black shrimp
    They did really good for a few months and then suddenly they all died. The only thing I can think that did it was the fertilizer I started using for the plants. It was supposed to be shrimp safe but idk. Maybe one day I will try again because they are really the neatest little things. My favorite tank I ever had. They are so fun to watch and they used to sit on my hand while I did water changes ;-;

    Has anyone else had luck growing salvinia with flow comparable to that aquaclear in the first 3 weeks? I had some red root floaters that melted out 3 days after being moved from low flow to aquaclear flow and am looking for a sturdier floater.

    • @yoon-moon1189
      @yoon-moon1189 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s definitely sturdier but it won’t grow as well as you’d probably like. If the flows really high I doubt you can achieve it without sectioning areas off with tubing or something similar.

    • @kleomenid
      @kleomenid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yoon-moon1189 Thank you! it's good to know it can survive. I don't need the craziest of growth, just cover for some fish and reduced lighting for algae control.

    • @yoon-moon1189
      @yoon-moon1189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kleomenid have you considered hornwort or something similar instead? They can still float and provide shelter but can survive much higher flow.

    3:21 I just did a 3 gallon shrimp tank, and while filling it up 50% of the plants floated. It drives me NUTS. I also hate it when a plant has barely any roots, and when I try to plant it, it will just float and the only way to keep it down is put a little bit of the substrate on the leaves, and then just looks terrible!
