I was a young boy when i started watching Johnny. Im 64 and still can't get enough of him . Class and a comedic genius. He always tried to make his guest look good. He wouldn't believe this world now
I'm with you I am 65 and I was really young when I sat on the top of the stairs to watch him on TV my parents never caught me peaking 😂 TH-cam has a ton of his old shows Rodney Dangerfield was hilarious google when Sinatra and Don ricklese were the guests and Rickles made fun of Sinatra hanging with so called mafia figurs 😂😂😂
@@meijer78 Him and Dean always would make me lose it. Dean was always laughing a little too much and Bob could deadpan drop kick it further into the fracas. A true comedy gem and so glad he was here this long.
I feel so lucky that I was able to appreciate and watch Bob Newhart all throughout my youth! Even as a young teenager in the 70's, I knew talent when I saw it and while others were out at parties, I would stay home so I could watch the Bob Newhart show. I would even listen to his early 33's (albums) that my dad had and would laugh hysterically with my mom in the kitchen. He was a pro through and through and I would have loved to have been a part of his inner circle, hanging out with the Rickles family and even Carson. True legend!
There are more than a few people would argue the “class” designation in the case of Johnny Carson. Anyone that would call Don Rickles their best friend, well that guy is on the “to be sainted” list!!
Bob's reaction to Johnny Carson leaving hearken's back to the final episode of The Bob Newhart show where his character Dr. Hartley was leaving his psychology practice to be a teacher of psychology. His most annoying patient Elliot Carlin (played by Jack Riley) had the same reaction to Bob's leaving. The only difference was Bob Newhart wouldn't be wearing a dress.🤣🤣🤣
I learned tonight that Bob’s wife, Ginnie, who he mentioned in this video passed away in 2023. He married her in 1963 and she was always smiling in the numerous photos of her I saw online. I’ve always been a fan of Bob’s work from his stand up acts and records through to his work as Professor Proton. He’s clearly a wonderful person and I’m happy for him that he had a wife he loved for over 60 years. That’s rare these days, unfortunately. RIP, Ginnie!
A beautiful message. I like to think, somehow, Mr. Newhart has found the opportunity (algorithm, cited by a friend, etc.), to read your genuine tribute.
RIP Bob. Your deadpan straight face in absurd situations was brillantly perfect. You'd be the guy in the strange or crazy sitution thinking what the audience was thinking which was really funny. Tell Johnny hi for us.
On this day after Bob Newhart's death, icame to this video to enjoy seeing him again. This is the best episode of the Tonight Show, which i didn't always like. Bob Newhart raised the level of comedy everywhere he went. May he rest in Peace.
64 here. I feel exactly the same. In grammar school I would crawl out of bed and hide under the dining room table to watch. My mom would pretend for a bit I wasn’t there before telling me to get back to bed. Real people. No daily gun violence and mass shootings. I really miss those days.
When late night TV had class and pizzazz and its host was king. Oh, brothers, I sorely miss those days. On a positive note at least we have this great channel, thank you. 🙏🏼 An old man subscriber - Edit: Ah, forgot to Cheers 🍻 for Bob, love him, a true survivor and a fine loving man.
Don't go Johnny don't go! I used to watch The Tonight Show ever since I was a teenager. Carson was the best, no comparison to the idiots that host talk shows these days.
Finally, after all these years. Of all the celebrity guest reactions to Carson retiring back in 1992, Bob Newhart has my second all-time favorite with that memorable moment at 1:35. FTR: Bette Midler is of course #1 on that list.
Excellent examples as to how subtle intelligence and comradeship can be expressed affectionately, even when tearing the other apart. The result? Laughter, not disdain.
I want a nickle for every time JC says: "Someone told me..." Loved Johnny since I was 12 yrs old babysitting my two young brothers when my parents went out. Here I was feeling like a queen sitting in their bed, when bros were asleep, in my moms negligee and satin robe - at 11 yrs old, in 1964.
Without a doubt The Gold Standard in late night talk show hosting and comedy presentation. Johnny will never ever be duplicated, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy kimmel couldn't even come within 1% of Johnny! A true proesional in all aspects.
The Hungarian on the Ted Mack amateur hour--one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard! Still LMAO! Much gratitude to those gentlemen for bringing laughter to my world.

Same for me! Johnny was AMAZING and Bob is a true legend!!! Two of the greatest comedians ever to share their talent. Bob could deliver a funny line without ever opening his mouth! His expressions said it all!!! 😂
My Mom told me that when my Grandfather was younger, he had quite a resemblance to Bob Newhart and would be stopped by people thinking he was him. When I looked at pics. of Grandpa from the 50s and 60s, yeah, definitely some resemblance, not so much in later years.
CBS put Bob Newhart's new series on a Friday night, which had become a bad night for almost any show to survive by the '90s. ABC was the only network pulling decent Friday night numbers at that time.

Johnny Carson, so funny without profanity, little jokes about politicians but he was never nasty or hateful. Every night time host, Jimmy Kimmel, could take some lessons!!
Carson made it look so effortless, yet we know that's not the case. Today's latenite is a barren wasteland of "comedians" trying to too hard & flailing over each other. Hard to believe Johnny has been off the air longer than he was on. 1962-92 1992-2024

51 years old and remember watching in the 80's and now to see prior shows is really a treat. Johnny is just great and so very much missed.
Johnny Carson was and always shall be the G.O.A.T. of late night entertainment!! ❤
Two giants of comedy. It was worth staying up late when Carson did the Tonight Show.
Bob, Johnny and Don Rickles were all very close friends. Glad that Bob is still with us.
Today was a sad day. What a delivery so plain great. Rest easy Bob.

Ginnie is responsible for giving Bob the idea for the iconic Newhart finale.
@@michaelj.r457 I didn’t know that. I found the episode online and watched it tonight. Thanks for the information.

One of the greatest finalies of all time . Shows the great chemistry between Bob and Suzanne plesheet and I love making fun of dallas,s dream season

Shoes and Socks too, which goes to show the lengths they went to for something the audience wouldn't even see...

2 great gifted men.
