I needed this today. I'm rebuilding in a new state and it is so difficult. I have received incredible advice this week from a fellow photographer who's been around for 7ish years. I have a lot of work to do still. Katelyn, you have helped me so much. I really have to push past my ADHD and get to work again because I took a day off. Thank you!!
Lots of good advice here! I was struggling with this since my editing has changed and improved, but I wanted to showcase the work I’ve done throughout the years. Thanks for the reminder that less is more!
I loved this type of teaching . I haven't found anyone to do this . I want to expand on becoming a high end family photographer, but I don't find a market that seems to be interested in family photos anymore . Unless they're using their camera on their phones.
Great tips. I immediately went and changed my portfolio after watching this. It also demonstrates the power of getting someone else to look at your work.
While the photos themselves were definitely powerful, other factors that made the end result feel more high end (from a web design perspective) were: the extra white space around the photos that felt more balanced and intentionally proportioned, the fact that the photos appeared to be the feature rather than the background of the header, that the photos were complete instead of weirdly cropped from being a background, and that the logo (which does not feel very high end) faded away instead of being highlighted.
Thanks Katelyn! Wonderful example of a simple but so effective changes. I would love to see more of the editing tweaks as that's my most frustrating area with colour casts & general consistency (which I'm sure is in your course also!) thanks again!
So helpful! Your advice is so spot on. For me, I have been in the habit of just throwing what I thought were great images on my web site. However, I got from your advice that they should flow. And, sometimes less is more. Thank you! Jay
Nice Video, sis! This is the thing I struggle with the MOST in my business is my Website. 🤦🏾♂️ I can convince a whale to buy water in selling my services, but my website needs work and these tips are a great start. Thank you! 🙏🏾
Trying to establish my style and will eventually try and create a website...these tips and tricks are super helpful! When you are just starting out it's hard sometimes to trust yourself.
I love this so much! Inspires me to go fix my website asap. I’ve been wanting to up my prices but wasn’t sure how to best do it so glad this is the right direction🙌🏽
This was super helpful. Ive been thinking the same thing about my website. This confirms what i've been thinking. Im glad im learning more from your all access group. I was predicting that the photo that ended up being black and white should probably be black and white and then you did it. Def made me feel good. I would love for you to use my website in a demo for how to elevate it aas well! I live in michigans upper peninsula and its absoultey gorgeous. Its more of a tourist destination near pictured rocks. So my audience is more elopements/suprise engagements, updates family photos while here on vacation. I've only had a couple planned weddings and they've all had that elopement vibe where they only want me to shoot for a few hours because they want a quickie ceremony and be done. Makes it very challenging to have time to get any detail shots. I end up staying way longer to make time for details and basically end up donating my time. I have one full coverage all day wedding booked for a year from now and im still trying to figure out how to professionally be an active and structured part of that day as far as photography goes. your all access is helping me soooooo much! Thank you so much!!!!!
Love all of this. I just found you. A quick question- you are taking about even lighting across the board. Do you think that a Rembrandt style lighting with a darker background is less high end? Thanks for your time and advice!!!❤
Love your content, I have recently come across your site. I do a few portrait jobs and a handful of weddings and have found your content beneficial, Thank you so much!
Well done Video. i liked the Layout perspectives and photo priorities and how to present yourself as a photographer on a homepage. I liked you showed how you would edit the photos to get an consistent "look" and style. I'm not a wedding photographer, I shot art and street photos in black and white, but I learned something new today regarding presentation. I wish and your husband all the best. My own photos are on my Facebook site. Kind regards from Copenhagen, Denmark
This is great! I would really love some help on my website! I live in a very small town, with lots of "beginner" photographers charging next to nothing. I've been a full-time professional photographer for 4 years now. I make just enough to pay my bills. I would really love to book more consistently and stay booked.
I completely agree! I dont know why people dont hire me, i cant seem to get any clients after almost 6 years. Im to the point of quiting because no one hires me to take photos, i dont even know my worth. So i havent ever charged
This was REMARKABLE! Can you create a course or a YT video giving step-by-step instructions on how to legally receive payment for photo/video work, save for taxes, and file taxes?
One note also in the senior portion - I hope she is reading this. Do not post anything illegal on your website! (train tracks). There are some museums and such, but people see this and think it is an ok thing to do. It is actually trespassing if you are not in a special cut off museum space. Live tracks, and even dead connected tracks are all on private property. You can get a fine if caught! Of course, we don't need to talk about the dangers that go along with it. But as photographers where tons of people see our work, it is our responsibility to promote safe sessions. That new photographer coming in may not realize train tracks are in fact illegal... my cousin even had her daughter do senior photos on live tracks. Cannot tell you the rukus that caused when I tried to educate them about the legality of it all.

I always use the before and after view (YY button) right before I finish an edit then make tweaks if necessary to see them side by side.
Love the upgraded video quality! I can really tell that you all are leveling up!!
The speed you went through the lightroom sliders at 9:30, wow.
Would love more of these website critiques!!
Love the advice, I am in the process of building my portfolio and now I will be able to streamline the ideas for my photoshoots much better.

You are amazing!
Thank you
Whats the hosting site
Is this squarespace?
it's been almost a month since you posted this video. why did she not take your advice? The photos you suggested to get rid of are still in her website.
This was a really good.
Meme photos should not be part of the main portfolio. I have learned that the hard way. Pick the best photos all the way.
I need someone to do this for my website!
More website critiques please''!
Love it!
Great but if she can’t edit the photo’s the way you do her clients are being deceived.
Sorry, but this photographer's work is not very good.
