Wow..this is the first “how to make digital planner” video that I actually finished watching. Awesome quick glance yet comprehensive tutorial! Right to the point!
So I’ve been searching for a detailed video showing this! I appreciate you making it detailed and clear instructions! In that video I used an iPad Air. In more recent videos I used an iPad Pro 12.9”. The 12.9 Pro is definitely heavier, but I usually prop it up against my legs when using it. It’s not particularly comfortable to just hold. It just depends on what you’ll be using it for.
I love this tutorial! However I don’t have document setup on my iPad? It is a few years old would you say I need a new one or is it normal to have it on the app?

I have numerous paper planners and I have every digital productivity tool in the world, what would inspire one to try to build their own version of this, is part of it, the fulfillment of the creative output?or, is there a legitimate lift?
It can definitely be time-consuming, but I enjoy the process of building it. That's why many prefer to buy an already-created digital planner. Too much work to create it oneself. Thanks for watching!

Hello:) thank you a lot for this video, really helpful! I'm just trying to find a way to make my digital planner able to be filled digitally. I know there is pdf escape but the letter funds available are not enough..Do you have any suggestions?:/ thank you a lot in advance🙏
If you're asking how to get other fonts on your iPad, there is a way. I don't have a video on it, so I would suggest doing a search on TH-cam on how to add fonts to an iPad. Thank you for watching my videos!
That's more than enough. My planner is around 20 Mb, but the amount of storage necessary depends on how many stickers you add. In any case, 256 Gb is plenty.
32:54 question, can you create the first master with the cover, pages, rings and tabs and then create the links on here and then duplicate the page, to create the other master slides, will the links duplicate on the tabs etc? 😊
I'm having trouble creating a new master slide. Can you help? I have selected all objects and copied them, went to edit slide layout, but I do not have a paste option. It only says "select objects" and "comment".
I had someone else have this same issue. I would have to see what you're doing to be able to see what is going wrong. Can you email me at plannersbychristine@gmail.com? I'd really like to get to the bottom of this as it seems you're not the only one running into this.
I love the tutorial video but for some reason my keynote doesn’t have anything on the section of the three dots on the right top corner. I can’t change the size of the page. I don’t have that option and is very frustrating. I don’t even have the plus sign!
Because they are undated, you create a link to every box on the monthly spread. 35 boxes on each monthly spread times 12 months equals 420. Not all daily spreads will be used, but that’s how you make it possible for every date box on the monthly spread to have a daily spread linked to it.
You were honestly the only one who helped me created my very own planner! Thank you so much! I am new to digital and just bought myself an iPad 12.9 last model for digital so I am very new. Your video helped so much and very informative. Could you help me how I can move things with my iPad pencil 2nd generation? I had to use my finger to move thing and its very hard because the boxes were so small. Whenever I tried to move things with my iPad pencil it’ll just scribble and write :( Help please . Thanks you again!!
I'm glad you found it helpful! As far as the pencil, when you're in Keynote, select the three dots in the top right corner. Tap on "Apple Pencil". Make sure "Select and Scroll" is toggled on. Please let me know if that works or if you need further help.
@@PlannersbyChristine omg! You are a life saver my chubby finger would not let me click correctly. But now I can finally select and drag with the pencil. Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
I have enjoyed your videos very much but I've not been able to find what I need. Do you know if it is possible to bring an existing presentation into keynote. I have googled but I don't seem to find an answer.
Tell me more about the existing presentation. What program is it in now? You can export the images from the presentation and then import them into a new Keynote presentation where you would then do all the linking. I demonstrate how to do this in this video: th-cam.com/video/a71K9ltM4Io/w-d-xo.html
@@PlannersbyChristine thank you for you're reply. I have no idea what program it was written in. I bought it off Etsy a few years ago and was not ready for it at that time. It has just what I need now and no more. The only things I'd like to do is change the headings on the side and top and change the color of the labels from white. They are very hard to use. And as I bought it years ago, I need to change the calendar dates. That's all. I've watched many, MANY videos on digital planner creation and have not found the answer. If I make a sticker to put over the existing lettering and calendars, will that affect the hyperlinks? I've sort of come to the conclusion that I am going to have to start from scratch and create it over again. It's a very small planner, just 20 pages.
Putting a sticker over the existing lettering and calendars won't affect the links. However, since the dates are in the wrong place on the calendars, it makes more sense to start from scratch. Especially with how small it is.
