That's a good find. I've got thirteen years with Mercedes and am currently a master certified team lead. That's the first time I've seen corrosion at that interior box. When I first saw the complaint I figured for a blown circuit 87 fuse. Well done, will be looking into more of your videos.

Morrisey wrote a Smiths song about this same scenario... Idle speed relay on his 85 500 sel actin up. Shop told him "These things take time" hence the song!
This video was quite useful for my issue. I had a crank no start with electric cooling fan on full on a 1999 CLK320. I also had no comms with a scan tool. I fully charged the battery. No change. Checked every fuse. No change. I swapped the K40 relay block with a known good one. No change. I then bought a scrap yard ECU for £20 which wouldn't start the car but did communicate with the scan tool. I then swapped the MCU from my bad ECU into the replacement ECU and I was back in business. Which is just as well because now my 1998 E55 has coolant in the oil. So that's really serious and not getting used until that's diagnosed and resolved! Blokes like you put real value into TH-cam, so thanks very much!
There was website with an up close inspection of the Space Shuttle wiring. There were tons of chafe and arc spots. I used to work on airplanes and we had lots of wires break from work harden/vibration.
Thank you more than I express. I was working on clients car and accidentally grounded out on valve cover while back probing. I had the ESP AND FAN symptoms and thought I fried the computer. Rechecking the feed fuse #43 I found it was popped. I knew I already checked this but retraced my steps on your wiring diagram and found it. Tears of joy brother! I was screaming at you for five minutes while you were tearing that cowl apart to check the fuse connection. its very rare for me to get ahead of you on a diag. I recently did a chevy van no comm with the airbag module. same exact issue. I'm a college graduate with a 2 year degree in automotive technology and I wish I had a teacher like you ten years ago. your procedures have saved me so much time in the field. its nice to see someone get as excited as I do about diagnostics. thanks paul your a great inspiration.

I don't work on cars for a living, just for family and friends. Wish I had every video you have made (except for the x rated ones) or could take your courses. Don't know how much longer I will be able to work on vehicles anyway but I sure do love it !!!!

Hey Dan, keep in mind that ALL Mercedes-Benz hoods can lift into service mode (12 o'clock position). There is a red buttom one side that you press in while lifting and go to the other side and press that tab in and it should allow you to lift it thus rendering the hood lights obsolete.
Genius resistance = heat. I've seen so many corroded melted fuses. THANK YOU. Also the car has/had an air-tronic suspension. The bellows corrode and fail leading to air bag failures and some owners opt to buy the cheaper struts to save money. Thank you. Great video.
@38:57 and THAT is one of the reasons why I always physically pull out any fuse I wanna check. Years ago, I went to GM training course where they simulated several problems on different vehicles, and one of the things they did on one of the vehicles was break off one of the spades on a fuse, stuffed the broken spade in the outlet side of the fuse block, meaning the wire that was going from the fuse block to whatever it was the fuse was supposed to power, then plugged the fuse that they broke the spade off of into the other spade hole for that fuse location. I forget what the symptom(s) were, but the cause they were trying to simulate was a bad fuse block. It took everybody else who worked on that car 30-45 minutes to figure out what the problem was, I found out what the trainers really did to it in less than 5 by physically pulling the fuse.

Just bought a E500. One mention in my research in it was sunroof drains plug up and water leaks down through A pilar. Have watched your vids before and found them to be SOLID strategy based diagnostics. This is my 1st Benz and intimidates me a bit, but you just proved (again) it's about basic fundamentals regardless of make. Thank you sir!
Exactly! Fundamentals is key. Just had another comment here telling me to stop referencing other car models while I'm troubleshooting. That makes no sense to me. If you know your fundamentals, how can you not reference other cars.

