Palpatine became too overconfident in the end. He should have been terrified of Luke. Anakin's Achilles heel was always his attachments to his close friends and family. If Anakin could be persuaded to become Darth Vader because of Padme, then Darth Vader could be persuaded to become Anakin again because of Luke. Palpatine should've known.

That’s because they didn’t know that attachment goes both ways which is some thing and I’m not saying personally Trea did this but Reven air of Jedi messed up on they were the ones who messed up on the whole attachment thing they didn’t want to believe it went both ways.

You’re right. Luke is essentially the reason anakin turned to the dark side in the first place and his family dying, as far as he knew, was why he stayed palpatines apprentice for so long. If he found out about Luke early on he probably would’ve upgraded his suit and taken better care of himself and would’ve never become Vader

one more thing, Vader witnessed the vicious act of Sidious once in ROTS while he pushed him to kill Dooku. In ROTJ Sidious pushed Luke to kill him just like that.

    • @WonderfulHayden

@@applepie1911e Luke's mere existence was proof that Palpatine had lied to Vader all those years ago about the latter killing Padme on Mustafar. There definitely wasn't a baby on that platform near the ship. It was further evidence of the extent to which Palpatine had manipulated him into servitude. Vader had hated Palpatine for years leading up to the discovery of Luke, but the hatred intensified even more from that point on (hence the ruling together as father and son sentiment to Luke in ESB). Vader was just biding his time and waiting for the right moment to toss Palpatine overboard.

No offense, but his fear of Luke is all over the dialogue of the films. "There is a GREAT DISTURBANCE in the Force. We have a new enemy...the young rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt that this is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker. HE could DESTROY US. The son of Skywalker MUST NOT become a Jedi!!" Also, in the canon story "Disturbance" - Palpatine is actually legitimately freaked out when he discovers Luke in the force. Mother Talzin is an interesting pick though. She doesn't get talked about enough.

So there were basically AT LEAST 4 people that Palpatine truly feared and considered to be a genuine threat. He was also getting his ass whooped by Yoda and didn't really defeat him. Stuff like that really makes me question him being OP and one of the most powerful beings of all time. Always thought this was nothing but one gigantic retcon (never mind all the legendary characters from the past who would probably obliterate him or that Vader randomly picked him up and threw him like some ragdoll lol)

To be honest, Yoda was the biggest threat to Palpatine. Not just in fighting skills and ways of the force but especially the purity and wisdom of Yoda. We have to remember how old in years Yoda was during these times and yes he lost his grip during his battle with Palpatine and he was still humble enough to admit he had failed. However Yoda who could take on Dooku at the same time as using the force to save Obi Wan and Annakin shows he was the most powerful of all the Jedi. His wisdom, humility and love for life and righteousness was the biggest threat to the all evil Emperor and beyond. The all wise Yoda won through in the end.

@@nicholasdorsett8467 I would not say Yoda lost his duel to Dooku. Even though it was a draw where neither combatant scored a touch, Yoda clearly had the upper hand and that is part of the reason Dooku left, although Dooku was already trying to leave. But, it is noted that in their second canon duel in a canon comic on Tatooine, Yoda did lose the duel after Dooku disarmed him, and blasted him with Force Lightning. But, Yoda absolutely did disarm Sidious and in the final confrontation of Force powers, Yoda was the more powerful of the two, even if it cost him his footing. Yoda lost that duel with Sidious because the outcome was determined well before it happened. All Sidious had to do to win was not die.

Palpatine became too overconfident in the end, and even ignored warning from friends and enemies alike. Truth is, even Master Yoda warned him about Anakin being a dangerous person. Think back to their duel.
Palpatine to Yoda: "You will not stop me. Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us."
Yoda: "Faith in your apprentice, misplaced maybe, as is your faith in the dark side of the force."
Palpatine clearly forgot that warning, and he turned his back on Anakin to try and kill Luke. That when Sidious met his end. Having used Ankin's love for Padme, and his crippling fear of losing her to turn the young Jedi to the dark side, Sidious should have known that the roots of that fear were still inside Vader, and that if unleashed, could not be controlled by anyone. How could Palpatine really have been ignorant enough to believe he could kill Luke in front of Anakin and not trigger that instinctual fear to overtake Vader?

