He actually looks like he's taking it pretty well. His ears are pointing and tail is up. Swatting and hissing is somewhat normal too. He'll love him in no time
@@Paw_it_up how long did it take for them to start getting along n playing with each other etc ?? BC I introduced my new cat to Nala who’s my older cat and it’s been over 2 full months and she still won’t let him by her and every time he is by her or approaches her BC he’s very playful she just hisses growls and try’s to hit him with her paw so I’m really starting to think they will never like each other but I hope that’s not the case
1. Do not introduce cats immediately (keep them in separate rooms and let them sniff each other from under the door only for at least 48 hours, but maybe up to a week, depending on your cats. 2. Let the resident cat hiss and growl. Do not reprimand your cat for hissing or growling. It will subside and when she acting calm, praise her and give her treats. 3. You want to show her that good things (like treats and pets) happen whenever she’s around the new cat so she forms positive associations of the new kitty. 4. Put both feeding bowls next to the door on opposite sides so they get used to eating together and at the same time. 5. Only introduce once the hissing and growling as stopped for more than a couple days.
This needs so much more upvotes. Cats aren't like dogs. They still haven't developed that part of their brain to understand stuff like that. They are still very much hunters/predators who, sadly, still succumbs to instinct at the end of the day. Right now, that cat's instinct is telling her that her territory has been compromised. Hiss and tell the kitty who's boss
Hissing is a way of communication and all you need to do is love on existing cat and let them smell each other and slowly become friends by small steps
One of the best things you can do is b4 you introduce, take a rag, rub it all over your cat, especially the cheeks. Then rub that all over the new cat. They'll smell their scent on the new cat and it will help. Keep repeating this. I learned that from my step dad as a little girl. Makes a big difference.
I just adopted a 9months old cat, and my cat Lilly is furious hissing and making attacking sounds... I definitely will try this Tip. I really hope they get along, but its just beginning.
Let that happen. Keep the cats separate and let them smell each other through a door. They will eventually get used to each other at least enough to tolerate the other.
When i got a new kitten with my older female it took her about a month and then she was playing with him and cleaning and cuddling too. So just remember they both need equal love and attention and it will all work out.
All cats are like this I adopted a kitten in may and my cats were FURIOUS so I had to keep here in my room and watch her everyday for 2 months and then we finally let her out the room roaming free and then the cats started to like now they love her and never leave her side fr😅
People should really understand cats are animals that like routine, when you change their living arrangements it's often very stressful. A cat that's lived years alone with their humans often won't enjoy having another disrupt that stability they've become accustomed to. Sure there's exceptions but usually socializing the cat with other animals from an early age is best and not doing so later in their matured lives when they've settled with a specific environment. Cats don't like it even when you rearrange furniture because you've changed what they've become comfortable with.
That’s where I am with my 1 yr old male RB and my new female kitten who is a rescue and I believe she’s around 8 weeks. She’s so playful and independent.
To anyone watching this who are gonna introduce a cat to another cat/kitten Pls dont be mad at youre cat if they hiss or act aggressive, they just don't understand what and who the new thing is and feel uncomfortable, not saying this because of op, she did great , just want some people to know
Just got a RagDoll kitten. My 2 yr old Norwegian forest cat.. won’t stop hissing every time she sees him. BUT within the same minute will groom him 😂 she’s confused. I can tell she loves him. Prob will take a week.
As long as she isn't physically trying to eat the kitten, you're good lol Try feeding them together! I have 4 cats, 1 of the cats needs to be kept away from the other 3, and the remaining 3- two of them are siblings who gang up on the 3rd to the point where I have to keep them separated 😢
This os a pretty good reaction actually. My cat was horrible at first, terrified of the kitten. He didnt come home properly for weeks. But over time he was forced to get used to the kitten. Now theyre best friends.

They are all like that. My dad got me a kitten at the beginning of 2023 and my older cat was not happy. But after a while they get used to each other and hang out. Cats can be upset at first but then get used to it because that's there only option.
They cuddle sometimes but now the little one is more dominant because Blanca is so passive but she'll fight him when she's over him pushing her around. They fight and play everyday though. It's cute and annoying sometimes. The time will pass and they'll get a long soon
My neighbors cat die with the same reason, the cat was friendly(child friendly even strangers) but the day they introduced another cat, the cat expressed angry and leave the house but stay around the house during cold winter. The owner call him but didn't enter the house. After few days, the cat felt from the house. In the morning, they found the cat starve, cold and die. All the family members cry for days and realizing the big mistake. It's like a curse, the remaining cat also died at the similar age by accident (hit by vehicle). From that day, the family never have pets.

That’s what my Salem did to our new kitten, funny thing is Salem is a kitten too but he’s a bit older. But eventually they ended up being the BEST of friends. Like they go everywhere together, eat together, sleep, everything lol

I think people should foster kittens if they already have a cat so the cat can get comfortable with the idea of kittens and other cats
@The_dark_commenter yea but fostering can be challenging because you can get attached and it can be hard to let go when they have a new home.

Oh yeah if you have one cat that was alone forever and if you get a dog or another cat they feel threatened because it’s in their domain
Yes my cat would just STARE at something when I moved it trying to reorient their whole life around it and I felt so bad.
People like this owner are too stupid to understand that. But she’s a woman so I’ll give her somewhat of a pass.
Honestly a great reaction let the older one assert his dominance

If you haven't already, look up the best way to introduce a kitten. And don't make them share a litter box unless you want a feline war.