If he serviced more Benz/ BMW Products - He would probably become a serial killer. Too much German over engineering and over simplification. Even down to brake and rotor service. Cant just do pads. They screw you with that too.
Hi there, if you enjoy German car issues and complicated problems now common with most German cars check out DIAGNOSE DAN channel, he is in the Netherlands and fixes problems that dealerships best mechanics cant fix and almost makes it look easy. Take a look at his no start BMW which ended up being a shorted door handle because it had that easy entry feature/nonsense which shut down the entire car
Lol, Danner goes on a rant about how it's not the fuse, then proceeds to diagnose a bad fuse. Great video for sure. I had a Ford van recently with a similar issue. Turned out to be the fuse box. Never would've found it without videos like yours. I love learning about this stuff.
Man that was allot of fun! Love those Benz fuze boxes. ML's have issues with water dripping onto the rear SAMs and rear box. One time, I pulled 85 dtc's from a ML350. This kind of problem solving is always rewarding when you get it figured out! Good job man, your an animal!

Again - watched this finding the expected unexpected/known unknown. My not be the cuprit in mine, but I have found that if there is a particular problem in a particular make and model - that it will likely be found in others with same make and model. Owned, serviced, flipped and troubleshot many VW & AUDI as well as GM make..you get to know exactly where to start looking before probing into more complex. Looks like simply pulling that fuse module and electrical cleaner + all new fuses would be prudent.
I remember during the late 70's and 80's, just about every Mercedes I'd pull up to had the tail lights full of water. My buddy upgraded every few years with another used car. We looked at a ton of them and many had leaky trunks and rotten trunk floors.
As I'm typing this, 106 comments only 95 thumbs up. Well done ! When you start working on a car, make sure that energy is allways available. Electricity and gas. Then check all the electric contacts. Pull fuses and relais. Very often, if not allways, you find the trouble maker. If Dan had checked his fuses better then problem would have been solved much quicker. But we are brainwashed by the OBD scanner manufacturers.
Youre easily the best mechanic I've witnessed in action. No ASE cert but my father taught master techs and I've been rebuilding cars my whole life. Dan, I appreciate you filming your course materials. You saved my Mercedes cls 55 amg rebuild. Along with several ac issues and injector issues on a CTSV. Keep up the good work.
Also, the moisture intrusion could have come from the sunroof drains. If the car has a sunroof, the drain tubes on Mercedes and BMW clog and can and often do dump water out of the tubes and down behind the A pillar covers. The water usually goes behind the edges of the dash and into the carpets and can get into the fuse boxes....And that fuse box is right below the path of the sunroof drain tube if equipped.....
Very good content Paul, I work a lot on Benz and it is very common issue the corroded terminals and modules, no idea what is the root cause, maybe materials are incompatible. Holly crap, that fan does sounds like the jet. What a great find. You got there by understanding circuit design and even that you were surprised a bit by the corrosion, the video was excellent because we were surprised with you. But the commentary kept us on track and it helped me visualize voltage drop. Thanks so much for letting us hang out in the class room/shop.
ESP = Electric Stability Program / Mercedes name for the electronic stability control / traction control. Damn rotten fuses, can get you in trouble every time. :-)
In addition to learning the ins and outs of troubleshooting modern vehicles from your channel, I'm also learning about myself! I could see the exact moment I'd have lost my patience, and ran a wire. I have 2 signal generators and dont even understand how to use it. Im so ahamed to say this cuz i have fixed a myriad of stuff. I have a snap on one and the harbor freight tool one. As I use it I dont beliew what I am doing. Pffff.
@@CBRRR-eh3ky Its just a matter of hooking it up properly and not blowing up the signal generator. I mimic a stock signal "arbitrary waveform" and watch for the changes in the ECU. I made a protection circuit that is a fet and transistor combo so I dont drive the circuit with the signal generator directly and damage it.
Mr danner ... it’s great to watch this, it’s like watching an artists paint the picture and as you watch it comes together ...... patience is the key and there’s about 70% of techs who think they know and talk the talk but still get caught out , I’ve personally seen techs going straight for the one of fix and finding out it’s a broken wire , keep up the good work
talking about corrosion you had that stupid cologne bottle hanging right over the air vent. Good chance it leaked at some point dripping fluid running along the wires down onto the back of the fuse box. That's my theory.
Almost impossible to Stop. The rain run off from the outside windshield drain, use a straight clothes hanger and stick it down the drain screen slot you should be able to see the hanger go all the way to the ground take a look under the car to make sure the hanger went all the way through to the ground to clean out leafs and dirt or water will come into the car on the floor boards and wet the fuses, two drains to clean out with a straight clothes hanger. Mercedes Benz was already been sued and loss the class action for such a poor design in a $100,000 car for water into the fuse boxes in and out.
Just in time. After replacing the o2 sensor and not seeing improvement I disconnected the MAF on my '89 Ranger 2.3 and turned ignition on off on off then started engine and it runs really good. Replacing MAF tomorrow. This after a week of troubleshooting. Thanks ScannerDanner.