Great tutorial! I did all the hyperlinks and tested it in the slide show view. However, when I exported it as a pdf the links aren't working. I uploaded the pdf on goodnotes app and same issue, none of the links are working. Any idea how to resolve this? Thanks in advance!
I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial. It's hard to say why the links didn't work. This is a silly question, but when you're in GoodNotes, did you toggle off the icon in the top right corner so that you can't write in it and such? If that is toggled on, you have to long press on a link to get the option to use the link. Let me know if you're still having issues.
If you want to have a daily spread tied to each box in the monthly spreads, then yes, you'll need to duplicate the daily spread 420 times (if it's an undated planner), and then create a link from each date box to a unique daily spread. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thank you for such a great tutorial. I am using an iPad Air 4 and used 1640 x 2360 to build a portrait planner. When I import into Goodnotes 5 I have a space on each side of the planner. I would like it to fill the screen. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I have a screenshot of the margins.
You're welcome! I don't know why you would have space on each side. Those are the dimensions I used when I did a portrait planner and I didn't have spaces. One thing to double check, when you're in Keynote, go to Document in the top right corner and make sure that under Slide Size, where it says Custom, that the size is 1640 x 2360 rather than 2360 x 1640. Please let me know if that was the issue.
@@PlannersbyChristine The slide size was correct. I finally got it fixed by measuring the distance from the top of the device to the bottom of the tool bar (in Goodnotes). On my iPad Air that distance was 1.25 inches. Then I multiplied 1.25 X 264 (the ppi) and got 307. So I subtracted that from the height number. Using 2053 for height and 1640 for width my portrait planner fills the page completely when the Goodnotes toolbar is open. For a landscape planner I tested the theory with 1333 height and 2360 width and it also worked. If anyone else is having issues with certain iPads they can look at the apple site and find the resolution and the ppi for their specific device.
31:02 I understand how to make the hyperlinks, but how do I get each calendar month to have the links since you did not do the hyperlinks on the master slide? Does this mean I have to go through the 11 other months and do the hyperlinks on each slide?
You're welcome! There are 60 weekly slides because it is an undated planner and there needs to be a link to a unique week on all 5 weeks of the monthly spread. Does that make sense?
I created my undated planner with 5 weeks, but if you don’t need a particular day then you just don’t use it. Even so, you need to have it available in case it’s needed. That’s one of the differences with undated planners vs dated planners.
I did a Google search. The dimensions for a 12.9 iPad Pro are 2732 x 2048. However, I’ve recently discovered that it’s better to chose a 4:3 dimension as that will allow the pens and highlighters you use in GoodNotes to be thicker.
At the beginning of the video it shows hitting the three dots and then clicking on document setup… I don’t get what you get when I hit the three dots. So I can’t find the document setup to resize … Did they change keynotes?
Are you able to tell me why I can’t use my pencil to move objects around? I’ve tried settings under Apple Pencil but can’t figure it out. I don’t want to always use my finger.
When you're in Keynote, tap on the three dots in the top right corner. Toward the bottom it says "Apple Pencil". Toggle on "Select and Scroll". I hope that helps!
Hi, when I try to add the small squares for the monthly numbers my squares don’t quite look the same as yours my iPad doesn’t allow me to place them where I want them exactly on top of the line, every single of them is off because of the iPads “yellow lines” that keep every measurement the same, any tips?
I’m also wondering if you’re needing to be in the master slide (Slide Layout screen) to be able to edit the slide. Let me know if you have further questions.
Hello I'm a keynote novice. I'm trying to follow this tutorial step by step but I'm missing the "document setup". Can you please tell me how to make it appear?
If you've updated to iOS16, they've changed Keynote. Now, to choose a custom size, you tap the name of the presentation in the top left corner, choose Presentation Options, then Presentation Setup. Then you'll be on the same screen I show where you can choose "Slide Size" (it's at the bottom). If that doesn't get you where you need to go, let me know.
For some reason I don’t have the option for “document setup” … when I click the 3 dots the options are way different and the box is not long at all. I’m loosing my mind trying to find why
I can’t get ride of the thing in 0:49 with my apple pencil, my tools are showing (when i try to do it, i’m drawing) it only work with my finger how can i do it like you Thank you!
