In this video, we debunk myths, explore culture's role, and unveil the secrets behind those numbers. This video also sheds light on the harsh consequences that not many talk of. We rewind the scenes, interview the experts, and paint a picture beyond the scale with some interesting stories from three women to answer one important question "Why are Indian women fatter than men?"

Women's anxiety and waistline is proportional to how society treats them. Patriarchal countries in Middle East, India, USA etc women are ill treated sending them into fat storing mode. Their role is reduced to kitchen where they eat food full day. They don't have a life beyond that. Food is their escape.
Women in Europe, East Asia, Scandinavian countries are the thinnest but men of those societies are feminists and treat women well so that's why their women glow.

In Spain, I used to eat a mostly protein rich diet and walk 3-4 kilometres every day. In a protein-rich diet, I ate chole mostly with avocado and veggies. It was so good. Sometimes, I used eggs or chicken in the mixture. But chole was like the most important part with no additional spices. Just chole, salt, pepper and Spanish paprika. And then, as I started eating this regularly, I found that my hunger pangs started disappearing and I started loving this diet a lot more.

I have both PCOD and hypothyroid which is a deadly combo. You can't even imagine how hard it is to lose weight.
Edit: I have this problem from my school days and yes,I have consulted many doctors ( ayurvedic, allopathy and homeopathy) and I have eaten so much medicine that now I hate medicine. I have done exercise in the past and lost some weight. But it is too hard to maintain it. And I am preparing for competitive exams so I can't give too much time on workouts. I cannot do HIIT workouts because I feel my body is not ready for high intensity and high pace workout. I generally eat home cooked meals 3 times a day. I don't eat outside very often. To be honest I feel annoyed sometimes due to my weight. Yup, but I am trying my best to keep myself moving. Because this is the only thing I can do. I recently started a workout program from Chloe. So I can work on my strength 💪. Girls who have the Pcos and thyroid, keep fighting.
Thanks for understanding the pain and for suggestions. 😄

I am from south india. My weight was 49 kg at 26 years. Then i went to the usa and ate a lot of junk food, came back with 53 kg. I exercised and reduced it to like 50 kg. Then as i entered 30s my comfortable weight became 52 kg and i was in good shape. At 32 I became pregnant and by the end of pregnancy, I was 70 kg. Currently 3 months post delivery and i am 61 kg. Started getting back to my old routine calisthenics and cardio exercises. Also, eating only healthy food now that my pregnancy cravings have gone. My resolution is to get back to my old 52 kg weight with more muscles and less fat.

I'm a student of class 11th and I can conform one reason for this that is I have seen and felt that boys are always forward for any sports activity where as girls are not encouraged to do that. In my school from my primary school time, teachers didn't encourage girls to play football, cricket, kabbade, basketball etc games rather than that they told us to sit in the shade of a tree and to play something which can be played while sitting. I really hate this mindset of teachers and who ever has this mindset. Me and my friends always want to play volleyball, football and we also took permission from teachers but then what comes is the boys of our class they always rule on the ground and on volleyball and net as well.

This is an eye-opener for those who think women's fattiness is solely attributed to their food-eating choices and habits. Most men (including me), subconsciously (no matter how many biological issues - hormonal balance and thyroid, etc.) you hear of these things. Despite all of this, your mind goes one point - 'women eating food.' I feel so sorry for my wife- when she says you eat a lot but you still look thin, but when I eat even a little, I do walking, doing household work...still, I remain fat. Women's body is different - I get it, added there is medical confusion, adulterated food (milk, oil etc) surrounded by so many issues. Right video in current times.

Getting into shape and remaining like that is a LIFE LONG project......not something that you do for just a few weeks/months and go back to your previous lifestyle.
People are ready to work 12+ hours to climb the corporate ladder BUT don't seem to give a fuck about how they look....both from an attraction as well as health pov.
Just walking and house work does not work.....as can be seen by almost everyone who spouts this nonsense.
Spending 1+ hour EVERY DAY of the week in regular disciplined excercise that includes free body weight, dumbbells and cardio for AT LEAST 2 years will give you the desired results.....just like working hard in office for a couple of years gives you the desired results there.
There are no shortcuts and housework will not give you the results that you are expecting.