Hi. Just seen you for the first time. Picked up a 2011 W204 C250. I’m an industrial electrician/electronic fault finder. Many different way to go around the fault. So well done. I would cut and spade lugged those bad fuses. Stick a temporary new fuse. Just to overcome voltage drop. No harm no foul. Lol. Regards KevinM
I'm always amazed at how people pay 70 or $80,000 for a car or more and then treat it like crap. Look at how filthy that car is! No wonder there's an air freshener attached to the vent.
For those who can spare $70-$80k on a car don't really care about how rough they treat their car. At the end of the day, to those people, time is money.
i hate to tell you but! with dan sullivans loadpro you would have seen the voltage drop at/to the fuse. The test you did with the volt meter and the test light to cause the voltage drop is essentially how the loadpro works and gives you a readout on the actuarl drop in voltage on the multimeter. My 300$ flashlight also paid off, i think it now only cost 150 $nz my phillips penlight premium . Top video like always.
I'm not so sure about that, because the corroded pin was on the load side not the feed side of the fuse. The drop would have shown just on the other side. my test light woukd have shown it if it was the feed coming into the fuse, in fact my voltmeter would have even shown it with the computer still plugged in as the load. Make sense?
I bought that load pro few years ago and the first and only time I used it was on a no start cavalier in walmart parking lot. It was the same problem as this car with A corroded fuse for the fuel pump. Soon as I touched the fuse with the load pro I heard the fuel pump turn on. I am confident I would have found the problem just as fast with my test light. Save your money.. Great video Paul
The loadpro is a time saver lets say, "the wire was corroded in the firewall to the fuse box" . You would definetly proof with the volt meter and pressing the loadpro button that the feed was good to the fuse holder and that the problem would have to be from there onwards for that particular circuit. The loadpro is a time saver that is ALL its not a competitor to a test light . 30 minute 50 secounds is exactly what i think the loadpro is doing and you dont have to rig up the testlight and the multimeter. Plus a test light lightbulb resistance changes as the bulb gets hot the loadpro has a fixed Load applyed . Well thats what i think is how it works i never seen sullivans patent.
no you wouldn't have. the meter clearly showed to voltage drop. if you like that load pro so much you should go watch the review of it on pine hollow auto diagnostics. I'm sure ivan will convince you its nothing special and a test light is all you really need.

Nice job!!!! That car is dejavu for me, my brother's neighbor bought one off Craigslist and spent way too much, as soon as he got home CEL pops on. Brings it to me, there is an EGR Flow and a ETC Code. Another shop had already cleaned the EGR and pipe out code came back. That pressure sensor that you tested in the video is the MAP Sensor. On mine the hose coming off of it was corroded and scan data was fixed at 20 in hg fixed it and it took care of the EGR Code. Learned that from you! Throttle was clean and wires looked good changed the ETC Assembly and took care of that code.
1. you don’t use a snap-on scanner on a Mercedes-Benz- It is absolutely useless. 2. If you were to read codes from the gateway (EIS module) you’ll probably see a factory fault code indicating which terminal is lacking power.
How important it is to check your basics as you did. I could imagine the changed parts list by a individual if they didn't do their basics: Entire key mechanism to the pcm. Perfect example you showed by checking power source with this case study. My inspiring instructor always says "Don't Be a Parts Changer" 😀. Thank you brother Paul 🙏.

