As a resident of Mazatlán, thank you for your honest review of our city. Olas Altas, where I live, and Centro Historico are safer than any major city north of the border.
Great overview and tour, Morgan! Thank you! I love El Centro. There's lots to look at and do, but it's pleasant and relaxing, not "in your face." I would add that - other than the Blue Shirts - most natives one encounters downtown do not speak (much) English. 🔸️ My favorite itinerary in Mazatlan is to do the Shrimp Feast excursion - so pleasant and delicious! - and then wander in El Centro.🔸️ Maps of downtown, including all the major points of interest, are download-able on the web.
We really liked Mazatlan. It has a little bit of everything, historic sightseeing, a lovely beach and malecon. A vibrant Mercado, too. Right next to the cathedral is a large modern dept store, Livermore. It was a godsend when I needed new chargers for my phone and iPad.
We like to walk the "blue line" into the old city as you described - never have felt in danger. If you go in the spring there are giant statues for the carnival celebrations. Also check out the Beatles cutouts.
@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides That's what I've done so far. On my first cruise, the person I was traveling with got local currency for Mexico but I didn't even think of it. I had no trouble but we didn't shop at the same places.
Mazatlan has an unfair reputation because the state it's in has the same "Sinaloa". I am going to move there when I retire. Personally (as a Canadian) I read the Canadian Ministey of Foreign Affairs and the UK Home Office websites for travel advisories, but I've always dismissed the US Government ones. Just my take, but Americans are more hesitant to leave their borders than the rest of the world, and I think the federal government takes advantage of this to bring more tourist dollars into Vegas, Florida and Hawaii rather than going international.
All you people out there that think mazatlan is safe are pretty ignorant.....not only does mazatlan suck and is the arm pit of beaches in mexico... the people in mazatlan are very rude, the food sucks, the beaches are polluted, and the cartels are now fighting each other in mazatlan... there was a gunfight and a fire last night.. I lived there for 7 years and mazatlan is no longer safe with the cartels fighting... and it aint gonna anytime soon... youve been warned,, stay away,, oh yeah there are so many kidnappings in mazatlan its crazy..

Yes, I am a waver.
Morgan, that food looked so delicious. Glad you had a nice day safely exploring!

We had one of the taxi's outside the gate take us for a tour. Excellent guide, flexible with timings and never once felt unsafe
Love how you are always honest with your reviews
We always wave to the other ships, lots of fun. When in Icy Point the port workers were all waving. 👍
Morgan you're so entertaining and interesting.😂❤
Looks like a great trip! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Yes, I wave!!
Always wave!
I wave!
Do you ever get any of the local currency to use while you're in port? I haven't yet, but keep feeling like I should.
I actually usually try to use my credit card for everything and not carry cash.

Mazatlan was canceled on the Joy this month.

I would do the cruise but most likely staying inport.
everytime I went to Mazatlan, someone in my party got Montezuma's revenge
Happens to me every time I go to Chipotle or Taco Bell. 😢
Seriously Morgan, your bathroom pickiness is getting worse with age. 😉
