The whole point of buying luxury goods is for the quality of the craftsmanship and fabrication and we’re not seeing that happening anymore.

We also have to accept the fact that the so-called "luxury quality" has disappeared. Other than bold creativity, the top fashion houses were known for their unmatched quality. But that is simply not the story any more. With them losing two of three competitive advantages (the third being brand respect), the industry is bound to go through a deep crisis. Customers may be willing to buy subpar goods once or twice just for the brand name, but they also know when they're being fleeced.

The market is completely saturated - the rarity and exclusivity of many high-end fashion brands has diminished as the market becomes completely dominated by bourgeois customers (with bourgeois tastes). At the same time we find a complete lack of dignity and good taste from brands like Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton as they cater to the ostentatious and increasingly obscure tastes of the new Global ultra-rich.

I'm a huge fan of Demna's Balenciaga, and I have to agree. I love the designs but even I recognize how far removed it is from Cristóbal Balenciaga's originals.

before and during 90s, designer make something, now designer only make variation of what that has made. Beside, at that time internet was new, brands need social media presense, that why they use extravagant designer like galliano. Now they focus on making sales

this narrative is so wrong, but I feel like people are just oversaturated with fantastic work all over the world, we see thousands of creatives with cool designs, but give them so little attention, that we only want more and more revolutionary ideas and in the meantime, we forget about all the work behind it...
just look at it from outside the little box you live in and you will see the evolution clearly

@@winst9546 listen, i always prefer to watch the fashion content like loro piana knit design award, andam and many ig account that promote fashion student and underrated brand. But corporate nowadays want to make money, they obsessed with infinite growth. Like my previous comment, social media & internet was a new thing back then, they are on marketing phase bc internet is available worldwide and now they go to a new phase of making money.

Interesting points! I don’t think luxury fashion will ever “end.” I believe there will always be people with the means and need to purchase status and the opportunity to feel “special.” (I have many luxury items myself, so that’s not a criticism; just an opinion.)

I think they are a bit disoriented. It's difficult to be a global brand and at the same time be a luxury brand. It is becoming more and more so. They have brutal competition with lower priced brands but for some reason their clothes are good.

It’s impossible to sell luxury to every other person on the planet. Exclusivity is a tenet of luxury retailing so there is a point where is just all just becomes banal.

Or simply, in a more challenging economic environment, singles and households with less disposable income are not spending as much on luxury items.

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. 🤦🏻♀ The other one is a $40 one *yutulu* Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym 😅 yt

If you want to match different clothes, you may even need several bags with different styles or colors. You don’t want the bags to not match the clothes you are wearing, right? *gtdupe*