To tell the truth, Mr. Kilmer has some kind of a point. It is depressing that products today have planned obsolescence in them. If you want to have say a smartphone that is up to date you will have to put up with the fact that they are not easy to repair. None of them. The battery is not user-replaceable and they will become sluggish with a software update because of a "new battery saving feature" that is "incompatible" with older models. The point is that **every** major cell phone manufacturer is doing this even with the most expensive models. The same can be said about cars though it is comforting that a Mercedes isn't too impossible to work with after all. Combine that with talented Chinese engineers that develop good tools that can hack into the OBD-II diagnostics interface for a mere fraction of the price of that tool he is using in the clip. Honestly, I don't feel that what the Volkswagen did with the diesel emissions is so bad. The smartphone manufacturers engage in much dirtier practices.
"Dr" Feyi (of LTI fame!) here... ...Checking fuses, Mr Danner, is just that...CHECKING FUSES! I am actually notorious for setting bugs that technical tests would miss but visual ones would find. Not to worry though, I have been stumped at my day job chasing similar v.drop issues and regret not having the time to go back and video the problem and its final resolution. That said, kudos Sir. Awesome Paul, like the way you approached this problem. CPU no communication, check power feeds to the CPU, found a low input, jumped it to 12 volts with enough amperage. Then everything woke up 🙂 Awesome. That's $$$$ in the Bank !!!

aviomaster alot of other cars have just as much. My GM trucks all have over 250k minor idiot lights etc. German cars horrible. They lost ww2 and seek revenge on us selling this overrated junk. Keeps our shop busy .
I do believe they are engineered to fail. I guess it keeps the riff raff from owning them and keeps them the toys of the richest even when they are old you will need to Chuck money at it to keep it alive. It’s a shame, because they are beautifully engineered and finished cars - can’t believe they do this to their own creations; no pride, all about profit
I'm not a mechanic but I work on my Mercedes cars as a hobby so any vid's with a Mercedes + ScannerDanner I'm watching... Also on Mercedes if the car won't go out of Park the reason is a dead battery.
Experience of semi truck driver , never trust at first look it is not always what it looks like. . . We have more vibration, corrosion , corroded wires. Always check back side of fuse or signal tracer I like your honesty and knowledge

I Have an 2003 Mercedes, no crank, no start, but the starter engages, diagnosed no fuel pressure, have already verified fuses & relay works, my pressure sensor is integrated into the fuel pump itself, so I'm ordering another pump that's where I'm at, Keep up the good work!

Hello ScannerDanner, Nice troubleshooting! You are the man! This is my first time viewing your channel. The moisture comes from heavy rain or any water from car wash. I have a 2004 C230 and noticed that it is always wet in that area under the hood after heavy rain (that’s why the cars have the huge gasket and a cover to deflect the water). Also the electrical box and computer in that area under the hood will potentially see lots of water which will drip down the wiring harness into the rear side of the fuse box in the dash. It happens so often that the fuse box has a part number and is a replaceable part. Keep up the good work.
No substitute for real world experience. New techs within their first 3 years don't tackle jobs like this without a mentor!!! Guidance and persistency!!

