Oh man, first off, I just want to say my heart goes out to you guys. I have walked in your shoes, it's a rough road full of difficult decisions. If it would help, I wouldnt mind making you a video response sharing with you our story, but if I may suggest a book,it's called: "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders: by Dr. Bock. It helped us so much after weaning our son from meds after a horrible spiral downwards.

I was dignosed with ADD/ADHD as a child and was put on meds, but only during the school year my parents would wean me off of them for the summer, I remember being able to concentrate better, and do my work so im all for it because it helped me, im in my 20's now and dont take meds for it at all. He may be able to control it as he gets older, I still have moments where i forget things or what ever but its managable. I hope this helps!

Cont.. she had been doing in school for the past couple of weeks and that her focus has been awesome. I then told her she was on meds. I immediately saw the difference in Skyler the 1st day that she was on it. As the dr told me, the meds basically just shut off the noises that are all around and allow her to focus on what she is doing. She is now on Focalin b/c the Vyvanse made her lose almost 8 lbs in the time she was on it. That's the con is that they lose their appetite. :( .....

Cont....But all in all putting her on meds has truly made a difference!! Sorry this was so long. I guess I should have just messaged you! lol I hope ya'll figure everything out. Being where ya'll are, I totally know the frustration of it all.

What ya'll are going through with Parker is exactly what we went through with my 8 year old. She was constantly getting bad faces in school, getting notes that she wasn't staying focused and had to be redirected. When we spoke with the doctor and she mentioned putting her on meds, I literally cried. I was exactly like you and didn't want her on medication. I was scared that it would change her personality and she would become dependent upon on. The doctor assured me that it wouldn't.....cont.

Cont..So the doctor put her on Vyvanse. We put her on meds in Nov. of 2012. I decided to keep it to myself and not tell her teacher b/c I wanted her to see the difference without knowing that she was on anything. (She also repeated kindergarten already). I went in for a meeting at school b/c my daughter was already in an early intervention program they have at the school who need a little more attention b/c they are behind and need more 1 on 1. When I went in, her teacher told me how great....

Have you tried cutting out food dyes? A friend recently did this for 2-3 months with her son & saw a HUGE difference. I am sure that you have but just wanted to suggest it. It is always hard to give your children medicine, but sometimes it is needed when all other resources have been exhausted. My cousin did medication through the week but was off of it on the weekend, breaks, and over the summer. I hope the transition goes smoothly.

My son has ADHD, diagnosed at 6, he's 8 now. He also has a lot of sensory issues. ADHD is tough work!
