Thank you for letting me be a part of this amazing review Shane! 🙏 I want this camera and equipment so badly now! I think it's also your filming skills that made it so dope though haha
great review, and of course I would like to see a comparison of GH5, GH5S, and G85, because I already have GH5 and G85 and I am happy with them :). Thanks for your amazing reivews.
I replaced my Canon EOS R with the BGH1 a few months ago, and have completely fallen in love with it. The BGH1 and GH5s are nearly identical, except the BGH1 is supposed to have an extra stop of dynamic range.
Just got a gh5s because of this video 😅. Would love to have you explain your static gh5s setup. How you connect to the Mac, probably tether, prompter? Etc. love your videos - keep doing
These cameras are great. I recently got another couple of them to use as a light weight travel rig. Sure thing I’ll add this request to the cue of videos coming up. :)
Hi Shane! Love your guitar channel and this channel! I know you did a video where you went all FF using multiple s5. I use s1h & 2xS1. I have a chance to get a gh5s and I think it would make for a great tripod 4 angle camera during weddings. How does compare in terms of vlog vs vlog L and is it still a relevant camera?
I really loved using this camera. I’m actually considering getting another one due to how light and small they are. VlogL on this looks great. I used it on my S5 first impressions video. You can see how vlog grades on there 😊👍
@@ChrisFlores22 Man, it's a tough call. The GH5II is a great camera as well. The GH5S is lighter and has a slightly wider field of view and has better low light performance as well. For tripod work the GH5S is pretty special. I would love to go back to a small and light portable travel rig. I wish I had my new set when I got the GH5S I probably would not have traded them in as my lighting and knowledge moved forward a lot since 20202. The GH5II/GH6 are way better for handheld stuff but the look of the GH5S is pretty special. edit: This won't replace my guitar studio setup. The S5's are in there to stay for a long time. The results are awesome.
So basically you can go for the GH5s because the wider field of view allows for a bit of cropping in post-production stabilization? You gain beter color and low light performance that the GH5.
The image out of the GH5S is overall nicer than the GH5 in lower lit conditions and in general thanks to the improved sensor technology. Not having stabilisation though is a deal-breaker for a lot of people. If you shoot on a tripod or gimbal the GH5s is awesome.
Even with the full-frame mirrorless wave, the GH5s is my golden dream camera. IBIS is overrated; I've shot pro stuff with a G7 for years now. Sensor size is overrated too, and the added weight and bulk, high cost, poor battery life, and potential sensor overheating issues all make full-frame an extremely unattractive value proposition. I think people who "need IBIS" like vloggers should be using small-sensor camcorders instead of stills-style ILCs. My Panasonic VX870 camcorder stabilizes better than any GH5, has massive zoom distance, and fits in my right pocket.
You just gave me an idea of what would be great to have on the GH6. If they keep going with a wider sensor like the one from GH5s is BGH1, but with gyroscope to help with stabilization in post.
The prices on the used market are very, very tempting but I think I'd probably spend the extra couple of hundred dollars to get a S1 or S5. If the price continues to go down though I may consider buying one! Currently I'm using a GH5, G85 and GX85 set up for multicam shoots and it's fantastic! The GX85 might be my favorite purchase of the last 5 years: I got it for $250 US, which is a bargain! My only complaint is that it doesn't have a mic jack, but you really can't beat it when it comes to value!
The S1 is great but with no flippy screen it's a video dealbreaker for me. The micro HDMI port on the S6 sucks so both weren't right for me. This was waaay less expensive than both of those options by almost a grand. :)
Are Panasonic frame rates region locked? The local retailers here sell them at a higher price than a brand new A7iii, so I was thinking of B&H or Amazon... But the regions are different.
Thanx bro great review :) I started with the G85, still have it. A few months back I bought a G9, Just something about Lumix I love. Once you get used to their AF system, they are awesome camera's. I sold my Canon M50 and picked up a Sony ZV-1, just something small to carry around :). I think you need to send me one of the GH5's :P. Anyway thanx again Shane...... Have a great Xmas bro and looking forward to your vlogs in 2021. Regards ya mate in Adelaide.
Some of the footage is 4k50 (pal) and HD 120p (from memory) which is all Cine-V straight out of the camera. I may have adjusted the footage slightly but not much.
Anyone experienced any rattle/noise while shaking their Gh5s? The Gh5 has a rattle/noise due to IBIS but the S does not have stabilization, so not sure why mine rattles when shaken. The sensor should be fixed in place. Is that normal?
I’ve owned the GH5 for a couple of years and last year I replaced my GH4 with the G9 (because I do take photos too). If I needed low light capability I would definitely add the GH5s to the collection but I can’t justify it at the moment. My next moral dilemma will arrive with the GH6! I have no interest in moving away from the M4/3 system and that’s why I have fourteen lenses 🤷
I just click the stabilisation tool in final cut pro and it works by figuring out how much movement there is. Most video editing programs has that option. You can use optical stabilised lenses with this camera for better handheld footage.
Hello. I have a GH5 and a GH5S. Can the video be recorded at changing speeds in-camera(like slo-motion), or must it be done in post? I would like to record normal speed, then slow, then normal again on the fly in-camera if possible. Thank You!
The camera can shoot 4k60 in camera and you can slow that down 50% in editing. For the higher frame rates like 100p upwards, the camera slows it down internally and you can just put it on a standard time line.
The GH5 is fantastic and is a much better handheld camera. I have two of those cameras and I am not getting rid of them. The GH5S sensor is different but the GH5 will give you great results. I've shot hundreds of videos with my GH5s over my other channels and the quality is always great. :)
great review Shane, and beautiful girl (is she single)...hahaha. I want a camera i can TRUST! 99% of the time, when manuel focus is not an option. BTW, in your recent videos, you keep looking away from the camera, what´s up with that ??, very distracting :-(.........FOCUS MAN ! ......hahaha, Merry Chrismas from Denmark (former Panasonic fanboy, NOW! Sony...heheh)
The autofocus does a good job and for me, I don't live and die by the autofocus. It does a good enough job plus all the benefits of the camera outweighs the negatives. All the best to you too RepairGuyDK! Hope you have a great Xmas :)
I've had the GH5s for one month and I am very impressed so far!

