    Oh, my goodness. I geeked out so much on this one. I've really enjoyed my GH5S with Speedbooster. Totally the best at home video rig out there. I do miss the stabilization, but that's only when I go wandering outside of my room to film (which is super rare). I have found that my colors have looked great on the GH5s as well. I haven't had any sort of comments of the green look since I switched over.
    Once again, another fantastic video. I appreciate your work, friend!

    Excellent comparison! This is the first time I've seen someone do an overlapping comparison and then an expanded view like this.
    The more I look at the GH5S, the more it looks like my next camera, as an upgrade from the GH4.

    Just "Subscribed" to your channel. Awesome work Caleb... A lot of work you put in and is appreciated... I would LOVE to see this same comparison between the GH5s and the new Sony A7iii. I'm torn between the GH5s and the A7iii. (I would use neither for photos, only video on a Ronin relying heavily on auto focus)
    Here are a few comparisons that I would love to see between the GH5s and the A7iii that I think would help a lot of us:
    1. A side-by-side "autofocus" test between the GH5s (with the latest firmware and the 179 shutter hack) and the Sony A7iii.
    2. The GH5s 10-bit 422 (highest bit rate) vs the A7iii 8-bit both 1080 and 4K (for dynamic range, banding, etc)
    3. External out analysis from both cameras to an Atomos / Odyssey 7Q+ highest bit rate / color profile possible.
    Keep up the great work!

    Awesome video man! I was dead set on purchasing the GH5 for some time, but I thought I noticed those slight color differences that you proved. The GH5S really does look better. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison of the color science and tests between the A7III when that's released and the GH5S. I'm more comfortable using Panasonic and I've heard grading S Log footage from Sony can be a headache, so I'm curious if it's gotten any better and worth the switch.

  • @KarrGalaxyStudios
    @KarrGalaxyStudios 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting. Thanks Caleb for all your hard work in testing here! As a creator myself i know how much work goes into it!
    My thoughts... I have a feeling this is simply due to the change in sensor technology or calibration of the LUTs to the new sensor. It could be possible for Panasonic to release a firmware update to fix this in a future release. I would welcome a skin tone adjustment in firmware on the GH5 - Especially for VLOG-L as this would help in post more!
    It is interesting to note that the GH5 with a speedbooster produces a higher pixel resolution image in comparison to the GH5s and is more inline with Super 35 equivalency when shooting Film due to the GH5 downscaling of the sensor! The GH5s doesn't do this because it doesn't have the extra Megapixels to downscale with but it does have larger pixels which take in more light and produce less noise effects much more like a Fullframe camera so its getting those benefits (ie LOW LIGHT performance is better).
    For all those contemplating the purchase... Here are my reasons for choosing the GH5 over the GH5s:
    1. Lower price
    2. In body image stabilization and onsensor stabilization (+Anamorphic IBIS!)
    3. Anamorphic and open gate shooting modes - I use anamorphic from time to time.
    4. Higher resolution image over the GH5s in good lighting due to downscaling internally on the GH5
    5. Slow motion footage is fantastic at 4K48, 4K60, 1080p120 (180 max but doesn't look that great)
    6. I also Shoot photography and need some of those features.
    Buy the GH5s If you need:
    1. Low light performance
    2. Higher frame rates than GH5 - 1080p240 (versus a max of 180fps in GH5)
    3 shooting fast moving or vibration sensitive shots where the IBIS is inhibiting.
    4. Need slightly wider angles on your Fullframe adpated lenses, i can definintely see an advantage here for things like interior shots!
    But personally if you are going to spend that much more or already have a GH5, save up and wait for the Sony A7S3 when its released if you need a Fullframe Low light camera (unless you want to stay in panasonic ecosystem entirely). I always recommend using the right tool for the job.
    Hope that helps!

  • @JamesJacksonFilmz
    @JamesJacksonFilmz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Video man. Yeah the crop reduction is a great addition. I have the XL speed booster version (.64x you were referring to) and if my math is correct, the Crop on the GH5s is now a 1.15x crop. It would be interesting to see the a6500 with it's speedbooster compared to the XL version on the GH5s to see which one comes closer to the full frame look.
    I said it in my video review of the GH5s. This camera is a game changer for Micro 4/3rds and I believe will really reshape alot of peoples prejudices regarding micro 4/3rds system. Also with the low light capability, it makes lenses like the Olympus 12-100mm f4, which I wouldn't consider before on previous M43 cameras, now as a serious versatile option for event work.
    I also noticed the color science difference. It's very similar to canon's color science. I'm holding no regrets on my GH5s purchase.

    @HelpUsSaveLives ปีที่แล้ว

    A great video about the comparisons. I am especially encouraged (if not downright shocked, to see how much difference the speed boosters make in the field of view, which again, affects crop. My question is do you see any difference in the sharpness of the image with or without the speedbooster? You asked about lighting in the other video. In this one, I would put a light in front of your face to light the area from the top of your eyes to the hat, which is very dark.

    • @mazurindependentfilmmaking2713

    I'm shooting anamorphic with a Nikon 50mm pancake lens as my wide angle on a 2x scope. I'm definitely getting a vignette on the GH5S now. I normally use the XL booster but had to swap it for the Ultra. Even with the Ultra I still crop in 10% to get rid of the vignette now.

    Hey Caleb, if the pictures of the field of view comparison at 5:00 are correct than the Sony a6500 (4th place) and GH5 with Speedbooster (5th place) must change places.
    I checked your pictures and even zoomed in on a screenshot. There is definetly a wider field of view on the GH5 with speedbooster picture. Compare the 4 squares on the grey card and you can see it. Still a very good informative video!

    This is an excellent comparison - thanks for all your work on this. You mentioned 10-bit 4:2:2 -- do you know of any software that will allow you to view and trim 10-bit 4:2:2 without rendering? I'm using MPEG Streamclip for that purpose on 8-bit, but it won't play 10-bit, and I'd love to take advantage of 10-bit, but having to render just to trim is too much overhead. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