It sounds like your Apple Pencil is not connected. Attach your pencil to your iPad, and once it shows that it's charging (which verifies it's connected via Bluetooth), try again. Please let me know if that works or not.
hello how can i change the color of these pages at once For example, I changed the color of a page and can I make the color of all other pages the same?
Are you talking about the background color? If so, you can change all of the slides at once by going into the master slide and changing it there. Do you know how to do that?
It's been a couple of years since I made that video, so I don't remember exactly where I got the background, but you can find backgrounds like it on places like Unsplash or deposit photos. Do a search for "textured background" on those sites to find images that might work for you.
So I am following along step by step and when u get to the part after tabs and making the master slide it does not give me the option to paste . What do I do now
Other people have run in to this issue and it sounds like you need to make sure and not include the background when you're copying. Sidenote: I'm creating an updated tutorial that will be out in a few days, so keep an eye out for that.
I'm sorry you're having trouble! On the page where it's not working, when you look at that page (or slide) when you're in Keynote, make sure there's a link at the spot you're expecting. If there isn't, then I'm guessing that slide isn't based on the Master Slide.
Great question! It's a rather involved process, so it's not a something I can answer right here. However, in the near future I will make a tutorial to show you what to do. Thank you for watching my channel!
Apple changed it in ios16. This video shows where it is now. HOW TO CHANGE THE SCREEN SIZE IN KEYNOTE IN iOS16 ON AN iPAD th-cam.com/video/1-lfHA-PYBE/w-d-xo.html
If you’re trying to change the screen size, you might want to watch this short tutorial. Apple changed the way you change the screen size. th-cam.com/video/1-lfHA-PYBE/w-d-xo.html
Do you mean for the month labels? It's the text box, and once you click off of it, the box is no longer visible. If you mean something else, please let me know.
That depends on if you want daily spreads or just monthly and weekly spreads. If it's an undated planner, and if you want a daily spread for each day of the year, then it's a little trickier because you want to make sure there's a daily spread linked to every box in each monthly spread. You'll end up not using all of them, but that's okay. So, in this tutorial, there are 492 slides. (12 monthly slides, 60 weekly slides, 420 daily slides).
My guess is that on your Master Slide (Edit Slide Layout), you put January on the monthly spread. On the Master you want to leave the month name blank and instead name the months in the presentation. Does that make sense?
😩😩😩 I’ve spent 5 days trying to follow along and I just can’t figure it out!!! 😩😩😩 the options on my iPad keynote aren’t the same even though I’ve updated it and I’m about to give up 😩😩😩
Oh no! Are you stuck on changing the screen size? If so, watch this short video that shows how it is since Apple changed it. If it's something else, let me know what you're having trouble with.
I’m getting stuck. The step to create the master slide (8:55) I am able to select, select all, & copy but when you click at the top in the black area and that pops up for you, well nothing happens for me. I’ve tried it a few different times now. I even went back to the start (8:55) and did it a few times. Ugh! I don’t know what else to do. Help please
That's so frustrating! I know at least one other person who ran into this. She said if she deleted the background image first (I think she meant on the slide she was copying from), then she was able to get the Paste option to appear. If this doesn't work for you, please email me with a video of exactly what happens. Then I will be able to help you better. My email is plannersbychristine@gmail.com
I’m determined.. lol. So, I’ve tried everything and eventually I got it. So, how yours was at the top right.. well I went and click everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I’m glad I did, because mine was on the left side middle more near the bottom. If that makes any sense. Ugh! After I found the first edit master layout, I’ve had no other issues. Thankfully. I’m still working on this because I was stuck for a little while. I mean I went and some of the other videos I followed I went through on them as well thinking I might of done something wrong on this project. One was able to do like yours. It’s so weird. Anyways, I’m just rambling now. Haha. I do want to say thank you for your video. I’m trying to make my own and this way I can add my own pages I need. You make it easy to follow alongside. Thank you!
I’m at 22:29 now, adding the times in. After this I’ll go do the lag one your mentioning. If I have any questions- I’ll reach out, if that’s ok. Do you know in Canva, if I make some of my sheets I can add them to this? Correct? Appreciate any help.
@@Abeautylynn Absolutely reach out with questions. Also, I uploaded an updated tutorial that basically combines this tutorial with the one about creating a planner with no lag if you want to check it out. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/a71K9ltM4Io/w-d-xo.html As far as Canva, you can totally use those. Import them as an image in a master slide. Does that make sense?