Thanks for your review...has helped me decide to buy a GH5s, thank you
It's a great camera. I recently got the Panasonic S5 to compare to the GH5s and I still prefer the GH5s overall. I hope you enjoy it.

It's probably the strap tabs on the side of the body. It shouldn't make any rattling noises.
Ha! I didn't know you had another channel! Threw me to hear your voice and not see a lefty guitarist! Awesome.
Haha. :) Many thanks I have a few channels floating around on here. Cheers mate, hope you're well.

haha. The running joke is how bad this shirt is. I put a thing on screen you clearly missed. Have a great day.

@@NeroMC haha oops GH5 x 2 :)
This would be the perfect camera for video if It had a global shutter and more dynamic range.
The dynamic range is really solid on this when shooting VlogL. 9 stops is about as much as most people will need for shooting video.
@@GeekyNerdyTechyit maybe ok for pale skin people but not great for those with a darker skin tone.
can I buy a used it has 10000 chuttercount how many can it take
It's a mirrorless camera so shutter count isn't something to worry about generally speaking.
Panasonic GH5S has back-illuminated sensor, unlike Panasonic GH5 ii.
FYI - BAD shirt for video! Love everything else!
thats insane its that much wider... wow

Yup! That's why I wore it. People love it. 🤣
very good

G9 is better than both with the firmware update. But as soon as I can afford it Im off to the S1h and S1R. The two best cameras available.
The G9 is a really good camera and has the great stabilization but to say it's a better camera than a GH5S for video is not at all accurate.
You could have done that review under a minute 😉
haha not a chance BUT I might try :) haha
