I met Jzck Lemmon when I was a Bartender at Chadneys Restaurant in Burbank in 1981 across from NBC Studios. A lot of Stars would come in and have dinner and a drink or two before crossing the street to appear with Johnny. He selected an Irish Coffee and a couple bought the drink for him on a very busy Friday evening and he walked through the crowd all the way over to thank them before leaving in his Rolls Royce with a license plate that said LEMMON. He was an amazing man and I was thrilled to meet him and make him his drink. We had a very nice conversation. He told me he was a Bartender himself before he got his big break in Hollywood. Love you Jack Lemmon.

It's notable that thousands of clips from "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" are ten thousand times better than just about anything on any talk shows during the last twenty-five years. No one has done it better than Johnny Carson.

I have the exact same memories....was all cleaned up for the following day's work...comfortable and in front of the TV
to see Johnny with a couple minutes to spare at 11:28 pm (sorry for detail as I am a Geometric Model Theorist)...I rarely could stay awake for the whole show...Especially liked Carnac the Magnificent...that "Mystic from the East",.... Sear, Sage, Soothsayer....I liked when the prediction of what was written in the envelope did not quite gel well for Carnac, where the audience let off all sorts of audible dissatisfaction, motivating Carnac to compose a good luck message for every audience member....such as: "May a crazed Auto Mechanic hotwire your Sister".
I was Pop's Solo Caregiver for 2.5 yrs. before He died...Pops loved to watch Johnny too.....was Ma's Solo Caregiver for 8 yrs. before She died....was so glad to get those extra years w/them & to Serve (filial piety)...spend as much time w/ your Dad as possible so there are no regrets and of course Serve, as your Parents took care of you. GIVE HIM MORE THAN HE GAVE YOU, THOUGH MOST OF THE TIME I DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE AS THEY SACRIFICED SO MUCH FOR ME.....Caregiving-- hardest & most rewarding work of my life...no more than 3 hours of sleep per night for nearly 9 years.....& I was grateful too for the extra time.....both of their end times were horrific...my brain suppressed virtually all of it...Ma flatlined 11 times through only half of the last day...Pops aged 30 years in only 1 day....stick w/your Dad through thick and thin...he'll be proud of you & you can make things easier for him......wish I could have served both for 20 years...didn't work out that way....😔
Today, I'm a 59 year old Orphan....A new & different angle than from before....

Carson is so responsive, it's amazing. He can go slow, and then snap back with some wit. He could actually hold his own against top actors and comedians. He really was the master of this medium, and so broad. Plus he can say no toilet jokes, and then let a guest go ahead. Carson knew how not to stop or direct people from doing something funny.

One of the greatest comedy teams to ever exit...Matthau and Lemmon...God rest their souls...
I'd love to see their kids Chris Lemmon and Charlie Matthau, do a movie together. I hear they are good friends like their Dad's were and I just have this thing about heredity and the 🍎 apple not falling too far from the tree.

Love this ... the 80's were great for a lot of reasons but one of them was the cool fact that culture had a great crossover in that it is close enough to us, where the movies and technology still resonates, images are in color but at the same time society and entertainment also was still filled with the big stars from the Golden age of the 30, 40, and 50s and the WW2 generation was barely retiring. It just connects a century of America in a way. And Carson basically showcases that America.

The mention of Matthau in a neck collar (neck brace) after his accident on the slide - anyone remember the "Fortune Cookie" ? In that movie ("Whiplash Willie" in the UK) it was Lemmon in the neck collar, etc - Matthau , as a shyster lawyer, trying to get a big pay-out for Lemmon's supposed injuries - Matthau got an Oscar - very funny movie - Lemmon was (naturally) great in it, too.

One of the greatest moments of humility from the Hollywood world I’ve seen was Ving Rhames winning a golden globe in the same category that Jack Lemmon was nominated, and Rhames brought Jack Lemmon on stage and gave him the award. Both men are class acts.

@@l.w.i7478 and with all do respect to the man, ving Rhames wasn’t exactly a high profile leading man or not who Hollywood would put in that role where he’s going to get another opportunity to be nominated let alone win that award again, so he likely knew that was the one and only opportunity to accept that award and without any hesitation he graciously elected to pass it to Jack Lemmon