Dude: here it is July 2020 and I am seeing this for the first time. Impressive. I know M-B. Thumbs up from Death Valley, CA. where we keep a stable of S-Klasse cars operational.
We come across water ingress quite often on Rover 75 and MG ZT's which is what we specialise in. My advice while dealing with any unprotected plugs (ie not weather proofed) while they are unplugged simply pack the plugs & sockets with clear grease or battery terminal grease or even red rubber grease . At least if you don't trace the source of the leak at least if water does hit the plugs or fuse boxes etc it's not going to cause further corrosion due to the grease acting as a fantastic water repellent. We've used this practice for years and no problems will arise with interference or cross conductance or voltage leakage etc. In fact if the factories greased every plug and socket and fuse blade there would hardly be any faults but hey they don't want their cars to last forever do they ?!!! Great video Paul! I had the exact same issue on a light control module on a volkswagen. Took us days before we found internal corrosion in the fuse box. On the outside it looked perfect just like this one! This was a great example on such faults!! Thanks again for your great work!! Karel from Belgium
Great Danner nice diagnose, for a mechanic this could be a expensive one with a lot of parts ............ a new diagnostic to remember check the fuse if fuse is ok pull the fuse check for corrosion. The older types of fuses with aluminium on the fuse and copper on the fuse box did get corroded without water and could give a lot of problem but you only rolled the fuses and problem disappeared then you change to new fuses. Later learned that if you bought fuses with copper no more oxidation best to have same kind of metal and not mix.. But this case was moisture. Thanks for your time Danner

Thanks bro, you got it goin' on. btw Later Benzs' cooling fan is energized when the A/C compressor circuit is energized - even on cold start. Hit the IO button to remove it from operation (center console lower right button) or shut the climate system off completely (lower center IO button.) **It WILL START automatically but not "always on." That's a good find. I've got thirteen years with Mercedes and am currently a master certified team lead. That's the first time I've seen corrosion at that interior box. When I first saw the complaint I figured for a blown circuit 87 fuse. Well done, will be looking into more of your videos.

This video was quite useful for my issue. I had a crank no start with electric cooling fan on full on a 1999 CLK320. I also had no comms with a scan tool. I fully charged the battery. No change. Checked every fuse. No change. I swapped the K40 relay block with a known good one. No change. I then bought a scrap yard ECU for £20 which wouldn't start the car but did communicate with the scan tool. I then swapped the MCU from my bad ECU into the replacement ECU and I was back in business. Which is just as well because now my 1998 E55 has coolant in the oil. So that's really serious and not getting used until that's diagnosed and resolved! Blokes like you put real value into TH-cam, so thanks very much!

There was website with an up close inspection of the Space Shuttle wiring. There were tons of chafe and arc spots. I used to work on airplanes and we had lots of wires break from work harden/vibration.
Thank you more than I express. I was working on clients car and accidentally grounded out on valve cover while back probing. I had the ESP AND FAN symptoms and thought I fried the computer. Rechecking the feed fuse #43 I found it was popped. I knew I already checked this but retraced my steps on your wiring diagram and found it. Tears of joy brother! I was screaming at you for five minutes while you were tearing that cowl apart to check the fuse connection. its very rare for me to get ahead of you on a diag. I recently did a chevy van no comm with the airbag module. same exact issue. Hey Dan, keep in mind that ALL Mercedes-Benz hoods can lift into service mode (12 o'clock position). There is a red buttom one side that you press in while lifting and go to the other side and press that tab in and it should allow you to lift it thus rendering the hood lights obsolete.

Also the car has/had an air-tronic suspension. The bellows corrode and fail leading to air bag failures and some owners opt to buy the cheaper struts to save money.

@38:57 and THAT is one of the reasons why I always physically pull out any fuse I wanna check. Years ago, I went to GM training course where they simulated several problems on different vehicles, and one of the things they did on one of the vehicles was break off one of the spades on a fuse, stuffed the broken spade in the outlet side of the fuse block, meaning the wire that was going from the fuse block to whatever it was the fuse was supposed to power, then plugged the fuse that they broke the spade off of into the other spade hole for that fuse location. I forget what the symptom(s) were, but the cause they were trying to simulate was a bad fuse block. It took everybody else who worked on that car 30-45 minutes to figure out what the problem was, I found out what the trainers really did to it in less than 5 by physically pulling the fuse.