He was the natural successor, a Sith Lord, heir apparent to the mantle of Sith Emperor/Master. Haven't watched the video yet I'm just going to guess.
    1. Qui gon jinn: I think this because he was one of if not the only Jedi who would stray away from the rules making himself a free thinker which in theory could disrupt his plans.
    2. Mother talzen: this comes from the idea she could eclipse him in power and she'd be hard to control.
I think an honorable mention could be Jocasta Nu because she again in theory could train Jedi in the history where this comes into play imo is the bases of the rule of two. Bane studied the ancient sith and based the current siths ideology on the history of the Sith. If her character was developed better she could do that as well, and if I'm not wrong she hid away knowledge that Luke later found which taught of ancient Jedi

I'm definitely sure Sidious was scared of Yoda and Mace Windu. I just have that feeling he must have been because he waited until near order 66 to face them. When Windu was betrayed by Anakin that allowed Sidious to finally kill a Jedi very dangerous if somehow left alive. Yoda had to scare him until he learned he died is why he didn't want Vader to Look for Jedi high in the order. Palpatine's fear was so great he let them live to be Yoda and in a way, Yoda helped defeat Sidious by helping to Train Luke. In many ways, Yoda inspired Luke. I however think Palpatine wasn't scared of Kenobi enough because he is very key to his end. Qui Gon was Kenobi's master and I personally see a lot of Qui Gon in Kenobi.

I've always thought that the reason Palpatine was always on guard with Vader so much was because he was always scared that Vader would figure out that everything that had happened to him was because of Palpatine, and that he knew that Vader was stronger than he was but he had to control him. The dreams he had of Padme and his family dying, his dreams of his mother were all exploited and planted by Palpatine, full well knowing that Padme was going to die if Anakin turned to the dark side. Which is why Palpatine always is trying to control Vader as much as possible, and continues to and reinforces him to believe that Anakin is dead and it's only Vader until Luke comes and makes Vader realize he is Anakin after all.

Sith philosophy is all about fear, it's about ambition gaining strength to increase your power, sure, but the more power you gain the more fear you gain, fear that you will lose your power, fear that someone else is ambitious. Inability to let go and the fear of death is why there are so many sith ghosts hanging around, they're still just freaking terrified.
Palpatine kept Vader loyal with fear, terrifying him into believing he could never stand a chance against Palpatine because of his own weakness. Vader then tried to cover up his perceived weakness by instilling fear in others, he made people think he was the Terminator. He was out there, he could not be bargained with, he could be reasoned with, he doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear and he will not stop until you're dead.
It gets pretty obvious with how as soon as Vader realizes Luke is a decent enough fighter and they could team up to take out the emperor, he tries to bait Luke into joining him. Vader's sith ambition was not gone, it was just suppressed by his fear of Palpatine.

I think it’s important to point out that for a brief moment Palpatine feared Maul and for great reason. In very short time Maul created a huge criminal organization known as the shadow collective, controlling hundreds of planets in the outer rim as he took over many already dominantly established criminal bands. Since Maul had been quickly constructing his own empire very irrelevant to the events of the Clone Wars, they were untouchable by the Republic laws and not an immediate threat to the separatists, meaning for the first and only time in the trilogy, he had to take matters into his own hands.

Palpatine (posing as Snoke) said this to Kylo in a Rise of Kylo Ren comic:
Snoke - “He has earned my respect, and my fear”
    Kylo - “He is weak”
Snoke - “He is not weak, he is misguided. If I had your uncle on my side instead of you, the galaxy would’ve been mine a long time ago”
Even in the films it’s seemingly made clear. He refers to Luke as an enemy and identifies his power in the originals. And in the sequels, it seems pretty coincidental that he waits for Luke to die in order to carry out his plan.

Force Users Palpatine feared: Ashoka (because of her connection to Vader and the force, not to mention he not being a Jedi any more), Vader (obvious reasons), Yoda (only after their fight began), Luke (high level of force, connection to Vader), his own clones and his Son (who he hunted down and killed not realizing his son had produced an daughter named Rey). Qui-gon was not feared by palps, merely a concern if he remained in Anakins life. Obi-wan allowed Anakin too much freedom where Qui-gon would have reigned him in, we see this behavior in how he was treating young Obi wan in The Phantom Menance. I mean he literally was telling Obi-Wan to be mindful of the future but not at the cost of the present, a lesson Anakin should have been taught but obviously wasnt.

