      G'day Stephen. It doesn't look like it, but it was a mammoth task. You can imagine my disappointment when I stripped down that compressor motor to find it had no piston rings in it (DOH). I agree with you, this project is done and time to move on. Thanks for watching mate. Cheers, Aaron.

    Can't wait to see it in a Cafe Racer frame with you riding it to work.

      PS: I think I need a bigger engine to do that 😉

    I recently bought an antique Curtis single cylinder compressor that I plan on turning into a gas engine over this winter. Really looking forward to it as I plan on machining the head myself and building it from scratch. Great job by the way thing runs beautifully!

      Hello and thanks for watching. I was very happy with my finished motor. It's not very practical, but I'm so happy that I pulled it off. Not sure if you know, but I have full build series up on my other "Aaron Engineering" channel.

      G'day Rick. Yes it was a massive task mate. Especially having to make the piston rings. Even to get the old flywheel off I had to drill and tap holes so my puller would work. The Chinese Honda donor engine was also a pile of junk. The bloke who sold it to me said it was runner, but I highly doubt that. The valves needed grinding and re-seating, but I didn't do it. Hope you're well over there Rick. Yes, it's shame there is so much distance between us all. If you ever in Australia make sure you look me up. Cheers, Aaron.

    Great bit of work. Ingenious reworking of existing components.
    Questions: After expending so much time and energy building such devices, do non of you characters spend two minutes to bolt these creations down to something substantial?
    Do you like to see them bounce around uncontrollably on the bench top?

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. This is something I do as a hobby outside of my day job. It was purely for "proof of concept" and I never had any intention of using the motor for anything. Additionally, the donor air compressor crankshaft design isn't suitable for power anything. As you can see from the video, when powered by internal combustion it creates huge amounts of vibration. Even when I clamped the engine down to the table.

    • @Hydrogenblonde
      @Hydrogenblonde ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DCT_Aaron_Engineering I think it's really cleaver to put together a bunch of parts that were not together previously and were never intended to go together and make a running engine. Fantastic!
      I guess I was just commenting from a OH&S perspective. Open chains and sprockets, moving flywheels and fingers are a really bad mix.
      Keep the projects coming, it's very inspiring.

    That's some really nice work. I'm currently working on building a Vtwin from two 4 stroke weed eater engines (using overhead cam models to simplify this build as a traditional pushrod Vtwin would add some complexity) and I hope it comes out half as clean as your creation.

      @@Hydrogenblonde unfortunately, or fortunately, I guess it's all about perspective, I got sidetracked building some hotrod minibikes including one I posted a video on my channel of (only video so far) that has a modified Briggs and Stratton Vanguard Vtwin engine. It currently hits about 78 mph and still has excellent acceleration. I've got a few more extensive modifications to make to the bike, front end, brakes, wheels off a Yamaha FZR and a 5 speed transmission to hopefully achieve a 100 mph top speed with a 0 to 60 time below 5 seconds which is ambitious for a 479cc engine that is essentially from a riding lawnmower.

I’m actually a high school shop teacher, so this remote learning is killing me & the students (metaphorically speaking). We should be in the workshop making stuff, instead I’m bashing the poor buggers to death with theory 🤦‍♂️. Hopefully we’re nearly through to the other side. Trust you’re doing well? Cheers 🍻. Aaron
      PS: I have another channel called Aaron Engineering it’s predominantly for manual machining though 👍

    • @tcratius1748
      @tcratius1748 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On dear God man, theory, what the! Bet that has gone down like a lead balloon. A year later and I decided to upgrade to a better 3D printer, and it is good but nowhere near as cool as what I see the wood and metalworking people do, especially on a lathe. I have to stop myself from going, "what was I thinking"-been watching Mark Preslings plane motor build, which is both fascinating and stressful. I'll have to check the other channel out, if you talk metric, then I'm already sold, and manually machine seems to be the best starting point.
      Though I found a good planetary gear maker software in fusion you maybe interested it, which is literally called " planetary gear maker", I bought the 3D printer thinking I could make a gear system for nema 17 and I have a design and was trying to make it out of nylon carbon fibre, yet it is too tricky a material to print, and other things in life just got in the way. As they say, such is life. Anyway, take care and ill see you on your other channel :) Cheers TC

      G'day Ralfy. Thanks for the feedback. To be honest nothing. This was just a little project I did for proof of concept. It kept me out of the house and in the shop so I could escape the misses ha ha ha. Cheers, Aaron.