@@PlannersbyChristine ok. I will try it out. It makes sense what you’re saying but I have to do it to actually understand. Thank you for letting me be able to reach out. I do appreciate it. I wonder if you can help with this- my pen 🖊, it lets me write and everything but I can’t move stuff or use it how you do. I have to use my finger. I can’t drag, it will click and write. It’s frustrating. I know someone mentioned it earlier in the comments, and I believe I followed those steps (I can’t remember it now.) it’s just I can’t do anything you do with yours with mine. How to fix it? Thanks again. I will check out that video. I need to finish this step. :)
Other people have had this issue, and what it seems to be is, you have to exclude the background image and just copy everything else. Give that a try and see if that works. Please let me know how it goes.
I translated this to mean: Can you upload the photos you use here? There's not a way for me to upload my files here, but if you follow the instructions in the tutorial, you should be able to create them yourself :)
lost you. When I click on three dots it looks very different. For one, there is no 'Document Set up'. I have an iPad mini6. I even tried looking in search, No 'slide size' either, not even under help.

It’s 2022 now happy new year but I just realised that you posted that video on my birthday lol I had just turned 15
Happy late birthday! 😉
@@PlannersbyChristine I emailed you but also have an update. I am able to copy and paste onto a masterslide of I delete my background image.
That's great! I'm glad you figured it out! Thank you for telling me the solution. 😊
Thank you. That was a great tutorial. Can you do one to show how to add a cover please?
I'll put that on my list of tutorials. Thank you for watching!
great tutorial. however, my days of the week didn't apply to all of my slides. can you help me with that?
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you give me more details?
I love the tutorial video but for some reason my keynote doesn’t have anything on the section of the three dots on the right top corner. I can’t change the size of the page. I don’t have that option and is very frustrating. I don’t even have the plus sign!
Apple changed where it is. This video shows you where.

What page setup should I do for iPad 10th GEN?
You can Google "iPad 10th gen dimensions" to get the proper dimensions.
Great looking planner rings! 😊
Thanks to you 😊
Thanks 😮🎉😂❤
Hi great video! Just wondering why you need 420 daily pages for an undated planner?
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
@@paxiongy I'm so glad it's working for you now! Yeah, using your finger would be a huge pain in the neck.
Is it possible to change out the style of the background without having to do the whole thing over?
Yes. I’ll do a video on this in a couple of weeks.
1:04 what is the custom size we should use for IPAD PRO M2 11 inch
Looks like it's 834 x 1194
Am I suppose to create a link for all the boxes in all the months? If so, that means I have duplicate more of the planner sheets?
@@lmeriwe Awesome! I'm glad you figured it out!

I understand how to make the hyperlinks, but how do I get each calendar month to have the links since you did not do the hyperlinks on the master slide? Does this mean I have to go through the 11 other months and do the hyperlinks on each slide?
Yes, unfortunately there's not a faster way to do links for daily spreads. If you mean something else, please let me know.
Thank you for the easy follow along! Only question why were there 60 weekly slides? How many slides do you typically do for daily & weekly slides?
You're welcome! There are 60 weekly slides because it is an undated planner and there needs to be a link to a unique week on all 5 weeks of the monthly spread. Does that make sense?
Not to me. How do you click on week 6 when there isn’t one?
I created my undated planner with 5 weeks, but if you don’t need a particular day then you just don’t use it. Even so, you need to have it available in case it’s needed. That’s one of the differences with undated planners vs dated planners.
@@PlannersbyChristine perfect answer to my EXACT question!
Where did you get the size of your iPad airpro? Mini is the new Ipad Pro 12.9?
I did a Google search. The dimensions for a 12.9 iPad Pro are 2732 x 2048. However, I’ve recently discovered that it’s better to chose a 4:3 dimension as that will allow the pens and highlighters you use in GoodNotes to be thicker.
At the beginning of the video it shows hitting the three dots and then clicking on document setup… I don’t get what you get when I hit the three dots. So I can’t find the document setup to resize … Did they change keynotes?
Yes, Apple changed Keynote. This shows where to change the screen size now.
th-cam.com/video/1-lfHA-PYBE/w-d-xo.html
Are you able to tell me why I can’t use my pencil to move objects around? I’ve tried settings under Apple Pencil but can’t figure it out. I don’t want to always use my finger.