Very important points that you missed that made me as a girl stop playing.
I was a hyper active child, like i would climb, dance, run around
And then puberty came and it changed my body
I used to play a lot with my female friends and we used to play all kinds of running and jumping games, once we hit puberty, and started to develop women like bodies and I felt very shameful while running and jumping around and we all girls automatically stopped playing.
During college playtime, boys would occupy the entire playing ground and us girls would had to sit or play badminton in a corner because if we run with our "developed bodies", men wouldn't stop staring.
Once when I was 14, I went running to my mom on the street with joy because I was seeing her after a long time, my mom told me not to run as people would stare as I am now grown up and she wasn't wrong, because they do stare
Even in anime, you would see young girls jumping and moving sexualised a LOT.
    And I wonder why women don't exercise 🤔 🙄
( compared to other counties as he said in the video, we tend to gain weight fast, so above mentioned isn't just Indian women issue but worldwide one, it's that we gain weight faster thats why effects are seen more in us.)

We should also talk about body frames and evolution.
Indians generally tend to have a shorter body frame compared to Europeans or Africans, with skinnier bone structure. Most Indians fall into the phenotype of "Gracile Indid"(typical light-boned individuals). This implies, we as Indians hold significantly less amount of muscle-mass naturally compared to Westerners. So, the %age of fat gain is higher in us.
Also, I read somewhere, since Indians have suffered so many famines, we have developed some genetic strategy to store fat around abdomen over millenias. And may be since women bear children, they store more of this fat which ensured better survival of babies during famines.

As an Indian woman i can say we have less stress before marriage. After marriage even if the woman is working she is expected to do all the house work take care of husband kids and in laws too. Bro you omitted some very important facts:
    1) Women/girls don't get enough access to play freely in the ground, just like boys are privileged. That's why we need reservation because whatever is not reserved for girls, men just assume those to be reserved for us. Few years back I read an article about some teen girls cannot practice football because boys just occupying the whole ground. Girls can not even go outside just to roam around, cycle, swim etc just like boys. The main reasons are men occupying them(as they don't have to do much work at home), getting stared, teased, raped, molested in public places and many more.
    2) It's NEVER like urban women work less, rather the case is totally opposite, they cannot have enough time for themselves. While men take time for themselves simply ignoring their duties, women cannot( or better say they do not).
    3) The point where you said 'if they don't get enough time to exercise, they should not get time to eat junk food'. So let me correct you, exercises should be regular, parties are once in a while. Everyone needs to get some recreation, so these are not comparable.
    4) So many women don't get sufficient nutritious food, due to parental favoritism towards the male kid.
P.S- it is not your place to cry about 'not all men' etc etc, if you want to prove yourselves, just prove in real life(in case anyone thinking about replying). Because facts are facts, I don't care how truths make you feel.

Beautiful video! I agree with most points but what I have noticed in people/patients/my clients who have successfully lost and maintained their weight loss is that they do not think they are the victims of all the issues like PCOD, hypothyroidism and anxiety/depression. Even if they suffer from those conditions, they never give up. They take control of their lifestyles by changing their environment to make healthier options more feasible. They make small changes for life. They put time into studying about nutrition. They do not see food as carbs, fats and proteins but as naturally occurring food or manufactured food like substances. They know about calorie density. They know about a healthy balanced diet full of whole starches, vegetables, fruits and protein sources. They eat their favourite foods but they either control their portions or make it themselves or find better alternatives that they can stick to for life. They manage their anxiety and depression but many of my clients have told me they feel better mentally just cause they lost weight. They focus on things that help them have their backup of willpower.
Most importantly, they make the process easy. They don't blame themselves nor the diseases and strive to do better everyday.

As a girl who grew up obese and suddenly lost a lot of weight as soon as I left highschool the worst thing about our culture is that you're not only made fun of for your weight but also for your efforts to get into shape. When I was growing up in the early 2010s in South India, our movies and shows always had a stereotypical slightly obese woman or a skinny girl always on a diet or a weight loss regiment with other characters making fun of them. I've found that this trend has slowed down a bit but I personally felt victimized by it when I was a teenager because I was always trying to lose weight and people made fun of my efforts. I probably would've also developed an ED if it weren't for my parents who were in the medical field themselves and took care of my diet. Turns out a majority of the issues I had with weight were hormonal and I lost weight as soon as my hormones calmed down in my late teens.