Just bought a E500. One mention in my research in it was sunroof drains plug up and water leaks down through A pilar. Have watched your vids before and found them to be SOLID strategy based diagnostics. Exactly! Fundamentals is key. Just had another comment here telling me to stop referencing other car models while I'm troubleshooting. That makes no sense to me. If you know your fundamentals, how can you not reference other cars.

Hi there, if you enjoy German car issues and complicated problems now common with most German cars check out DIAGNOSE DAN channel, he is in the Netherlands and fixes problems that dealerships best mechanics cant fix and almost makes it look easy. Take a look at his no start BMW which ended up being a shorted door handle because it had that easy entry feature/nonsense which shut down the entire car

Man that was allot of fun! Love those Benz fuze boxes. ML's have issues with water dripping onto the rear SAMs and rear box. One time, I pulled 85 dtc's from a ML350. This kind of problem solving is always rewarding when you get it figured out! Good job man, your an animal!

Again - watched this finding the expected unexpected/known unknown. My not be the cuprit in mine, but I have found that if there is a particular problem in a particular make and model - that it will likely be found in others with same make and model.
Owned, serviced, flipped and troubleshot many VW & AUDI as well as GM make..you get to know exactly where to start looking before probing into more complex. Looks like simply pulling that fuse module and electrical cleaner + all new fuses would be prudent.
I remember during the late 70's and 80's, just about every Mercedes I'd pull up to had the tail lights full of water. My buddy upgraded every few years with another used car. We looked at a ton of them and many had leaky trunks and rotten trunk floors.
As I'm typing this, 106 comments only 95 thumbs up. Sometimes I get the TH-cam email for a new scannerdanner vid and just get excited and hit play and watch only to realize after its over I'm not "signed in" to accept my thumbs up. Well done ! When you start working on a car, make sure that energy is allways available. Electricity and gas. Then check all the electric contacts. Pull fuses and relais. Very often, if not allways, you find the trouble maker. If Dan had checked his fuses better then problem would have been solved much quicker. But we are brainwashed by the OBD scanner manufacturers.
Youre easily the best mechanic I've witnessed in action. No ASE cert but my father taught master techs and I've been rebuilding cars my whole life.
Dan, I appreciate you filming your course materials. You saved my Mercedes cls 55 amg rebuild. Along with several ac issues and injector issues on a CTSV. Keep up the good work.
Also, the moisture intrusion could have come from the sunroof drains. If the car has a sunroof, the drain tubes on Mercedes and BMW clog and can and often do dump water out of the tubes and down behind the A pillar covers. The water usually goes behind the edges of the dash and into the carpets and can get into the fuse boxes....And that fuse box is right below the path of the sunroof drain tube if equipped.....

Very good content Paul, I work a lot on Benz and it is very common issue the corroded terminals and modules, no idea what is the root cause, maybe materials are incompatible.

You got there by understanding circuit design and even that you were surprised a bit by the corrosion, the video was excellent because we were surprised with you. But the commentary kept us on track and it helped me visualize voltage drop. Thanks so much for letting us hang out in the class room/shop.
ESP = Electric Stability Program / Mercedes name for the electronic stability control / traction control. Damn rotten fuses, can get you in trouble every time. :-)
ESP will not work if you deactivate the AIRMATIC suspension or have any faults in the ABS system pump assembly.
In addition to learning the ins and outs of troubleshooting modern vehicles from your channel, I'm also learning about myself! I could see the exact moment I'd have lost my patience, and ran a wire. There's no TH-cam vid in the world that will help me with that problem - gotta do that one on my own, lol. PATIENCE!! I need it BADLY! Especially with modern cars.

