    The mistake I see most often with people employing a “3bet or fold” strategy is that they don’t actually fold these hands and just add them to their 3bet range.

      I agree and have tried explaining it to so many people. Just because you added A5s and 87s to your 3bet range, doesn’t mean you have to 3bet them every single time, especially in 3bet-or-fold spots.

    River sizing from
    Villain seems weird. Like if she had a flopped flush or house somehow why would she not want to shove river for just under pot. Like what bets does she have for half pot river? Like a bad flush? 76ss 87 SS 98ss. It doesn’t seem like a ton of combos

      If she is into thin value ( from a weaker Ax), but not so much into 4-betting pre, then she could probably have AK or AQ; - ideally with the Ks or Qs. Hero should most often have Ax with his defensive line; plus maybe TT. 😃

  • @gabrielrockman
    @gabrielrockman ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't mind calling on the river here. Calling the turn seems like a bad play, because I could see her betting a better Ace on the turn, and if she's bluffing, I'm guessing that she's got a flush draw and a gut shot straight draw and still has good equity. But I don't think she's betting a better Ace on the river after the board pairs and after he calls the turn. The river counterfeits some of the two pair hands that could have bet the turn, and it decreases the combos of top two pair (and the combos of flopped sets), so I think she would check back a lot of the hands that she was betting for value on the turn.
    There aren't that many combos of flushes that she should have if she's defending against a 3 bet and the ace of spades and 10 of spades are on the board, and the caller's hand and the board means that there are only 2 combos total of flopped sets (assuming that pocket 3s doesn't defend against a 3 bet), and 4 combos of flopped top two pair. Aside from the 3 suited broadways, maybe you can give her J-9 or 9-8 suited or some lower suited connectors, but there really aren't that many flushes that she should have. I don't think she's betting a 10 on the turn, even if it has a spade. But if she's playing off-suit broadway hands, and calling the 1/3rd pot bet on the flop if she has a spade in her hand, then she's got 18 combos of flopped combo draws, and could even be playing some of the 27 combos of flopped gut shots without a spade this way. I think she's playing all 18 of the flopped combo draws this way, so she's got a ton of bluffs here.
    So I think he made the right decision on the river.
    But on the turn when there are 18 combos of flopped combo draws that have excellent equity against him, plus he could be up against maybe 5 or 6 combos of flopped flushes, some two pair hands, and some stronger aces, I think he should have folded.

  • @fluffysheap

    I am not sure caller won this hand as much as opponent punted it. $400 is not enough to bluff river given how sticky caller has been. That bluff was not enough to get caller off an ace, and more than necessary if he has a busted draw. Opponent should have checked, bet small like $150 if she thought he was drawing or shoved.

But in theory vs good competent player on the river we want to have the k or q of spade blocking Ip value as IP player should never bluff K or Q spade as he blocks our call turn fold river hands like Kks QQs. Ip bluffs should be 44s or 55s.

    Reason being that if she has value, it’s gonna be A-10 K-10, 33, or a flush. Which will almost always raise, so we can fold. If she has a bluff, or thick value she should be betting much bigger or All in on River, which makes it nearly impossible to call. She may not even raise a flush on river with board pair given the action. Which saved us money if we gave betting initiative to her.
