William tanner, you just explained my situation in terms of where im at with my career. I left a diagnostic shop to go to a lazy front end/tire chain store, worst mistake ive done. Im in the middle of making the transition to diagnostics, ive been watching Danners videos for ONE day. I swear i have made more of a connection with electric theory now more than my past 5 years as a tech. Im getting that fkn book. Just, wow. Thanks scanner danner.
I've been getting many f150 trucks in for no crank no start no comm. Your method of testing for 5 volt reference is priceless. The owner has a few locksmiths and small shops check it out. After consulting with them not 1 person said they checked powers and grounds or for a 5 volt reference. Everyone said it's the pcm. The pcm is talking to several sensors so I ruled that out. Ruled out fuses and relays and ended up finding bad grounds. Many years ago I asked you about a 98 Chevy express van fuel issue and you steered me to the problem. I wish all my friends would stop calling me to beat my brain up with questions but somehow I always fix everything I touch. I'm a collision repair shop but hey money is money there days. It got to where I have to keep my doors locked and my phone off. Lol. I can't thank you enough Paul.

Great video. Never thought about importance of using a test light. I usually use a dmm for stuff like that. So hard to fry ecm with one. But as many times as I have forgot to switch the confounded test lead back to volt side of multimeter. I could see myself forgetting if it were a jumper wire I was using instead of a test light. Between you and Eric O. My diagnostic skills have increased tremendously. Thank you.
old video but currently watching this today to diag my ms3, this video was very informative and bridged some gaps i was having trouble with on my car. you are a great teacher i wish i could have had the opportunity to learn from you in person
Great explanation on how to check this problem! I will be following it step by step tomorrow, on the job, at a Mazda dealer, while I try to diagnose a 2010 Mazda 3 auction car that came in with no communication with pcm and a no crank condition. This video will save me hours. Thank you.
Hey Ken. What did it end up being? a fraued wire / corroded terminal in the harness? Did you have security light issues? Crank but no start? I have a 2010 Mazda CX7 and the security light blinks even while car is unlocked. I troubleshot the immobilizer and key and they’re compatible. (It cranks. No crank if immobilizer is unplugged or moved away from key. But when returned it cranks.) The owner is my friend and is desperate. I spent all day on it reprogramming keys. Changing spark plugs back after another tech changed em. Checking fuses etc. I’m at a loss.
Lets keep it simple and straight to the point....you saved my a$!....I am a hs math teacher and any sort of electrical issues used to scare the hell otta me...With your vids and amazing attention to the learning side....I was able to diagnose and fix my audi that would have otherwise been thousands of dollars at the dealer......thank you so much and I will absolutely be purchasing your book, not only for my benifit but to help you continue these videos.....As a teacher, this is our biggest reward and reason......
Love your editing! The picture in picture and the commentary flows beautifully together. Then to find that issue with the steps you display was a lot of fun. Plus the wire was easy to get to, nice.

Excellent video. You sir are very good at what you do. I like the fact that you do not forget the basics and that's what the great teachers do, they hammer home the basics. You are very logical and you use a lot of common sense. Common sense is not taught today in our schools. I guess I can't say that because you teach common sense. Thank you for being an exception to the rule, have a great day Professor.
cant believe there's 5 thumbs down This is great demonstration of relays. Had a generator with three sequencial safty relays throw me for a heck of a loop one WEEKEND😅 Start switch would close the control circute, once closed power would back feed all three relay control circutes but if any of the safety switches lost ground the circute would open on all three relays. Drove me crazy and found falty oil pressure switch. Leaned how relays can back feed once closed to stay closed till lose of ground and be hooked in series at the same time.