I have 2 signal generators and dont even understand how to use it. Im so ahamed to say this cuz i have fixed a myriad of stuff. I have a snap on one and the harbor freight tool one. As I use it I dont beliew what I am doing. Pffff.
@@CBRRR-eh3ky Its just a matter of hooking it up properly and not blowing up the signal generator. I mimic a stock signal "arbitrary waveform" and watch for the changes in the ECU. I made a protection circuit that is a fet and transistor combo so I dont drive the circuit with the signal generator directly and damage it.
Mr danner ... it’s great to watch this, it’s like watching an artists paint the picture and as you watch it comes together ...... patience is the key and there’s about 70% of techs who think they know and talk the talk but still get caught out , I’ve personally seen techs going straight for the one of fix and finding out it’s a broken wire , keep up the good work
talking about corrosion you had that stupid cologne bottle hanging right over the air vent. Good chance it leaked at some point dripping fluid running along the wires down onto the back of the fuse box. That's my theory.

Almost impossible to Stop. The rain run off from the outside windshield drain, use a straight clothes hanger and stick it down the drain screen slot you should be able to see the hanger go all the way to the ground take a look under the car to make sure the hanger went all the way through to the ground to clean out leafs and dirt or water will come into the car on the floor boards and wet the fuses, two drains to clean out with a straight clothes hanger. Mercedes Benz was already been sued and loss the class action for such a poor design in a $100,000 car for water into the fuse boxes in and out.

Just in time. After replacing the o2 sensor and not seeing improvement I disconnected the MAF on my '89 Ranger 2.3 and turned ignition on off on off then started engine and it runs really good. Replacing MAF tomorrow. This after a week of troubleshooting. Thanks ScannerDanner.

I would cut and spade lugged those bad fuses. Stick a temporary new fuse. Just to overcome voltage drop.

I'm always amazed at how people pay 70 or $80,000 for a car or more and then treat it like crap. Look at how filthy that car is! No wonder there's an air freshener attached to the vent.

i hate to tell you but! with dan sullivans loadpro you would have seen the voltage drop at/to the fuse. The test you did with the volt meter and the test light to cause the voltage drop is essentially how the loadpro works and gives you a readout on the actuarl drop in voltage on the multimeter. My 300$ flashlight also paid off, i think it now only cost 150 $nz my phillips penlight premium .

I'm not so sure about that, because the corroded pin was on the load side not the feed side of the fuse. The drop would have shown just on the other side. my test light woukd have shown it if it was the feed coming into the fuse, in fact my voltmeter would have even shown it with the computer still plugged in as the load. Make sense?
I bought that load pro few years ago and the first and only time I used it was on a no start cavalier in walmart parking lot. It was the same problem as this car with A corroded fuse for the fuel pump. Soon as I touched the fuse with the load pro I heard the fuel pump turn on. I am confident I would have found the problem just as fast with my test light. Save your money..

The loadpro is a time saver lets say, "the wire was corroded in the firewall to the fuse box" . You would definetly proof with the volt meter and pressing the loadpro button that the feed was good to the fuse holder and that the problem would have to be from there onwards for that particular circuit. The loadpro is a time saver that is ALL its not a competitor to a test light . 30 minute 50 secounds is exactly what i think the loadpro is doing and you dont have to rig up the testlight and the multimeter.
Plus a test light lightbulb resistance changes as the bulb gets hot the loadpro has a fixed Load applyed . Well thats what i think is how it works i never seen sullivans patent.
no you wouldn't have. the meter clearly showed to voltage drop. if you like that load pro so much you should go watch the review of it on pine hollow auto diagnostics. I'm sure ivan will convince you its nothing special and a test light is all you really need.

Nice job!!!! That car is dejavu for me, my brother's neighbor bought one off Craigslist and spent way too much, as soon as he got home CEL pops on. Brings it to me, there is an EGR Flow and a ETC Code. Another shop had already cleaned the EGR and pipe out code came back. That pressure sensor that you tested in the video is the MAP Sensor. On mine the hose coming off of it was corroded and scan data was fixed at 20 in hg fixed it and it took care of the EGR Code. Learned that from you! Throttle was clean and wires looked good changed the ETC Assembly and took care of that code.
1. you don’t use a snap-on scanner on a Mercedes-Benz- It is absolutely useless.
2. If you were to read codes from the gateway (EIS module) you’ll probably see a factory fault code indicating which terminal is lacking power.

