The reason why Dallas is gonna be scary this season and for years to come is not just Luka. It's also this guy. Can move and switch like a wing and can bother shots from PG to Cs with ease. He actually outplayed Wemby, Chet, Gobert, and many other Cs on many of their face offs last season. He can guard 3-5 easily and can also hold his own against attacking 1s and 2s. He can also pass and is improving his post moves and 3 point shots. Develop this young man at all cost, turn him into a KG, and dynasty gonna arrive in Dallas very very soon.
My favorite comp I heard was Joakim Noah. If Lively can reach that level of defense, rebounding, and playmaking Noah reached I would be THRILLED as a Mavs fan.
You only need one argument to counter the "easy to be a lob threat with Luka" take, which is "Then why were none of the 7 guys before Lively able to actually be that?"
What made him stood out was he was a sponge. He has the raw talent already of a Tyson Chandler, but he can shoot with the potential to be Kevin Love cavalier's version, partner that with the fact that he wants to learn and just stays in his role, not looking to showboat which rookies had the tendency to do, he is every coaches' and trainers' dream project.
I've been saying it after watching him in the playoffs: Give Lively starters minutes (30-36) and he'll average 18-13-3 assists and 3 blocks per game. He's going to be a monster out there.
True, but I think giving both Lively and Gafford 22-25 minutes at C is better for keeping Gaff involved and Lively healthy. If Lively keeps working on his shot, he could play some PF though.
@MistaWordz I'm looking for Lively to get 30 minutes per game and Gafford to cover the remainder. Kidd has a tall task on his hands: develop Lively into a top 5 center and also be sure he stays healthy for the playoffs.
