The thing with Klay and the Mavs is he doesn't need to be prime game 6 Klay on this team. He really just need to shoot the shots he gets, and as stated, he's the 2nd greatest shooter of all time.
Even if he shoots 40-45%, they’re still weak defensively. I dont think a backcourt of Klay and Kyrie (not to mention Luka) is gonna hold up
The Bucks actually did something about the SG position. They got in GTJ who is actually a decent SG and def a defensive upgrade. They also got Delon Wright who is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.

I said it last year that no one is beating that Boston team. People were trolling me and saying Luka and Kyrie would absolutely destroy them and look what happened. The crazy think is that Boston still looked like the best team in the NBA without KP. The only think stopping Boston from repeating at this point are themselves.

They did look unstoppable the whole season. Just like the Tatum over Brown talk was ridiculous and too soon. Saying Tatum is done taking steps is wild too. They started young and just won a ring, not yet at their peaks. I think they both look better next season, especially in the playoffs. Should be a good Eastern Conference finals run and battle for the title in a likely tougher finals.

The thing is, Klay doesn't need to roll back the clock in Dallas offensively. All he has to do is replace THJ and be more consistent than THJ as an outside threat. In the start of the season, THJ was leading for 6th man of the year, third highest scorer on Dallas with like 16ppg. Klay is better, already can average 18ppg while being defended as the number two option. In Dallas he's going to be 3rd or 4th depending on how the pick and roll lobs are going. Even a regressed Klay is a better defender than THJ. The bigger effect Klay might have on Dallas is the defense for the whole 48min. THJ comes off the bench most of the time when Kyrie or Luka sits. Klay is going to take starter position and probably starter minutes with weaker defense than DJJ had.
I know people act like we need prime Klay. We need Klay to be better then THJ that's really it. Klay's defense may not be as good as it once was but its gotta be better then THJs.
Klay is in his head too much these days. Aint no way he plays as big of a part in a chip run as much as Mavs fans claim.

Marshall would be the X factor vs the Celtics, he would snatch the souls of Brown and Tatum and hit open 3s. Lively will be a notch below Wemby and Chet but around the same age. The Mavs sweep maybe Boston gets lucky and gets a game. I think Dallas lets them win one so they can win in 5 at Dallas.

Mavs offseason is not just about Klay. I think Mavs will be fine if he just the same as he was last season, cos they added more shooting and depth to the bench with Spencer, Naji and Grimes.

Tatum just has to keep producing like he has been every season and stay relatively healthy for his career and by the end the resume will speak for itself. Im a Knicks fan so i dont care one way or the other but im pretty sure he'll finish as one of the greatest players ever. Actually the basketball purist in me does care. The Tatum i saw for the first half of last season was easily one of the greatest players ive ever watched in my 20+ years watching nba. He was a monster. I do get the criticism hes still inconsisent, especially in the playoffs but people go overboard on him.

The Knicks are a team explicitly built to stop Boston, other teams can’t say that. Lest people remember this Knicks team EXCLUDING Randle, Bridges, and Robinson beat the living hell out of a fully healthy Celtics squad last season. They do need a good backup C as insurance for Robinson, but they’ll get that come December via trade. Bridges and OG were brought in to stop Brown and Tatum, and there’s enough depth and offense to get by Boston. They’re easily Boston’s biggest threat in the East, way more than Philly and certainly Milwaukee.
I mean we say garbage if we see the Bucks being #19 in the defensive rating, but the Mavs were #18… Klay is not gonna fix that, no serious title contention for them next season.
Celtics were very fortunate last season. Don't remember if it was this channel or another, but Boston had bad percentages for a championship team against the Mavs and still won. I don't think this season will be as easy for them. I can also see the pacers/Knicks not being ready, sixers having injuries or embiid/pg playing awful in the playoffs, and the bucks flaming out. I don't think the Mavs make it back to the finals. But the West is still there. OKC, Minnesota, ja morant and Memphis, warriors trading for butler, Denver recovering, and can't count out the Lakers. Assuming nothing goes wrong for teams, it won't be easy for the Celtics.

Tatum is a good player. His problem is that he obviously keeps trying to prove he is a good player. His problem in the Olympics was he was trying to play hero ball and was benched. Probably also why Team USA didn’t get Brown. They didn’t want to have to deal with their guys trying to show off. They needed team basketball which is what won it for them. Booker, White, and Holiday were the ultimate team players.

And BTW, the best off season in the west is by far the mavs not the thunder. Klay had his worst season, but he still puts number. He was bad because he plays in a role that doesn't fit him any more. But as a 3rd option or as a 6th man, he can do far more than the supportings cast of Luka's last year. And we don't even mention his gravity. Cuz no matter if Klay is on a good or on a bad day, defense must always respect him and his shoot. He can fire up any time, and it can escalate quickly if you let him get on fire.
