I wish Vader had been brave enough to figure out a way to upgrade his suit and cybernetics that would have made him more resistant to force lightning without Palpatine’s help and without the risk of dying. He sorely needed the upgrade. Without it he was doomed to be under Palpatine’s thumb forever. Vader was a shadow of his former self. Yet he was still very powerful. He was powerful enough to survive everything Palpatine threw at him and survive yet not powerful enough to overthrow and replace his master. What a frustrating place to be. A more powerful apprentice would have bold enough to keep on killing the guards and dared Palpatine to do something about it.
Vader didn't upgrade his cybernetics nor his suit because he was afraid that it would rob him of the pain and suffering he needed to maintain his connection to the dark side. His cybernetics were outdated and his suit was uncomfortable to wear which frustrated him to no end, but provided an endless wellspring of pain for him to draw on and fuel his connection to the dark side of the Force, as a Sith Lord, he couldn't afford to lose that.
Vader could kill the guards, he did often. A lot of times Palpatine would have Vader fight the strongest royal guard just as an example for the others. But they would be able to put up a fight, giving Palpatine time to stop his apprentice. They pretty much were a chaperone between Vader and the emperor in case Vader ever decided to "try something,” and of course they could easily protect Palpatine against anyone else.

A great irony that the man who despised being ordered around by others could not tolerate those who wouldn't be ordered around by him. For the very same reasons. Vader was only second to Palpatine, meaning that no Moff, Admiral, General or whoever held power over him. The Royal Guards were themselves bound directly to Palpatine and no one held power over them except their master, similar to the Adeptus Custodes in Warhammer 40K, which directly server the God Emperor of Mankind and can't be commanded by any Chapter Master, Primarch, Inquisitor or Highlord.

Funny how Palpatine didn't need these chumps for his safety at all and were there just to complete tasks and prop up Palpatine's image of a frail old man
I think someone made a comment similar to this once. But, I think the Red Guards would just love to hook up a sound system and play "Every Breath You Take" by the Police just to push Vader's buttons (no pun intended).

I love your videos, I got one question that I was not able to find on your channel : why Palpatine get disfigured when fighting against Mace ? Cheers from Ireland :)
Palpatine used the guards to protect himself against Vader for the same reason he gave him a subpar suit: to make it more difficult for his apprentice to defeat him. The Rule of two says it best: "...one to embody the power, the other to crave it." And if the master must teach, it is not his responsability to give his power away. It is the apprentice's job to seize it when the time comes. Vader would know that.

