I found it weird people were complaining about the side screen when monitors are all the rage. Then the new complaints are that they don't want a camera to rig out, then they get the FX3 or Mirror-less, attach a cineback/cage then basically build out the same footprint.😂
The thing is not about rigging a camera. Every camera has to be rigged. Well, not "has to" but we always do because we all have different uses and workflows and stuff. The problem IMO with this screen is hte fact it is a proper screen in a mostly useless position. If they copied what's on a Venice or Kinefinity or Arri (so a screen with just the menus in a minimal way) would have been awesome but this way it just feels like a waste. (plus it's a pretty large screen and I wonder how much it would be a risk for damage)
My Blackmagic Pocket 4K still have a special place in my heart despite owning a Lumix S5IIX. There's something sweet about BRAW. Blackmagic has really come a long way and I'm happy with their journey.
I still use BMPCC4k daily basis on corporate video shoots. I dont really need 6k footage but I probably will upgrade to Pyxis (or maybe future Pyxis Pro) at some point.
@@Siimkristjanpariis I've had the BMPCC4K since 2021 and the need to upgrade to 6K didn't occur to me cause that camera is freaking amazing. Viltrox speedbooster has helped me to make it more valuable. I got the Lumix S5IIX for most of my run and gun gigs and I'm enjoying it as well. If I'm to upgrade my BMPCC4K, it'll be to the Blackmagic Full Frame 6K and not the Pyxis and that's because of the kind of project I do tend more towards that camera body.
Thank you so much for your comments on the screen. I always saw that as a weird criticism of this camera. Especially since the screen is actually usable unlike many other cinema cameras 3x the cost save for canons cinema line.
I’m just happy for the increased anamorphic desqueeze shooting options. And I knew that it wasn’t going to be a 1:1 from the bmcc 6K. The small increases and items they addressed is very much so appreciated
I've been looking everywhere online for an answer regarding the anamorphic options at 6:5 and you're the only one who's actually answered that question so thank you!
Cine makers want posterity, so that those huge files can be upgraded to the things we see, in the future. Having 16bit 4K 8K 17K, means that the capture can be viewed in higher (and future) displays. Only a few have 4K displays, and most Cinemas are still 1080p, but 4K projectors are slowly moving into cinemas. Having a 4K TV is still a luxury in 2025.
This definitely on my list. I’m going to wait until the BM monitor is shipping to pick this up. I love my 6k full frame but it’s limited in rigging options. It would be nice to do a shoulder rig without hdmi cables in my ear lol.
Thank you so much for showing that it can do anamorphic in open gate and send it over the SDI at the proper desqueeze. The 6K was a great image but it was limited to 1080p out so in open gate it was a nightmare to pull focus in open gate.
I spoke to the engineers and they kinda hinted that it would… but that was literally months and months ago…. So idk honestly. I’ve learned that all of these camera companies do little updates throughout the year to their processors and stuff so I would be shocked if the Pyxis had a little mroe juice
Your style of filming/recording is nice man. Very original. The Pyxis will be my first camera and I have 0 lenses, but plan on getting a PL lens. Is the wise choice the L mount and use a PL adapter for versatility? or will PL to L mount adapter introduce any image issues? Anyone in the chat can help me out?
I remember your bmpcc 4k videos, and the Canon R ones, you should bring those cameras back sometimes to show amateurs what they can get with a $500 camera.
I do find it strange they didnt add built in ND’s. They could have stretched the price to $3500 and we would have paid it. Been subscribed since you had the 4k👍
I love the organic, filmic look that Blackmagic cameras provide, especially with DaVinci Resolve and BRAW included. Would this setup be practical for a solo amateur learning cinematography, particularly while traveling and relying on natural light, composition, and angles? My main focus is still images, but occasionally I’d like to include myself in the shot as a still frame. Would using a tripod as a stand-in help ensure proper focus where I’ll be standing? People have recommended Sony, but its more clinical look doesn’t appeal to me.
Great stuff as always. One question: what is the latency on the SDI output? I love my S5IIX, but the latency on HDMI is a crime. I hope this more professional port is better.