Haha yes!
ScannerDanner. Have a few questions
Man I get emotional watching your videos, you’ve given me a new drive in life learning about diagnostics. I’ll certainly be getting the Book and learning more about how the premium classes work. Your work is not in vain Sir, thank you!!
really that you are the best !!! I am a faithful follower of your channel ... I learn a lot with you. blessings for you and your family!!!
Amigo de FD Automotriz?
Great video. Never thought about importance of using a test light. I usually use a dmm for stuff like that. So hard to fry ecm with one. But as many times as I have forgot to switch the confounded test lead back to volt side of multimeter. I could see myself forgetting if it were a jumper wire I was using instead of a test light. Between you and Eric O. My diagnostic skills have increased tremendously. Thank you.
Hey Scanner your production quality has gone right up. Love the overlays that really helps.
old video but currently watching this today to diag my ms3, this video was very informative and bridged some gaps i was having trouble with on my car. you are a great teacher i wish i could have had the opportunity to learn from you in person
Thank you nick!
Use to lol
What a compliment! Thank you so much for the support and nice job fixing your car. What was the issue?
Unfortunately most mechanics just throw parts at the car until it's fixed, so good on you for fixing it yourself
It was the BCM, the previous owner did not take the wiper off to remove the ecu cover.
Water got into the BCM through the cover.
Love your editing! The picture in picture and the commentary flows beautifully together. Then to find that issue with the steps you display was a lot of fun. Plus the wire was easy to get to, nice.
Thanks Wyatt!
@@ScannerDanner Sir, my car SDVC function doesn't work in my i20 2011 1.2. all the other functions volume, etc. are working ok. Please show video how to check the SDVC signal wire damaged or shorted. Thanks in advance.
someone actually disliked this video??????? that person MUST be on the RAG!!!!!
THAT PERSON MUST BE A COMPLETE AZZHOLE ! LOL
Watched this 2 months ago and kinda got what you were doing. I Bought your book and now working through the sd premium videos at the moment. Just watched this video again today and wow! Reading the book has made this so simple to understand circuit design in this video. Well done on your efforts!
Hi
I must declare here with my whole honesty ..... This subscription and became a member in your web site... was the best INVESTMENT in the last decade....
At my early fifties I have learned to respect technicians worldwide and YOU My friend belong in the TOP 5 worldwide .....
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

You still so young
Here in Sweden if you reach to 75 year's you still young.
God bless you and your family .
Best regards
Thank you so much for making this video. The very same identical thing happened to my 2010 Mazda 3,and had the guy at shop that chases electrical gremlins not been on vacation,it would gave been there Friday. Sunday I ran across your video, and it's now happily running thanks to you.I know they'd have charged me a minimum of $500,again "Thank You"

Corroded fuse box imagine that. When I fix cars speed and accuracy matter I can't say for sure but I think I would have gone straight for the power circuit and if I find corrosion in the fuse box, well there you go. I do understand you are a teacher and you are teaching the fundamentals. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Watching you explain and fixing problems on actual vehicles is really cool you don't believe how much this has helped me it thank you so much I live in trinidad I would really like to sign up for you on line classes
Do it! You won't be disappointed