How important it is to check your basics as you did. I could imagine the changed parts list by a individual if they didn't do their basics: Entire key mechanism to the pcm. Perfect example you showed by checking power source with this case study.

To tell the truth, Mr. Kilmer has some kind of a point. It is depressing that products today have planned obsolescence in them.
If you want to have say a smartphone that is up to date you will have to put up with the fact that they are not easy to repair. None of them. The battery is not user-replaceable and they will become sluggish with a software update because of a "new battery saving feature" that is "incompatible" with older models. The point is that **every** major cell phone manufacturer is doing this even with the most expensive models.
The same can be said about cars though it is comforting that a Mercedes isn't too impossible to work with after all. Combine that with talented Chinese engineers that develop good tools that can hack into the OBD-II diagnostics interface for a mere fraction of the price of that tool he is using in the clip.
Honestly, I don't feel that what the Volkswagen did with the diesel emissions is so bad. The smartphone manufacturers engage in much dirtier practices.

Awesome Paul, like the way you approached this problem. CPU no communication, check power feeds to the CPU, found a low input, jumped it to 12 volts with enough amperage. Then everything woke up 🙂 Awesome. That's $$$$ in the Bank !!!

I Have an 2003 Mercedes, no crank, no start, but the starter engages, diagnosed no fuel pressure, have already verified fuses & relay works, my pressure sensor is integrated into the fuel pump itself, so I'm ordering another pump that's where I'm at, Keep up the good work!

Hello ScannerDanner, Nice troubleshooting! You are the man! This is my first time viewing your channel. The moisture comes from heavy rain or any water from car wash. I have a 2004 C230 and noticed that it is always wet in that area under the hood after heavy rain (that’s why the cars have the huge gasket and a cover to deflect the water). Also the electrical box and computer in that area under the hood will potentially see lots of water which will drip down the wiring harness into the rear side of the fuse box in the dash. It happens so often that the fuse box has a part number and is a replaceable part. Keep up the good work.
No substitute for real world experience. New techs within their first 3 years don't tackle jobs like this without a mentor!!! Guidance and persistency!!

Man brother i have been dealing with my mercedes benz e320 exactly like that one i had the same exact issue i changed my whole ignition a few months ago but still have very little to no communication when i plug my scan tool now you just pointed me in the right direction thank you so much for making this video. We come across water ingress quite often on Rover 75 and MG ZT's which is what we specialise in.
My advice while dealing with any unprotected plugs (ie not weather proofed) while they are unplugged simply pack the plugs & sockets with clear grease or battery terminal grease or even red rubber grease . At least if you don't trace the source of the leak at least if water does hit the plugs or fuse boxes etc it's not going to cause further corrosion due to the grease acting as a fantastic water repellent.
We've used this practice for years and no problems will arise with interference or cross conductance or voltage leakage etc.
In fact if the factories greased every plug and socket and fuse blade there would hardly be any faults but hey they don't want their cars to last forever do they ?!!!

Great video Paul! I had the exact same issue on a light control module on a volkswagen. Took us days before we found internal corrosion in the fuse box. On the outside it looked perfect just like this one! This was a great example on such faults!! Thanks again for your great work!! Karel from Belgium
Great Danner nice diagnose, for a mechanic this could be a expensive one with a lot of parts ............ a new diagnostic to remember check the fuse if fuse is ok pull the fuse check for corrosion. The older types of fuses with aluminium on the fuse and copper on the fuse box did get corroded without water and could give a lot of problem but you only rolled the fuses and problem disappeared then you change to new fuses. Later learned that if you bought fuses with copper no more oxidation best to have same kind of metal and not mix..
But this case was moisture. Thanks for your time Danner

Hit the IO button to remove it from operation (center console lower right button) or shut the climate system off completely (lower center IO button.) **It WILL START automatically but not "always on."