Blackmagic Pocket 6k Pro user here. You're using your highlight recovery tab incorrectly. To get the max use of it, you need to lower your ISO, then hit the highlight recovery tab. You can get up to 2.4 additional stops in highlight information using this method. If the blacks are too dark, you can adjust with the HDR wheels if you're grading with wide gamut. Good video btw, seems like they improved the shadows with this one over the full frame 6k
Not sure about the IPhone 😂, but the Pixys is such a solid camera, it will last long, specially with that sensor and connectivity options. Only thing to maybe consider is that for the same price you can get a used URSA 12k, maybe even with the vlock plate.. Hmmm decisions decisions 😂
Great video. Please contact black magic at and ask to add all desqueeze options to the Cinema 6k camera. I also have a question for you. I own a 45mm Remus and plan to buy a second lens, what would you recommend? 65 or 85 mm? Thank you
Is the rolling shutter the same as the BMCC6K? Coming from an FX6 user, that may be the dealbreaker to what looks like an otherwise perfect camera in its price point.
Thanks for the video! I will be looking for a camera that can autofocus debates. I know these cameras don't have AF but I work with Resolve & really want BRAW & BM's awesome menus 😂 So I'm hoping the Pyxis with DJI's focus pro lidar will do the job? 🤞
Thank you! I have the Pocket 4k and love it. I’m liking some of the upgrades on these 6k models (especially the full frame FOV), but issue is I don’t need 6k or the file sizes that go with them. So my question is: any way to utilize the 6k models but with smaller file sizes closer to the P4K? Not sure if it makes sense to shoot windowed on the full frame sensor?
I was prepared to spend more money on a better camera. Now, I’ll just go with the RED.

Batterylife was the big dealbreaker for me, i was with sony from the beginning and the old Sony Batteries were so bad that this traumatised me for life :D so i am suuuuper happy about the pyxis solving that, The only thing i hope for is Opengate with at least 50fps ... so far only kinefinity does that at a low price, and only arri in a proper way since red (raptor and monstro) has an 17:9 Sensor, meaning 4:3 is just a crop and does not give you more vertical space. I hope the ursa 12k cine will fix that
i feel like the people who complain about the pyxis just complain for a living like they're getting paid its a box camera, made to be rigged out, if you dont like it, buy a pocket 6K. its practically the same camera but in a different body the only complaint from me is that there are no built in NDs, which can be resolved anyway by getting the L mount version and using drop in filters on your adapters, you'd probs get the L mount version anyway as its objectively the most logical choice
Agreed. I think people jsut like complaining in general in this community now sadly. It makes me want to seperate myself from it all mroe and more cause I personally jsut look at gear as tools for specific jobs. Like im not gonna use a Barbie doll to build a house

That’s tough man. You gotta try them both and see. I wanna say the Komodo X has more information in the raw files.. but the PYXIS has full frame open gate…. So really tough. I would say if you’re happy with your KX and your lens coverage, no reason to switch.
Most all BPU batteries are 99 watt hour...I'm not sure but that V mount looks like 99 watt hour battery. a BPU effectively for most is just a V mount voltage wise in a smaller form factor. There is little reason to add this v-mount when the bpu are cheaper and smaller. Not that you can use it but NPF batteries also while 7.4 volts are also often can be had with 99 watt hour. Anywho, just annoying. V-mounts are soo over priced.
No one says you have too… the vmount I was using has two USBC ports btw.. and a dtap.. so I can power other things off of it. And also.. they’re are higher power vmount too. No need to feel some type of way of tools man
@@cammackey Yea not exactly my point, I'm sorry, let me correct it I'm not commenting on yours setup in a negative way. I'm just saying this because I think the actual battery capacity gets confused by people way too often. I know your not doing that. Just noting that the capacity is about the same or is the same in reality. People will spend 150-200 bucks on a v mount when it has the same capacity as a $25 NPF or about $50 BPU, man BPUs have gotten cheaper. The BPUs I have even have a Dtap.
