ABOUT ME
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
- My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

When this released, they did only like 1 stage and then the blonde girl whos voice you liked (wendy, the main vocal) had an accident and fell off a 8 ft stage and broke lots of bones including her pelvis, wrist and cheekbones. She took around a year break to recover and she's finally back!

Okay, so you've watched Monster, Naughty, & Psycho, these are their "Velvet" side. Their "Red" side is weird, but in the most perfect way. Just be prepared. Red examples, "Zimzalabim", "RBB (Really Bad Boy)", "Dumb Dumb", "Happiness", etc.

Red Velvet is different in terms of musicality and concept, one of the most versatile group in this era, in other words; you never know what will you get because they never stay the same. The girl with the white hair you liked her voice is Wendy now they came out with psycho during 2020 New years and during thier SBS live stage performance promo after their dance, wendy fell 6 ft or 9 ft from backstage and injured her pelvis, face and her whole body because the staff forgot to put the stairs so RV had to perform 2020 without her and we finally got her back this new years during the sm free live humanity concert again and we are all happy she has healed and back with the girls again :) I hope this will be a good year for the girls without anyone getting hurt!
Red Velvet vocals are insane. Seulgi could be the main vocalist in any other group, but she is the lead vocalist because Wendy is the main vocalist of RV. They are idolized by other idols.

I think it would be best if you react to them in chronological order to see the evolution of their music from their debut "Happiness" on 2014, on 2015 they added Yeri to the group and released their first mini album, up to the debut of their first sub unit last year. :D Their second single on 2014 is a remake of S.E.S' "Be Natural". Their songs and concepts are really versatile. They are known as the Bside masters too and they don't do the same concept twice. So you don't really know what they release next. Just recently (Blonde one hitting those notes) Wendy has come back after recovering for a whole year after an accident that happened...Just this month,she came back it’s honestly felt like forever, shes the main vocalist of the group:)

I tend to hear ppl say RV don’t have stage presence or they’re boring because they don’t have swag or throw adlibs in all the time. Like no, RV are amazing performers with so much talent and charisma while pulling off different concepts. Along with the high quality productions created by SM, Red Velvet are ARTISTS.

Not an insult - but a lot of people think they're OG if they got into kpop 5 years ago. Many, many don't know modern "kpop" started in almost 30 years ago in 92/93 (before they were born) partially because it started when the internet was just really getting traction. Plus so many new groups debut every year! I love that 4th gen is bringing it to the world and riding the Hallyu wave strong!

@@ogkpopstan I was in Atlanta and we were still calling it the "World Wide Web" Lol. I could not imagine trying to download vids via dial up! but anyways - dig your perspective. You started during the times I stopped. (I missed a lot and found it again around the time just before I had breast cancer, going through treatment.) It's has helped with the healing.
As someone who's been into kpop since 2015, I'd laugh if anyone said I was an OG fan. Like yes I might have gotten into it slightly before it started to REALLY grab popularity around the world (kpop has always been popular globally especially since 2nd gen), and I might love and enjoy the artists and music from even the 90s, but I can't say I'm an OG stan. To me, the OG fans will always be the ones who got into kpop when 2nd gen came around and before. Maybe for the new baby fans, 2015 seems like its OG, but It most definitely isnt lol (at least to me)
@@ateezismyboba8158 I have to admit too ... that I think part of the mindset (and again, it wasn't intended to invalidate anyone's experience. I just appreciate that Thina's reactions mean a lot to me because she knew 2nd gen artists) ... but K-music production, artists make SUCH enormous impact that many might mark their life PRE-kpop and POST. Music has such power - and the scale they work with - from training, to production, to style, to choreo, to fan content. It really is a force that can move you. Again there was a BIG gap for me after Tseotaiji ... but especially going through cancer - the music, the groups (idols, bands, r&B, etc) helped me in so many ways!) We need as much good as possible these days!
My college GF got me hooked on BoA around 2003. Dropped off until I had Dreamcatcher's Goodnight pop up in playlist one night about two years ago. I don't consider myself an OG since I really didnt keep up with the genre for so many years. But to be honest if it wasent for Dreamcatcher, Day6, Mamamoo, KARD and now Rolling Quartz I really don't think I would be back.

I really hope we get a comeback soon. Wendy resumed dance practice a month ago almost a year after she was severely injured when she fell from the stage on Christmas day 2019 while rehearsing for SBS's Christmas show. Other groups also had trouble with the stage which was very slippery.

After this came out, RV did a couple stages and then Wendy, the blonde, was severely injured in a fall from a stage platform. One year later, she has finally healed and returned. The "we'll be ok" at the end, especially when Wendy comes out from behind the dress, has always had a special meaning.

I fell in love with this song a few months ago and barely got into K-Pop early 2020. You make me feel better about being 31 being into the genre. Nice review as always, big sis. You continue to make me get hyped again about the songs I love.
I'm 32, got started into kpop three years ago. Now I'm following 15+ girl groups, lol. It's a fun journey, but Red Velvet definitely IMO stand out with their concept, like Dreamcatcher, Loona, and a few others, they essentially have their own genre. You just know it's RV instantly

ok, bro, I love this video. Well for one, the song slaps. But mainly for the advice you give about love. It just hits so deep as love is such a complicated topic and can be shown in so many forms. That the "ideal love" we look for isn't necessarily real. But going through the struggle and the hard times together are what make a really strong relationship. Your insight is very impactful for me and this song and your comments have made me reevaluate my idea of love and what I think of when I picture it.

absolutely love red velvet and genuinely think they are one of a kind gg. they're well known for always never repeating concepts and not being afraid to step out of comfort zones and going outside of the box. Their b-sides and titles are very well received by critics and music experts. Personally, they have one of my favorite discographies in kpop. Their vocals and harmonies are no joke and their unique songs are really refreshing to me. I'm excited to hear your opinion on more of their stuff and if you have time their live rendition of this song with all 5 members @Reve Festival Finale is amazing and really showcases their live singing capabilities

Hey it's okay the important thing is to keep loving life with your love ones so I'm glad your now better than before. This song was my first introduction to red velvet so its very meaningful to me. Glad you love it as much as me. This MV is one of my favs. The outfits, the song, is all amazing.
I haven't finished watching this reaction yet, but wow our lives. I've been into K-pop since 2008. Then I had health problems galore in 2013 culminating in a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. I didn't get hardcore back into K-pop until maybe a year and change ago? Like, around when ITZY's ICY came out. (They quickly became my faves because of their messages.) And I started doing reaction videos like a month ago because I want to share that with people now.
So basically I'm saying that I love that we have so many points of connection because I do feel like I understand where you're coming from. Hope your dog is doing better today!

psycho became kind of a carry on/comfort song for reveluvs i think esp after wendy’s accident and everything that happened in 2020, the fandom really connected to it especially the repetition of “hey now we’ll be okay”. it’s such a beautiful song and it’s so great seeing all the girls back together after a whole year without wendy❤️❤️❤️
