    my all time favourite place to go back in the day remember the first time I went there must have got over 150 sights, so good to see 87101 first time I've seen this in all the you tube vids I've watched. keep up the good work.

      Thank you. Crewe was always a good place for some good catchers. There is another vid of 87 101 on TH-cam, in Railfreight Distribution livery no less! See it on my upload here th-cam.com/video/qQ-psDjXios/w-d-xo.html, enjoy!

      Stratford looks so different from now a much more enjoyable place to be with all that classic traction. nice to see 87101 in distribution livery.

    Excellent footage as per, will watch several times as per lol, all that blue/grey stock . . another location i 'spot' at back in '90 in my head all the time (she knows all about that, and soon realised thats how i knew the loco liveries etc from this era). So more bla bla now lol, hmmm 87026 has some good weathering on that one. Im still in the process of painting a poor lima model of her i started in 1996. .
    Meanwhile, in real-life, 87026 got her next overhaul (CEM 'light' exam) at Springburn the following Sept '90, only to have just the cabs repainted i think. It didnt take long for the grey to peel off on the ends again! Finally gained IC swallow livery around April 1993. Then had next CEM at ZH 1.94. . .
    Good to see some inter-sub-sector co-operation with CD ILRA long-range 47848 on the Holyhead, usually for the Crewe ICDA fleet at time, and ICDA pool 47483 on that Cardiff service, instead of the usual CF PCFA 37/4 loco, some of them being re-allocated away from CF at this time. . .
    Ye olde 47483 was painted into that BR Mainline livery at Donny Works 10.88 and stayed in it until her doom in '93. . .
    As for 47848, loved them 47/8 LL blue variants, all nearly unique. Previously 47632, she was given plain large logo blue at Crewe works Dec 1985, just before orange cant-rail stripes were applied as standard on LL loco's. Then received embellishments in July 1986 including the orange stripes, silver buffers/buffer-beam trim and repainted roof panels. Then gaining an Eastfield terrier motif in August 1988 after moving to ED, before becoming long-range 47848 in Dec 1989 when LL arrows/numbers were removed and replaced with the cab-side black numbers, and given a lick of blue, still retaining her ED motif even though Crewe based! Finally got the IC swallow livery during next CEM at Donny works in June 1990, so only in her unique blue for 6 months. . .
    And 87101 was given white cab window-surrounds in May 1987 briefly, going back to yellow within a month or 2. Then later had a repaint into its standard BR blue at Stratford DRS (or Major Depot) during a CEM 'light' exam within 5 months of this vid, until gaining the Rf Distribution livery in April 1991 at Crewe Electric depot after repair to derailment damage following a collision with container flats on 21.53 Garston - Felixstowe, whilst in charge of the 22.15 WN - Workington speedlink on 28.3.91 near Lichfield. So, both trains were on time then!
    Surprised there were no roarers in vid, or is there a part 2 hehe?

      Thanks for your comments. I too back in the day had a good working knowledge of what locos were up to, liveries ect but can't remember half of it now! I didn't see any early AC locos on this visit. The 85s were still around but even they were on borrowed time, as you can see on the of the 90s storming through the centre roads, a DVT is already at work. These allowed the loco requirement to be reduced for InterCity so allowing spare locos to replace the last roarers on passenger work. RfD kept some going for a while, as 85/1's, as bits of the network were wired up they needed a few more electric locos. Happy days.....My other Crewe upload is here if you haven't seen it th-cam.com/video/Eq_-Ovr--Co/w-d-xo.html, enjoy!

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Yes interestingly i just looked it up and there were still about 15 x 85/0's, 11 x 85/1's in service, and still a couple of 81's doing the Euston ecs in Jan '90! Great loco's.

    I did see 87101, but only once I think, at Crewe in '97, I wondered if it sounded any different with the thyristor drive from a regular 87 but it didn't seem to.

      No, the main noise we hear is the transformer and traction motor blowers kicking in when the loco powers up.

    Fantastic video! I would''ve thought the DVTs were in service by then, but obviously not. Interesting to see it on test. Was there a 40 I could hear whistling in the background, or was that my imagination?

      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, i think the DVT's were on the verge of starting but not quite! The noise you hear is likely to be a pair of class 20s on the low level goods lines behine the station and out of sight (but not hearing!)....

    What was that short 4 coach train behind 47483? Manchester - Cardiff? Unusual hybrid livery on 47848.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, i believe the 47+MkII's ws a Manchester-Cardiff. The funny livery on 802 was the fact the pool had just been created by InterCity and they drew down the best 47s they could find (so until they went through a re-paint they were in a variety of colours), i believe they had first call, followed by Res. Poor old RfD got the dregs! And when that split between RfD & Freightliner, the dregs were split again and Freighliner got the absolute scrappings from the bottom of the class 47 barrel!!!

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking at the shot again i don't think it is a Manchester-Cardiff, the Manchester Line is to the right of the train, this has come from further north on the WCML. I wonder where? Was there a Liverpool to Cardiff working i wonder?

    what a thow back to a by go era you dont get those trains any more in 2023 the staion had a full roof too nice look back at what crewe once was nice one in good condision for over 30 years too thay need to bring back the 2 loco train to make it easyer to put exra coches on the train if needed not just a set train ie 9 car train whould be easyer now with the tech and signels we have now so wont take too long to add a few cars you could use part of the old staion as storeage for this as a idea to any railway people that might view this.