As a woman, here are my two cents. Stress contributes a lot to weight gain among women. Especially among working Indian women of my generation (mid 20s to 30s). That also indirectly leads to binge eating, sleeping late and a general lack of motivation to do any physical activity thereby leading to PCOD which further worsens the aforementioned problems. It’s like a vicious cycle you can’t break or need tons of motivation and self discipline to break out of. In my office, I have generally noticed women getting fatter the more they age as compared to the men of their generation. That coupled with pregnancy and single handedly having to take care of their families since their husbands (most of the time) are too lazy to, leaves little time for them to do any self care. If you want the women in your lives to be fit and healthy, help them. Help them with some of the chores around the house so they have time to go for that walk or go to the gym. Motivate them, talk to them about how they look so much better when they are fit and healthy. Most menfolk are least bothered if their wives/mothers/sisters are happy and healthy and instead start comparing them with other women and mock them for being lazy. How about they try to understand the actual cause behind their obesity and ‘laziness’ and help them?
Edit: I can see I have triggered a lot of people in the comments section. Most of them Gen Z (with a few older gen sprinkled here and there). Not that I give a shit. But looks only last so long. At some point y’all need to accept yourselves the way you are and while I totally support following a healthy lifestyle, the current youth’s obsession with perfect bodies is reaching unhealthy levels.

All are very valid points. Glad you mentioned the reality of people getting their own house work done by housemaid. But then we have a tendency to find the physical work as fit for lower class. Work is just work, there is no class to it. While you dust or clean, your rooms, you are also cleaning your own cholesterol and fat in your body. Don't require any gym memberships.
I am randomly suggesting some more points. Feel free to like or dislike:
    1. Vegetarian diet of carbohydrates along with more dairy products may cause obesity.
    2. Sugar on top of a dairy diet increases obesity.
    3. Even the non-vegetarian diet of red meat like lamb, beef, etc. are high in fat/cholesterol. It may make people get massive body size, but it's actually choking your arteries too. Freshwater lean fishes are healthier source of protein.
4.We don't have dance as an activity anymore in our day to day lives. Whether it's Bhangra of Punjab or Bharatnatyam of South India, these are not practiced by general women and men. Maybe due to shyness or lack of opportunity to learn these.
    5. Sitting for hours in work/for entertainment leads to obesity.
    6. Sleeping very late past midnight ruins everything in our body that can lead to restoration of health by our bodies system. Obesity is also one of them.
Good that people can discuss these issues with better insight.

I m from Chhattisgarh rural area . Obesity problem in my Village would be only 2 to 3 percent . Here every adult is highly physically active in agriculture work . Due to which chances of getting ill is low too. They usually get up 3 to 4 in the morning except 3 months in winter and after working almost whole day they go to sleep by 9 to 10 at night. There is no gender problem, man and woman work equally hard most importantly together.

Not just glorification of fatness is a culture in our society, but the bullying, criticism, blatant shaming and mocking that we look like a kid for being thin, is very gravely normalized as 'careing' in our society when they force and guilt trip people into overeating. I have lot count of how many times people have dumped more servings of rice into my plate without asking me or even after I say no, and on top of that make sassy comments if I'm dieting and guilt tripping me into eating it. Almost all of us are bought up with strict principle to never waste even a single grain of rice and it's extremely difficult to waste food when they dump it on our plate, especially in someone else's home. I remember, that I used to force myself to eat more holding back the gagging, when I was younger. I still end up unconsciously doing it in some visits, but now the gag is like snap to reality and have learnt to stop there and feel no remorse to just get up.
Another big issue is, shaming of women moving around as 'immoral' by sexualizing their bodies. Girls hesitate to even give a good chase to catch up to a bus. PT classes disappear in Highschool as soon as most girls enter puberty, which is exactly where the whole issue begin.
We culturally osctracize women from physical activities as soon as they get their puberty and then push them into either kitchen or books. I'm wondering if there is a similar skewed prevalence of shortsightedness in girls as well, because of this, since it has been shown that the epidemic of myopia was related to kids having less time outside away from closer books and screens.

@@abhinashpalai6600 she is right tho. It's basic biology and science. Women tend to store fat more in their hip area. And it's illogically normalised in the society that after giving birth, women gain weight. While it doesn't have to that way. Since human body is adaptable and after delivery, a woman can get her body back without getting fat.
Another obvious reason is women working in the household. Cause major duties like cooking, washing utensils and clothes was mostly done in sitting position. The more you compress your spine the more fat is stored in abdominal region. Literally the same logic why men working a corporate job or any job that requires sitting all day get that big belly. Especially after 35 years of age. Since metabolism naturally goes down and sitting whole day accumulates all the fat in abdomen.
Hence men and women in today's time are both aging gracefully cause going to gym, having physical activity and taking care of health is getting promoted. While the men and women who drink, sleep around or any other bad habits look trash even today. Women age like milk is just a myth cause they were never told or made aware to take care of their health. Cause marrying and having kids as the only life purpose they were conditioned too.
It's funny there are so many videos about male issues on this channel and nobody victim blames them when they share their problem. But whenever a woman or girl shares their side y'all first response is always to dismiss them and victim blame them. And then y'all cry about nobody cares about men. Kinda hypocritical, isn't it abhinash??