Bro, if Jar-Jar revealed evil machinations and suddenly started talking normal instead of with his offensive fake Caribbean / Wet Indies patois, used a deep Christopher Lee speaking voice and started saying and doing evil, Sith-like, things… 🤣😂🤣 (I can’t laugh though, because I love Empire Strikes Back so much) 🥺😢

I would say that Grand Admiral Thrawn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were the greatest threats and potential fears of Emperor Palpatine's. Sheev brought Thrawn into the fold, because he knew being enemies with Thrawn and the Chiss would be incredibly dangerous to the Empire. And with Obi-Wan, Kenobi's continual, surprising survival and ability to defeat Vader/Anakin threw Palpatine's expectations off. Obi-Wan then trained Luke perfectly, from the beginning, as Qui-Gon intended to behave with Anakin.
Obi-Wan screwed up SO much of Palpatine's plans, and Thrawn is far more intelligent than Sheev himself.
I would even go so far as to say that - late in Palpatine's existence - that Snoke, Kylo Ren, and Rey were three people that Palpatine had to fear, because Snoke was doing just fine without Palpatine's presence, almost getting too powerful, before Kylo Ren decided to destroy the Supreme Leader.

Sidious also mildly feared Dooku. Dooku may not have been on the same level of Force power, but he was close enough to merit concern, had a unique suite of skills, and anyone that is such an incredible swordsman always has a punchers chance. Add to that Sidious' unsettled feelings after Dooku pulled a clean draw with Yoda, and then later even manages to out duel Yoda in a canon duel on Tatooine (Yoda Comic) when he disarmed and blasted Master Yoda, knocking him to the ground, that Sidious knew full well that Dooku was at least capable of holding his own for a while 1-on-1. That is why Sidious always took care to keep Dark Side secrets from him, and prevented Dooku from fully developing his acolytes like Ventress. Had Ventress continued to grow in power, she absolutely could have been the difference in a 2-on-1.

Is that Yoda comic actually canon, I find it hard to believe Yoda was disarmed by dooku

    • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069
      @crownprincesebastianjohano7069 ปีที่แล้ว

@@harkness9247 Yes it is. I would say it is not that hard to believe as we look over the totality of the duels Dooku has had with Yoda and Mace. As a Jedi Dooku stalemated Yoda in sparring (canon comic). Though "Dark Rendezvous" is not a canon novel, its story was developed with Lucas' input and approval, and on top of being considered the best Clone Wars era novel, it clearly showed that the difference between Dooku and Yoda in dueling was very, very small. Dooku was forced to retreat in that novel thanks to Anakin and Obi-Wan's approach, but did manage to wound Yoda and Yoda had the most difficult time pushing him back. The canon duel which Dooku bested Yoda happens after Dark Rendezvous and one can see that through three duels, Dooku improved each time. In the final duel it was clear that his gained experience was decisive as he finally discerned the weakness to Yoda's dueling style: Yoda needs to jump around a lot to compensate for his lack of reach and once in the air, he can be vulnerable to Force attack, not unlike how Dooku defeated Yaddle. Coupled with the canon duel with Mace that was clearly a stalemate favoring Dooku, I think it is clear that Dooku is demonstrably the better swordsman than Sidious and is so good with the saber that at any given time, he can beat either Yoda or Sidious despite their superiority in the Force.

I think that in the end he fears most Anakin/Darth Vader. I think Anakin, Obi Wan and Qui-Gon were all really strong, but: Qui-Gon and Kenobi were... always Qui-Gon and Kenobi, they had their ways, their beliefs and ideas. You fear most the person that is not always the same, the person who is maybe TWO different person in one: Will this person now react this way or the other one?! Will he stay loyal? How do I interact with this person?! I hope I could explain in English... I meant a person who is not stable is hard to control and you never now what happens next...

I believe Sidious at one time may have also feared Dooku and Plagueis . After all Plagueis was his master and Dooku was the one Jedi that Plagueis thought might be able to defeat Palpatine and at one time considered replacing Sidious with Dooku as his apprentice should Sidious falter.

I agree these are some folks he would fear in the range of the most, and I liked the point of view, good vid as always..... but in the title, you said " only two he feared," and I thought, Only a Sith deals in absolutes. Also, when you practice the dark side, fear is your allie, and your fear will make you stronger. 😂

I would have loved to seen a series of young Palpatine tbh.
Being trained as a sith doing missions for his master and also his betrayal of his master.
Sith code 101 = betraying your master. Weird that any of them takes on any students 😅
Guess Anakin was a true sith after all.

He had the strength advantage on Vader that goes without saying. But it would be a fight where one single mistake would give Anakin an opening he'd definitely abuse, just like his fight on Mustafar. That fight was always one accident away from having Anakin as the victor.

Palpatine did not fear anyone, but did not want to get caught with his long plan to become the emperor. So the only person sensing anything wrong was QuiGonJim. He was the first to notify the council about the Disturbance in Force 😉
To summarize he was afraid getting caught too early, just every person does when their hand is in tje cookie jar.
