  • In this video I provide you guys with a few exhaust clips from my 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this truck, it does come with a 5.7L iForce V8 engine tied to a 6spd auto transmission. The Pro model is outfitted with a glorious dual TRD cat-back exhaust system from factory. I personally love the rumble of this thing... what do you think? Is this the best sounding V8 on the market?
PS: not sure if Mrs. Untamed knows what 40mph is 😆
    1. Cold start
    2. Warm revs to 3-4K rpm
    3. On throttle 0-45mph
    4. 30mph drive by
    5. 40... err 110 mph drive by...
    6. On throttle pass
    Thanks for watching!
    -Stay Untamed...

"Terbos" not only don't sound that good, at least without mods as the turbine blocks exhaust sound and the intake is usually muffled, but they are really good at blowing up. More torque, better midrange and ample passing power are their thrills, they are generally more responsive and fun to drive but only if you lay on it. On the other hand a "terbo" runs hotter and tends to boost more when under load. Such as when pulling 5700lbs not counting any towing. A 3.5 with 450hp has way, WAY over 100hp per liter and a far higher specific output than a 5.7 with 381. Toyota reliability or not physics are not kind to "terbos" and they will never last as long despite the advanced in technology. More headaches, more hassles, more maintenance, no thanks.
The case could be made for the hybrid upper level version because the electric motor could give you some 'boost' lest the turbine itself boost up and maybe delay blowing up of hte motor. Trust me with "terbos' it's a matter of time until you crack a ringland, spin a bearing , lose the actual turbine bearings, melt something, blow a head gasket, leak oil, crack the block, crack the turbo, crack a hose from heat, or break something. Something bad is bound to happen when you increase temperatures and pressures like that. Whomever thought of it for race cars that you can rebuild or replace the motor every race was a genius. Whomever adapted it to road cars with expectations of durability should be dragged out into the street and shot!

@@mikecoglione1308 I’m a Benz tech and haven’t replaced many modern turbos so far. They started with direct injection gas motors around 2014 or 15?
I replaced one for a oil leak and another was burned up cause the oil feed line was restricted from lack of oil changes. Only others I’ve replaced was cause of wastegate linkage issues that you couldn’t get separate of the turbo at the time.
Toyota will probably do a good job

Just got a 2nd hand TRD exhaust for my SR5 and will be installing it soon. I look forward to the sound. I got a 2nd hand TRD intake as well that helps too. Brand new prices really aren't worth the minimal to zero power gains and just "theatrics" but at the end of the day that's what we all want! The TRD intake sounds a little harsh in the 1600-2000rpm but I love the deeper growl, subtle, you can hear it a little. Stock exhaust is wonderfully limousine quiet, luxuriously refined but I didn't like it because above 3000rpm it sounds wimpy and it's not quite like how you would imagine a V8 to be. We all want a Mustang too but honestly they are total junk, one look at the extensive and embarassingly long recall list like electronics, oil lines, engine fire risk and I ran away from even thinking about one! I don't drive my truck that hard but sometimes you want that satisfying V8 sound; an endangered species from what I hear about all this global warming stuff.

Traded every time the wind blew for the last 35+ years. Just decided to keep one and do some other things. Your opinion on what you might chose. Driven both. Love both in how they handle ride and drive. I realize they both are old school compared to the big 3 American trucks and even the new Nissan. But, alot less hassle to work on and less to break. Reliability on the two Toyota's are soild as a rock. Thanks.

Any idea if the 2021 TRD pro is pre-wired for the RCTA and BSM? It feels such a big miss to leave these features out from their most expensive model. I haven't been able to find anything concrete about this. It seems the TRD Pros are based on the limiteds which do have BSM and RCTA. So the question is if the wire harnesses already there in the truck supports it and if just the sensors are required. Can we buy the sensors and sonar and plug them right in to get these features?
The Canadian TRD Pros do have BSM and RCTA. I feel is an inexcusable cheap out from Toyota.