When you're in Keynote, tap on the three dots in the top right corner. Toward the bottom it says "Apple Pencil". Toggle on "Select and Scroll". I hope that helps!
Have you every used an e ink tablet?
No, I've only ever used iPads and MacBooks.
Hi, when I try to add the small squares for the monthly numbers my squares don’t quite look the same as yours my iPad doesn’t allow me to place them where I want them exactly on top of the line, every single of them is off because of the iPads “yellow lines” that keep every measurement the same, any tips?
Can you drag the yellow lines off of the slide?
@@PlannersbyChristine I’ll try that thank you so much
Hi Christene, if I select the brush, I don’t get an option of ‘style’🙈 I got a new iPad 9th generation.
What do you have selected on the main part of the screen when you select the brush?
@@PlannersbyChristine Thank you so much! It now all make sense. It's because I've updated to iOS16. I appreciate this really
Great! I’m so glad that solved it! Thank you for watching my tutorials 😊
For some reason I don’t have the option for “document setup” … when I click the 3 dots the options are way different and the box is not long at all. I’m loosing my mind trying to find why

It sounds like your Apple Pencil is not connected. Attach your pencil to your iPad, and once it shows that it's charging (which verifies it's connected via Bluetooth), try again. Please let me know if that works or not.
Can I add this planer to my goodnotes app and still have the links??
Yes. Digital planners are meant to be used in an app like Goodnotes.
@@PlannersbyChristinethx alot!
hello how can i change the color of these pages at once
For example, I changed the color of a page and can I make the color of all other pages the same?
Is there a part that I can easily make without disturbing the shapes on it?
Can you help me
Are you talking about the background color? If so, you can change all of the slides at once by going into the master slide and changing it there. Do you know how to do that?
I don’t know what you mean. Give me more information.
Do you know of another app that might help me create a planner.
There are other apps that people use, like Affinity Designer or Adobe InDesign (I think). But I've only ever used Keynote.
From where i can get the leather like backgroung please?
It's been a couple of years since I made that video, so I don't remember exactly where I got the background, but you can find backgrounds like it on places like Unsplash or deposit photos. Do a search for "textured background" on those sites to find images that might work for you.
So I am following along step by step and when u get to the part after tabs and making the master slide it does not give me the option to paste . What do I do now
Other people have run in to this issue and it sounds like you need to make sure and not include the background when you're copying. Sidenote: I'm creating an updated tutorial that will be out in a few days, so keep an eye out for that.
Can this be then uploaded to good notes ?
Yes. If you export your planner from Keynote as a PDF, that PDF file can then be imported into GoodNotes.
What about the months that have 6 weeks?
It's challenging with an undated planner, but you could make all the months 6 weeks instead. I chose not to, but you certainly could.
What dimensions do I put in for my iPad Pro 12.9?
2732 x 2048. I recently made an updated tutorial. You may want to check it out.

Hi.. the link on master slides not function when pdf opened in good note.. can hep me on this 😢
I'm sorry you're having trouble! On the page where it's not working, when you look at that page (or slide) when you're in Keynote, make sure there's a link at the spot you're expecting. If there isn't, then I'm guessing that slide isn't based on the Master Slide.
Thanks for the tutorial but the links took so long. Btw i am a new subcriber!
Thanks for subscribing!
If we want to sell the planner we just made on Etsy, how to we upload so they can purchase?

you create visible triangles for add link bu it disappear in this minute how did you do that? 32:08
Do you mean for the month labels? It's the text box, and once you click off of it, the box is no longer visible. If you mean something else, please let me know.
@@PlannersbyChristine I mean you add triangles below the weekly box for go to daily planer page when I do the same thing my borders not invisible
how many slides in all woud you need
That depends on if you want daily spreads or just monthly and weekly spreads. If it's an undated planner, and if you want a daily spread for each day of the year, then it's a little trickier because you want to make sure there's a daily spread linked to every box in each monthly spread. You'll end up not using all of them, but that's okay. So, in this tutorial, there are 492 slides. (12 monthly slides, 60 weekly slides, 420 daily slides).
What if I forgot to name all the months? Kinda stuck keeps changing back to January and not each month
My guess is that on your Master Slide (Edit Slide Layout), you put January on the monthly spread. On the Master you want to leave the month name blank and instead name the months in the presentation. Does that make sense?
When I press the 3 dots I don’t get the same options in keynote…?
