    Great job bud! I’m going to have to add it at the top of my to-do list. I may have missed this, but did you mention the total cost of materials? I know it will vary across the country, but it would be nice to know a ball park number before I go buy everything. Thanks!

      Thanks a lot Kevin! I did not mention it and its a good question! Here is a quick breakdown of the pricing.
      1/2 in plywood: $9.63
      3/4 in plywood: $11.49
      1x5x8 ft common board: $7.86
      1x2x8ft common board: $3
      Cabinet Sliders: $20.98
      Corner Braces: $3
      1/2 in and 3/4 in screws: $3
      Foam Insert: $22
      Total= Roughly $80.96
      Then some other things that you may already have are:
      White and Black Spray Paint
      Sealer
      Union Stencil
      Frog Tape
      Red white and blue stain
      Repositioning adhesive spray
      Hopefully this helps!

    Son, be proud of yourself. You not only spent time and money to display our flag but were willing to share your work and process with us. Just remember, some negative comments maybe attempts to help when others are simply miserable, snotty nose little boys that only get off the couch to go to the restroom then return to the couch for more cookies, popcorn and candy. I’ve had pretty good luck with doing this with the foam:
    Cut it to where the gun is a snug fit and then cut out to finger holes where you can just reach in and grab it. It makes the issue you had non-existent.
    LOVE this build tho. I’ve never made a slide out flag like this. Mine have always been up and down. Def gonna give this style a try!! Great job!!!
    OHHH...and as for the stars, when you put your stencil down, spray a coat of sealer over the stencil before applying the white paint. It will seal all the edges and eliminate any bleeding of the white!! 👍🏼👊🏼

    Thank you so much for this informative video.. I'm a 59 year old woman who is making this for my husband for Christmas..he and I just bought two new second amendments and have no secure places for them..this is the perfect size for both of them..and it was VERY easy to follow your directions unlike others who have done hundreds of these and forget that every person out there is a woods craftsman..some of us are women..just starting out..so long story short..too late.. Beautiful. Love the flag on the plywood. I picked up 2 x8 x8 rough cedar boards at Home Depot for $5.83. On clearance. I can get 3 flags from each board. But we just built a house and builder left behind 50 sheets of 1/2 plywood. So plenty to practice

      And orient the gun muzzle up, the mags bullet pointing towards You when You open, just ergonomics, easier to just go with Your palm directly at the grip of the gun, like a "hands up" position. And the mags grip with with thumb and 3 finger opposite, the built in pointer along the front of the mag.

    Awesome video, love how it turned out and the detailed build process is greatly appreciated! If you're worried about the loose foam cutout, you could potentially glue or inset some rare earth magnets in the back panel behind the foam, they'd hold everything nice and snug. Again great build thank you!

    I love the build and the idea of the lock. Did you consider any other options for the lock? Would there be a way for thr magnet to hold the pin but id you move the magnet it "drops" the pin instead of removing it? If you really need it I am not sure I would want to be reaching for a magnet and then pulling the pin up and out

    For the lock, you could predrill your hole not quite through and use a slightly shorter rod. There wouldn't be a hole to show no matter where you set/hung the box. To unlock have a knickknack on top that has a magnet in its bottom. To unlock, just slide the knickknack over the spot where the rod is. The rod raises up out of the door into the frame. You could incorporate multiple locking rods, if you choose. I use this principle with little jewelry boxes for my nieces.

The washers,the steel rod lock.....ect. you can glue your foam if you put a couple drill wholes through the foam where the screws are located. So awesome!
    One quick suggestion, since you got a two pack of magnets you could cut a hole in the foam where the slider is and glue the magnet to the wood in that location to avoid the gun tipping out in case the foam doesn't hold it snug enough.

  • @RobertsMind

    Awesome job on the cabinet. I see you using stencils for your Union. I have an MS Excel spreadsheet that I built for when I make custom flag items so I can put in the height or the width and it gives me the dimensions for each piece of the flag.

    Awesome build made easy! Love the lock idea!
    Suggestion for the anchor screws and the foam inside is that you could drill matching holes in the foam if you need to glue that foam down, the screw heads would be accessible and you wouldn't need to rip the foam off to get it off the wall.

  • @steveriedel6931
    @steveriedel6931 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is awesome! Maybe someone has said it but take out the foam, cut a small slot or two and glue in some magnets to hold the gun and mags better since you say they are a bit loose

  • @SublimeArchi
    @SublimeArchi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks good. Two suggestions: 1. You could try those magnetic child proof cabinet locks or for a bit more security, you could do some kind of RF card lock.
    2. Maybe velcro the foam in so that it stays and can be removed later. Not sure if that foam would hold the velcro on the back or not, but worth a try.

      Dont need conditioner when you burn the wood grain. Conditioner raises the grain and after you sand it's the same as burnt wood. Sou shugi ban japanese wood burning technique seals the wood grain tight that's what makes it last hundreds of years. But yes condition all wood that is raw

    Awesome video buddy. I wonder if you could make one to where when you pull the locking pin out it automatically opens w/some speed. If you're ever in a home intruder situation, I know I wouldn't want to have to pull the pin, slide it open and retrieve the firearm. I'd want to pull the pin and go. Just a thought. Let us know if you ever do a project like that. Keep up the great work. You make us red blooded patriots proud!!