Superb video as always! I wanted to add further:
Barring those that gain weight due to medical issues that caused the gain and not vice versa.
The average women in India doesn’t play high energy sports, our idea of sports is PT classes every week in school where they made you play Kho Kho. Once you’re in college, all the activities stop completely.
Women naturally retain more body fat as a protection mechanism to the reproductive organs as they gestate a foetus. Add to that, India, especially the states you’ve mentioned, has a very carbohydrate and fat rich but protein deficient diet. Add the last 10 years, fast food joints like McDonald’s, kfc has become very popular, deep fried foods which further add to all this. Plus a lot of restaurant food, which has far easier access thanks to Swiggy and zomato, has food cooked in heavily saturated fats like vanaspati and butter.
Since Indians went through a period of massive famine and malnutrition, our bodies hold on to fat more, as a reserve. Most women find it impossible to go back to previous weight prior their middle age and pregnancy.
Indians are skinny fat. Foreign counterparts tend to store fat all through their body, while the sedentary Indian physique is thin dangly arms, weak legs and a potato body, which is a result of low muscle mass, because of low protein intake.
Add to all of the above, there has been a huge rise of alcohol consumption and smoking, which is like adding fuel to this fire.
The fast food industry and convenience, leading to addiction, is the cause.
Plus it doesn’t help that skinny shaming has been a thing in kids. Chubby kids are seen as sweet and more likeable.

Thanks for talking about this issue. I used to be body shamed for being mildly overweight during my teenage years. I felt depressed and had very little confidence. Later on, I started following fad diets and eating very little food since everyone around me body shamed me and asked me to eat less. It made me depressed, but didn't do anything to help me lose those extra pounds. Later, I started counting calories and macros with a fitness app, which made me lose 2 kg in a few months. This motivated me, and i started eating cleaner, avoiding sugar, and also started to move more. After a while, i dropped more than 10 kgs. I succeeded in having a flat belly, but i was still miserable. After graduation, i moved to Europe and started to slowly build a healthy body image and mindset. Eating more protein than my body weight in grams, moving around more and staying active throughout the day. Now, I have switched my state from getting fat by eating a chocolate to staying fit even by eating a burger 😂. The key is getting loads of protein and fiber in your diet and reducing refined sugars. Having occasional treats will not negatively affect your fitness journey. Rather, it will help you stay happy and satisfied if done in a mindful manner.

    In my Honest Opinion.
With Respect to specially Indian Women.
Again, the answer lies in hormones and biology. There are obvious evolutionary advantages to having more fat. Fat tells our bodies that all is right in the world, there is enough food available for us to start puberty and bear children. As we've seen in chapter 3, menstruation and pregnancy will not even occur if we don't have enough body fat.
Once menstruation begins, fat levels will even fluctuate during each cycle, with dips in estrogen and a peak in progesterone causing changes in appetite and fat storage. Women crave fats and carbohydrates during the second half of the menstrual cycle, when estrogen levels decrease. In addition to cravings, the simultaneous peak in progesterone promotes fat storage by clearing the blood of triglycerides and storing them in fat tissue. It is believed that this clearance leads to the desire for fatty foods because the blood is devoid of this nutrient. So it goes, month after month-first cravings, then fat. It's a wonder anyone can lose a pound.
And when women do become pregnant, their bodies add still more fat. The weight gain occurs even when their caloric intake is unchanged, and sometimes decreased. Women accumulate anywhere from five to thirteen pounds of fat in pregnancy, even if they are undernourished. The weight gain is not happening by the slowing of metabolism - total energy expenditure goes up when women carry a child. Part of the explanation may have to do with bacteria, our tiny friends in the gut.
Ruth Ley and her team at Cornell University who transplanted microbiota from pregnant women into germ-free mice found that mice with bacteria transplanted from women in the third trimester of pregnancy got much fatter than the mice with bacteria of women in the first trimester. They found the microbiota composition changes profoundly during the gestational period, which may explain some of the gain - women's bacteria increase absorption of food during pregnancy.
However fat gets accumulated during pregnancy, thankfully a portion of it is converted to milk to feed the newborn. Indeed, breastfeeding allows rapid weight loss after pregnancy for many. That women use their body fat to make all-important breast milk underscores the biological necessity of female fat: the survival of the human race depends on it.
Another reason women store more fat than men is a process called "nutrient partitioning," by which the body stores some of the calories ingested as fat, and uses the rest for other purposes such as for immediate energy or for glycogen stores. Depending on your body, you may consistently set aside more or less of your food intake for fat storage.
    Thanks.

