      Z1 was great with shipping that’s why I was quick to jump on these and the reviews weren’t terrible. Maybe the leaks are more prevalent when you have a decent volume exhaust.

      I recommend swapping them out for concept z extra thick gasket. Rtv won't hold up for long

      @@ERICSDIYGARAGE what I’m getting is the issue with these gaskets is that the require and absolute flat surface to work properly. Issue is that it’s never mentioned and they shouldn’t be advertised as replacement gaskets if that’s the case. Exhaust hot, metal warps slightly when hot.

    Just installed their test pipes, the O2 flage bone leaking...plus the gaskets. Thanks for making this vid and affirming my leaks from Z1

    You're right on with this! I had this problem with their gasket and even spoke to them about it. They were playing dumb saying they haven't heard of this issue and that my flange must be warped. Switched to the Fast intentions composite gasket and no more leak. Fast forward to now and I have a leak even after I put a new fast intentions gasket. I might go the CZP route, or was thinking of doing the RTV ultra copper route that people have done.
    I saw a video where a guy uses the oem o ring type gasket for the cat to header gasket and he had test pipes. But I thought the Oem o ring cannot be used with and aftermarket converter....

      @@ERICSDIYGARAGE you are right, they made really good parts but not everything is great. Their CSC delete is known to be bad (I purchased one and luckily sold it before installing).
      I went with my boosted G37 (see my videos) to get an issue fixed and they masked the issue, never actually fixed it. It ended up making big power and much better than it was before, but not fixed as I expected. They helped, but didn't actually solved my issue.
      I went with another tuner (remote e-tune) who took HOURS to explain me a lot of things, and if I need help he will spend as much time as needed to continue helping me without asking for extra money. I had high hopes for Z1 but they are just another place for Z and G, a good one but not the best as some people think.

    • @ERICSDIYGARAGE
      @ERICSDIYGARAGE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't believe the gaskets are the issue they say it's warped flanges. If that's the case everyone has warped flanges

  • @drizzetsrevenge
    @drizzetsrevenge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You're having these issues because your exhaust flanges are warped. Metal gaskets don't really crush, that's part of the reason they're so durable. I've had them on both of my cars for nearly 100k miles collectively, and haven't ever had them leak.
    If you're getting composite gaskets to seal but metal gaskets aren't, you should quit overtightening your exhaust hardware and warping your flanges.

    • @ERICSDIYGARAGE
      @ERICSDIYGARAGE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a hard time believing that all my flanges on my car are warped. 1:09 you can hear both the header flange and the y pipe flange leaking. Let me just remind you that I installed a new isr y pipe and test pipes so your saying they are Also warped? before I had the stock cats on with the circle metal o ring and the flange never leaked.

    • @drizzetsrevenge
      @drizzetsrevenge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ERICSDIYGARAGE warped flanges from test pipe to manifold are very common to see warp. They're long flanges, and welding produces a lot of heat around the entire flange. Cheaply made test pipes almost always have flanges that aren't warped before you even install them. The fact that yours are ISR almost guarantees this. Part of the reason they use those composite fiber gaskets is because they crush when the flanges are tightened, and seal better when crushed.

    • @drizzetsrevenge
      @drizzetsrevenge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As yourself this: if your flanges are true and so is the gasket, why did it leak?
      The only answer is that something wasn't flat. That's how exhaust escapes. There HAS to be a path, or it doesn't leak, and those gaskets certainly weren't gouged, bent, or damaged. 100% your flanges were the issue.

    • @xan_z3428
      @xan_z3428 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@drizzetsrevenge yeah the z1 gasket isn’t flat like it needs to be. They have rigid edges and too much of a lip allowing air through them because the gasket sticks to far out on the lip. Which hints why air gets through them… and also he has explained why air gets through them already and also if you recalled right. Z1 themselves even said you need a copper piece for it if it does not seal which is not included with the gasket…

    damn I have been told by mechanics it's a good idea to use RTV along with your metal gaskets anyways. Maybe you're both right, the gasket should seal better but using RTV also is not a bad idea and that's not just Z's or Z1 gaskets

But when I took it to a shop they took a quick look for a leak and said they don't think it's an exhaust leak from what I did. It makes almost like a hissing sound after you rev the car.