Look forward to hearing from you more, thanks so much!
Great video as always Paul! 👍 I can only imagine the guys that sent this to auction : scanner into the OBD 2 port,no COM...computer dead send this to auction! I bet you knew what’s wrong with it once you pulled that relay and saw the green death! 😁
Great vid, as always! Glad I'm able to "go to school" without leaving my house, thanks to you, Paul!
No shame in plugging good stuff! If you guys want to learn modern automotive troubleshooting, but are in a point in your life where you cannot travel, or afford school, Paul's Premium Channel is where it's at. Been subbed for 18 months or so now - best money I've EVER spent! Now instead of yanking my hair out and cursing modern cars, I fix them, and get paid. 👍
Just adjusted the throttle position sensor on my '86 Grand Marquis yesterday using Paul's methods (stole some T-pins from my wife, lol). No more off-idle stumble. 😎
thanks Smitty!
What kind of chump would give a thumbs down? Thanks for your teaching and sharing your time.
Hey Dan I love your channel I’ve been a mechanic for since 82 so what’s that 40 years Porsche‘s general motor‘s master tech now I’m Volvo Mac truck master tech your diagnosis process is awesome I just want to say you do a great job have a great day
I got the book. The best ever. I have learned a lot and applied those principles on the field with great success. Thank you master.
Thank you so much!
You are great at what you do. I wish I had your knowledge and experience about diagnosing engine problems. Keep up the good work.
Quite a common fault, also burn out in white plug where ignition feed is (you tested) through poor ground and the same green gunge! Love the videos Dan, makes teaching my staff so much easier with these quality vids.
Thanks Peter. My name is Paul btw, my last name is Danner :-)
Nailed it, I think I'll order your book, I've seen enough of your videos to know whats in it, but it seems a cracking refrence book to have
Paul it’s a great feeling seeing how humble you are and how you share your knowledge thank you for that and may God bless you and your family . Also you were really funny at the end keep on smiling and handing them out as well
Great Video! Love the setup. This one is a goldmine for some good foundational information.
You just helped me diagnose a car that I haven't been able to crank in 4 years!! Thank you sir.
Let me guess? Mazda? Lol
Great Video Paul, your a real Mcgyver fixing that car with a piece of wire!😉
I thought you were watching SD and I was right.
nemanja dzombic i watch most video's of all automotive channels!😉
Nicely done...electrical tracing is a nightmare for most ppl..and costly... hence auction lol ..ur reaching ppl years later and helping.. very cool
Nice study. Your video production is first rate, but you have done a couple in the past with a pencil drawing on the back of a pizza box I thought were fantastic! Would like to see the "Leafs" win one Stanley Cup in my lifetime though. 🤞
Great video. Very informational, I learn alot when I watch you. I am very mechanically inclined, but when it comes to electrical diagnostics im lost. Watching you helps me at work tremendously. Thanx so much for the videos.
This is diagnostic gravy for those of us SD Premium subscribers! Wish I could get a car in my shop with such an easy one. Love it!
Thanks for the great video, your channel has some of the best information on auto repair out there. Please do more test light videos, they're really helpful for people that can't afford the high end scan tools.
Love my test light. Will do brother. Thanks!
I've watched enough, I'm signing up for the premium. I've been to my local college and no one explains it as well as Paul has. Can't afford to go back to school for automotives but I think the online scanner dinner premium will be just as good👍👍
You won't be disappointed my friend. Thank you!
Thank you Paul. You mean so much to all of us technicians. Bless you brother. You're doing a Godly work by sharing your talents and light to the world. Love you brother.
Thanks Billy!
Very nice video. Although I don't repair vehicles, other than my own, I really enjoy the knowledge I get from your videos. Keep up the excellent work!
Loved it when you found the open circuit, My mind was going check the Wire it self at Both Ends to see if possible either faulty terminal at computer or then at Fuse Box. Loved the Fine Paul. you are such a great teacher in fault Diagnosis and repair. Wish i lived a little closer would certainly attend a few of your Classes, can never stop learning Cheers from Australia
Another great video Paul. I recommend 2 books to all who want to learn.
1. Paul Danner's Engine Performance Diagnostics Book- A+ Rating!
2. Tony Candela's Electronics Book.
GO BRUINS!
I used to like you haha Go Pens!
ScannerDanner Lol.
Thank you brother for what you do. Love watching all your videos. You are an intelligent man. And I'm sure your students would agree.
thumbs up....... great job bro.....your the expert......open circuit is not an easy to find out the fault, only experienceable and aptitude like to solved such lost communication....with PCM no crank, security light flashing.....im proud of you....
Paul, take your ring off. Safety first!!! Great videos!!!
MIL? 5 volt Ref? Comm? Does it Crank?(the relay maybe computer controlled)Spark? Injection Pulse? Fuel Pump activity when key is cycled/while cranking? Security Light flashing? These are just basic fundamentals...keep cool keep calm and grab a Snickers....I mean an incandescent test light LOLYou da Man Paul!
