    I was literally just thinking “gosh…I feel like such an amateur…maybe I should quit this whole official business thing…” thanks for your encouragement at the end. Its so daunting looking at how good the real pros are and feeling like im never going to be that good. Thanks for the thought at the end where you said you were given this passion for a reason. Thanks girl! ❤️ ps just finished your lighting course and currently taking your business class. They are both excellent!!

    Yr very inspirational! I was a wedding videographer for over 20 years even though my passion was photography, after an operation on both shoulders I stopped for a while and for the past 3 to 4 years I've been doing photography on the side. Now that I'm almost 55 yrs old I still have that passion and want to keep going as a photographer but but maybe as a second shooter, or maybe I'll become a landscape photographer who knows. Your video's are very helpful so thank you for everything you do, I'll be looking forward to your next up coming video's!

    Great advice. I started my current business 20 years ago in a partnership with family who had started other businesses and made all the mistakes already. Your advice applies to so many other fields beyond photography. #3 especially is so very very vital. GET LEGAL. It's not just for the tax and law issues, but because it conveys credibility to potential clients and suppliers, while also separating your personal assets from your business assets (vital if sued or going bankrupt). I would add two other professionals you need though: 1. After a lawyer and an accountant, get insurance. Get property insurance, of course, but get liability insurance too - and make sure it covers what you do, and the potential risks that could wipe you out. If you are a location shooter, make sure you have authorized driver coverage for you, your vehicle, and your vehicle contents while traveling for work - AND any paid assistants and their vehicles. 2. If you are going to directly hire anyone, find a good payroll service. Payroll laws today are a nightmare, and contracting that out covers you. Depending on how you set your business up too, this may also include using the payroll service to pay yourself.

    Great video with very useful tips! I had a bit of LOL moment when you said practicing on your cat isn't going to get you anywhere, as practicing on my cat got me (or rather: my cat) 300k followers & started my business. But I get what you're saying about getting out there and I need to do that more now that I want to branch out of, well, photographing my cat.

    When you spoke of investing into gear, a major problem I have popped out on my mind.
    I want to get into Wedding Photography (and other fields of photography, hopefully after I graduate), I watched a few of your other videos, and I'm brand new to photography in general. Right now all I got is a Canon 90D and a Sigma 18-35 (when I first got this setup, I thought I'd be doing TH-cam studio style videos, but I genuinely enjoy shooting stills 100x more), and with Canon's RF Line coming up, I don't want to invest into a set of glass that will go obsolete in a few years down the line (EF Glass), but I also can't mount an RF Lens on a 90D.
    What would you recommend I would do in this case? I want to invest into something for the long run, but I'm also short on cash. Hope that didn't come off as complacent :)

    I just like to start to take photos and one of the thing that I wanna do is macros. You know, close up of plants, flowers and insects. I'm a student so my budget is really tight. I'd like to do macro photos with some lenses or adapter, but lenses are quite expensive. I haven't bought a bag or anything to store my camera (canon eos rebel t7) or futur lenses. Any idea of a budget gadget to get for macro photo? I'm a student in art and photography will be taught to me and I'd like to get a bit in advance so I'll ace it.

    I just paid a lot of sales tax this past quarter. It sucked, but its worth it for peace of mind of knowing I'm legit. It makes me mad when I know people that aren't legit, but oh well, worry about yourself, right!

    It never even crossed my mind that someone who hadn't already mastered photography would even consider becoming a wedding photographer.

    • @longliveclassicmusic
      @longliveclassicmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's because you are not a gatekeeper. No one asked you what they should do. Grown people can provide or pay for whatever services they want in whatever way they want. Instead of worrying about someone who hasn't mastered photography considering becoming a wedding photographer, how about worrying about yourself? Katelyn provides resources for real people doing real things, not hypothetical sims in your fantasy land. That's all anyone is here for: HER value.

      I did my first wedding as a favor/gift to a friend. I got so many calls afterward I just started charging. I got so many calls after that I started charging more. THEN I put an education toward my natural ability. Also, MANY people in the R&R hall of fame had NO formal education in music.