Fat is not a problem. It is visceral fat that is the problem.
And eating wrong is the cause. Like people think that fruits are healthy when in fact fructose is as bad as alcohol. Any fructose will poison mitochondria. And your body will go for a toss.
Eating more carbs will also force body to make fructose and again same effect.
Fat craving is natural. Carb craving is addiction.
You cannot gain weight if you are malnourished. Women naturally eat more frequently when pregnant. Just look at animal kingdom. Women can loose pregnancy fat b feeding child. Feeding child will also prevent another conception. Most Indian siblings are close in age and that means Indian mothers don’t breastfeed their kids enough. It should be until age 3.
Finally women has more storage area and thus they can store more fat. Again not to be confused with visceral fat. Visceral fat is result of toxins like alcohol or fructose. Avoid those and be happy.
Ps: simplest way to recover body is to go 100% carnivore (only meat) for a month. It should cure you of anything except heavy metal poisoning.

I like walking but due to work from home, i am confined at home. Unlike men, I cant go alone to walk in morning or evening, due to catcalling, awkwardness. The physical activity is at home but that does not reduce enough weight. Women have vitamin D deficiency due to not going out. Gyms do not have that many women in tier 2/3 cities.

As a 45 year old woman, I am obese. Had my child at 37 with IVF intervention. Was diagnosed of endometriosis stage 4 at 36 years of age, hence the IVF. Weight was always an issue but I managed to control it with yoga and eating. Now after having my child, I find myself struggling for time for myself. I continue eating healthy though. Have tried so many diets and it is just not working out. Being overweight is affecting my e energy levels and puts pressure on my feet. I loathe being overweight. Modern day demands for working women has its own challenges. I wish I had a body metab that could digest food better

@mohak I have been watching your videos from a long time and if I ever started a channel of my own, I would be doing it exactly as yourself. Observing what no body is observing, talking about everyday things in our society and culture that no one talks about. Where every youtuber is busy getting views by creating trending content, you remain focused on what's important and continue to do so over the years. Kudos! May you grow and may your content get stronger ! Much love and look forward to seeing more of unspoken facts highlighted on your channel.

I have stress induced weight gain. Also I hardly sleep for 5 hrs. I know where am lacking. I try to exercise & eat healthy but after few weeks I relapse to my old habits.

I had obesity in my teenage years when my weight was around 76 kg. I still remember being extremely ashamed of it because my classmates, some school teachers and my parents used to mock me for my weight. It became so worse that ultimately I developed bulimia in 2021. Whenever I ate something, I used to puke immediately. In that way I lost 10 kgs but that made my body very weak and irresistant to illnesses. Still today I've hard time eating to meet my nutritional needs

Calisthenics is severely underrated in this country. Believe me i went from a skinny fat kid who couldn't even crank out 5 push-ups to having a decent looking body and a tremendous increase in relative strength. I can do like 50 clean pushups and 15-20 clean pull-ups now. I can do some pretty cool moves too like the handstand , muscle up , many push-up variations etc. I only recently started going to the gym since progressively overloading the exercises started becoming a challenge as i became pretty strong at just bodyweight exercises. But i give all of the credit to calisthenics. Saved me tbh.

Calisthenics is indeed good but for older people it might be a bit too much.
People shouldn't underestimate bodyweight exercises. They might sometimes be more challenging than weight training because you can't lower or increase the weight to your comfort.
Jumprope is much better full body workout in my opinion and practically for all ages. It gives you an athlete kind of fitness and focus on weak points of the body. If the goal is bare minimum fitness for longevity and healthy life then just jumprope. Pretty cheap and practically can be done anywhere. Just one exercise.

Another consideration is epigenetics! Throughout generations of famine, the ones who survived to reproduce were those who were able to better extract and store energy as fat from the small amount of food available. This means that we store much more fat even if we eat the same food as others. Because our starting line and even process is different, regular method of weight loss often will not yield as much results as they would for others.