First Id like to thank you for making this video,
With that said I manage to acces the electrical issue im having..and lucky me its what this video 100% hand in hand situation I was having..with my fully built mazdaspeed3 (even better) your demo car happen to be,not quiet but almost identical car..thank you Sir im oretty sure i can find the link on your book here somewhere,,but to show my appreciation and and how thankful I am for your time to share your uncanny gift in your field..to us next gen guys.wether import or domestic...Sir you are....LEGEND.✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
that car owner hit many deep puddles! I saw more corrosion in that box... a box replacement would be the best repair but nice diag mr scanner
agree, box replacement was suggested to the owner
@@ScannerDanner Sir, my car SDVC function doesn't work in my i20 2011 1.2. all the other functions volume, etc. are working ok. Please show video how to check the SDVC signal wire damaged or shorted. Thanks in advance.
Wow that was really slick!! Liked those little pins with the balls on the end. 5volt ref and incandescent test light.
Man I've been binge watching your videos and I've gotta say, I get a weird high when you go through the process of diagnosing and confidently state that it should turn after an intervention. Almost like I'm there working working on the car aswell 😂
Keep up the good work, I like your style of diagnosing because I dread spending on unnecessary spending for parts
me too lol its a taste of the high you get when you fix a problem using the skills learned.
Old man glasses aye?
You very funny Dr Jones.
Bulb test lights are the greatest and most overlooked diagnostic tool
cant believe there's 5 thumbs down
This is great demonstration of relays.
Had a generator with three sequencial safty relays throw me for a heck of a loop one WEEKEND😅
Start switch would close the control circute, once closed power would back feed all three relay control circutes but if any of the safety switches lost ground the circute would open on all three relays.
Drove me crazy and found falty oil pressure switch.
Leaned how relays can back feed once closed to stay closed till lose of ground and be hooked in series at the same time.
Great One!, You seem really happy, Hope everything is going well boss!
One of the best teachers i've ever seen.well worth the 11 bucks a month.thanks danner.
Thank you Kyle!
Awesome Paul. I watched to the end and wrote 5 pages down everything you pointed into my notebook. I'm going to get a copy of your book. Cheers)
your effort is highly appreciated since many of learners seeking better guidance as what you given for us.That is considered as great empathy ....keep going we the best followers...
You make a crank no start diagnose so easy when i try to figure out what's wrong with my car i dont even know where to start
Thanks a lot for the whole 20 minutes.
For the 1st time I've managed to listen very clearly and learned something amazing from you.
Bless.
Glad it was helpful!
@@ScannerDanner yes sir thank you.
Very Good Info, Very Nicely Explanation About The 5volt ref..
Been looking forward to another new episode!
I needed this so much...my 03 ford expedition sat for months many mechanics told me all kinds of things but I knew they were wrong and piece by piece I found my problem but couldn't solve it and here was the answer 😂😂😂😂...thanks
Awesome! I actually understood what the problem was, and why the solution was the answer. Unfortunately, my problem is different. But to be educated is always appreciated.
Thank you.
I bought your book already I just wished it was hard cover, I’d paid the difference... I learned a lot on this video. Thank you so much for your videos!
I really enjoy sing someone what the stands electronic circuits That's the difference between the mechanic and the automotive technician there's not enough knowledge of electronics and I stressed out on my channel keep up the good work
Excellent! One of your best videos yet on this subject. Thanks Dr. Danner!
You keep making videos like this one and my customers are going to be fixing their own cars LOL

Always makes me smile when they fire up. Thanks for posting bro
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT video Mr Paul.... thank you!! I binge watch all of your videos... and your book is the bees knees... the troubleshooters Bible.
Another great video. Amazing how a little corrosion can mess stuff up. Under the hood is a bad location for the computers and fuses and such
Paul, thank you for training these young folks to be technicians and saving society from another generation of parts changers.
Man i love your channel!Another awesome video and job,and the "mood" in your videos is just perfect!Greetings from Norway , Stefan :)

I have to give thanks. I have a Pontiac g3. It was tweaking out, shifting funny and had now acceleration. It pulled a U0100 code. After watching your video I decided to inspect the bottom half of the fuse box. there was a smoking gun. Someone spliced a wire with a odd ball compression barrel connector. I cut it all out and soldered everything. just like that It's back to normal.
Its always a pleasure watching you in action Danner
Good stuff there Paul, great basic checks there
Very high quality education. Highly recommended to any new mechanics.
Thank you!
Just keep doing what you do Paul you do an excellent job I have a repair shop and I made so much money off your accurate and faster he got a whole lot more customers thank you very much God bless
