Hello from Wisconsin! I have a 288/2858 and love it for the reasons you mention. It is fun to drive from the flybridge and good sleeping for 3-4 adults. Plus with the trailer, you can take it anywhere you want to! Good luck on your cleanup project, I will subscribe!
What I use to clean my boat interior is a magic eraser, it works wonders, been working on my boat all summer and had grease and oil all over my vinyl seats, just water and magic eraser, wiping it for a second makes it come off immediately. It would work really well on your boat.
Use On Off spray from any marine store. Not roll off, On Off. spray on, wait a few secs, light brushing and hose off. All that gunk will come off. Yes it’s acidic, caustic and dangerous to breathe in, but it is better than straight muriatic acid. (Which works great on rust stains).
Bar keepers friend or Babbo works good. cleaned tons of boats. Oxalic acid active ingredient. Muriatic acid no dangerous too Eats skin etc. plastic. HCl!
Toilet bowl cleaner will destroy gelcoat over time or if left to dry. There are better solutions. A rust stain remover will do a much better job and is easily safer to work with. Just my 2 cents but I've been dealing with the negative effects of this stuff on my boat Detailing history. It's a lazy fix but not the best. Good video though. Lee
Better look at comps on the market for that boat. That will be a tough boat to sell again at any price with its past… and with limited desirability in the market place
I hear ya. But its not about that. My whole thing is what can I do with a $500 boat. I have always wanted a 288 but everyone I see is north of $40k. I don't have it like that. But what I do have is drive, skill and determination. Most of the work these boats need is labor. It is my hope that at the end of the day I have a cool boat with minimal investment. I'm not really concerned about selling it. This may be my Great Loop boat. Who knows.
Joe - I love your videos so far! Very educational as well as entertaining. Good luck with the boat!

Don't use it on shiny gelcoat. It's abrasive.
Gut that wet interior out pronto. Curious how it all come out. Keep those vids coming!
I am actually going to be working on that today. I agree this is key. I will have another video shortly.