Great video. Thanks. Maybe he did, and I just either forgot, in a drunken stupor, or missed it, but I would have taken steps to ensure what is called "mutual assured destruction". Yeah. You've put me over a barrel. But if you push it over, you're coming with me. It was the best Vader could hope for.
I once went on a vacation with a guard
Awesome video, love learning about the royal guards. I might be confusing all the lore channels, didnt you already upload this video like 3 or 4 years ago? I could be mistaken
How did you get all that info just from watching the movie?
Incredible
Anything: *exists*
Star Wars youtuber: "Why darth vader hated it"
I really hope they make a Vader or Star Wars: Rebel Spies show on Disney+ and dive into depth about the Empire. That would be badass.
I love your videos, I got one question that I was not able to find on your channel : why Palpatine get disfigured when fighting against Mace ? Cheers from Ireland :)
It was a combination of ‘dropping the mask’ and letting the Dark Side degradation show, and additional damage caused by the reflected Force lightning.
Its ironic that vader was a prisoner yet the deadliest weapon of the empire up until the death star. Vader is such a tragedy.
Plus, many had a degree of force sensitivity, and were off limits to Vader’s bloodlust. That boundary would have been a rub.
Darth Vader couldn't even take a dump in peace because of these royal guards always being around him.
I would hate them too if I couldn't even take a dump without being watched 24/7.
Imagine being a Red Gaurd and having to report Vader won't shut up about his nose itching in his bacta tank.
They're are times when the red guards listen to Vader like on the Second Death Star or when someone attempted to assassinate Palpatine on Coruscant.
It sucks that the movies never showed the guards in action.
It didn’t take much for yoda to knock them out so I think prime Vader could easily take them
That was early in the unit’s existence, and they were always meant to fight in groups anyway. An entire platoon of soldiers could certainly take one out, although there would be some casualties.
I love seeing the most powerful sith at the time walk with a cane, but why?
This was to present the image of an old man who survived the jedi treason, just pr for the empire, he really didn't need it lol.
I think he uses it to make him self look frail or weak when he isn't as in episode 6 we see him walk fine without it
@@qjo5158 nope. That’s a part of it, but even with the force, the dude was 84, and has a normal life expectancy. He wasn’t a weird race who lives 400+ years
@@ericb8241 he was 88 during the time of his death
@@ericb8241 yep actually the sith and jedi can easily use the force to compensate for age, look at ep6 when he clearly doesn't need it when preparing to lightning luke, yoda can twirl around using the most acrobatic form of lightsabre style, the emperor did not want the public to know he was a sith as in the publics eye they were the same as the jedi, he built the empire on public belief the jedi tried to kill him and he narrowly survived, he was already the most popular politician in the senate, as chancellor he became a hero for foiling the attempted rebellion and needed to keep that image, that's why he had vader be the empires monster, so he could remain a hero in most people's eyes, hence the loyalty of so many imperials even after his death.
The amount of training, and patrioticism embedded in the royal guard is crazy. They're skill level is like that of a jedi knight though without the force they're obviously still not a match to a Jedi. They also are almost brainwashed into going to ant means to protect Palpatine and to lose value for their own lives. Surprisingly, even Palpatine respects his guards for what they've gone through Judy to serve him. Literally around 40 of the best Impetial will try out for the Guard in each group and only 2 will actually move on while the rest die throughout the training period.
Love these guys and everything about them. I have 15 different versions of them in action figure and love the comic series about them.
RICK LONG CANBERRA NERDS INC ! LOVED THE ROYAL GUARD ! 😀
Didn't Vader immediately punk 2 of them upon returning after corrupting his Kyber Crystal?
Anikan/vader such a tragic character
"Luke, come with me. I will complete your training, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son." ("And then we can fight for power as Sith for as long as we live. It's gonna make Thanksgiving dinner a living heII, but whatever.")
Why did the Emperor need the royal guard? I mean he survived the Second Death Star. He survived that he could survive most anything.
I might have missed it, but when did Vader command them and they didn't obey?
We need you to make “why Darth Vader hated Palpatine’s iPhone”. Do it!
I wish you had some Palpatine/Sidious merch…
You did this vid 4 years ago lol, this one do be better tho
This is why the Empire fell, he refused to except the fact. That as he grew older, he was going to become a liability to the Empire. If you look at most Dark Side users who were human. Needed to be taken out at roughly 57 for things to continue forward. In a healthy way so that younger stronger Sith would continue forward. Palpatine got too power hungry and it killed the Sith and Empire.
Wonder if any guards were inquisitors?
I know about the Sun guard but that's only Legends rite ?
As palpatine fell, he must have thought: "after all that, picked up and thrown down a fucking chimney! Fuck!"
a random thought maybe, but how does Vader actually poop? taking off the suit would be not only a huge hassle but dangerous aswell, or shower for that matter?
Vader should have rejected the guards by killing the everytime that they entered his castle...everytime. even palps knows a sith is a sith.
I don't undemand why the palatine needs royal guards for his protection
How can you say they are “always”with him ? You hardly see them at all. Where do you come up with this info ?
This is just a case of "fifthers fifthin' fifthers".
This guy is basically Mike Zeroh junior
Vader hated everyone from my understanding except Tarkin he respected him, the question is why did he remain loyal when he never got taught to revive the dead or someone close to death? I guess maybe because he killed everything he loved and no interest anymore
Why was Palpatine a left alone with Luke and Vader on the Death Star in Return of the Jedi?
I love your videos 😌 Ty for the content.
We’re the guards regular humans like the stormtroopers or force users in a certain point of view
Corrupted jedi temple guards...... that's not true, I just pulled that out of thin air. More likely they were either highly trained top of the top storm troopers or possibly genetically enhanced soldiers given Palpatines history with cloning and genetic research.
Great video
Sooo, what happened to the Royal Reds after the Battle of Endor?
Top 5 best dressed teams/ group in Star Wars no cap 🧢
They ate the last donut and refused to buy more.
If they were keeping tabs on him how was he able to train star killer in secret
Just a thought but wouldn't the emperor expect Vader to kill off a few guards now and then even just out of frustration, so in that respect Palpatine would factor in the fact that Vader would take out X amount of guards sometimes?
Counted on it. The ones he culled were weak and the punishment for weakness was death.
There is no peace for the wicked.
After playing Jedi Destiny in Lego Star Wars II, I pretty much hate them as well.
do they royal guard have an darkside powers are they linked to the force or rather highly skilled warriors used as a defense against such powers? sort of like a race of beings skilled as jedi or sith but immune to the force?
Grandmaster Yoda literally took out 2 Royal Guards in a nanosecond
Why didn't Vader simply allow Luke to kill the Emperor in ROTJ?
Because deep down Vader loves his son, despite his confliction. He knew Luke wouldn’t have stood a chance against Palpatine.
Because he didnt want luke to follow the same path he went down. Otherwise he wouldnt have done anything
All the more reason to let him die. Then Vader wouldn't have been electrocuted and subsequently died from it.
He hated them because he thought their red costumes were silly. He referred to them as the tampon twins behind their backs
Clearly Palps was afraid of Vader. Giving him that trash suit to hold him back and constantly have imperial guards watching him.
Sidious MKULTRA'd and PROJECT MONARCHED those guards. He replaced their superegos with his own ego.
This video doesn't feel accurate. Vader is seen without the Royal Guard, constantly. They are rarely seen in the movies, he's gone to planets by himself etc. Not only that but in a previous video you stated that Vader didn't kill Palpatine because he "needed him".
Vader was not second in command in terms of line to emperor that would actually be grand moff Tarkin Vader would much rather serve sidious and ultimately himself
@@postsniper-7532 vader was the Supreme commander of the military 2nd only to Palpatine. Tarkin had favor with the emperor but was not 2nd in line. Palpatine was a sith 1st and foremost. He wouldn't overlook vader in favor of a soldier. Since he lost faith in vader, he ensured that the empire lived on after him but really expected to rule for eternity.
@@qb6570 you forget palpatines true gift and endgame politics Vader was in no way involved in politics lol in the event of palpatines death he in no way shape or form would have been in charge of the galaxy he quite literally didn’t even have a name anymore😂 just a sith title no one was looking to the cybernetic enforcer for direction
Vader should’ve just killed the guards at any opportunity away from Palpatine. “I killed more of your guards. What’re you going to do about it?”
Darth Vader hated the Red Royal Guard because they were there only to observe and provide assistance to Darth Vader at the command of Emperor Palpatine / Darth Sidious.
My guess is it's because they stole his spinning trick
The Crimson Guard.
I don't know maybe that was the only way they could keep them on the dark side is to have the card around him controlling his mind for their master it's an aspect that will never know cuz it seems they ran out of ideas they never had a real imagination to give up so fast that I've roughly serious that good so well
They were hard to beat when I was 6 and I'd rent the ROTJ SNES game.....then again so was the Aladdin game
