BMD has come a long way since the Pocket Cinema 1. I hope Blackmagic stays independent of the giant camera vendors and stay true to their roots of crafting smart affordable and slightly nutty gear for those of us trying to not take jobs at the corporate studios making the next sequel to whatever.
The rolling shutter is just not usable for any serious work. This is a great camera for low budget shorts or TH-cam videos, but it's just not a tool I would ever use in a professional environment
IT's the same camera guts from the the pocket 4k, with a body change and a larger sensor. the pocket 4k has more frame, more formats and a sharper image , a better value in comparison.
Yes it does, there is a crop when dropping the resolution, but it's the same on RED cameras and honestly doesn't bother me that much. I just film in 6k to have more flexibility in post and deliver 4k.
Eh, rolling shutter 😱 I love the image off the BM full frame sensors, but the rolling shutter is horrible! I know you can get rid of some of it with the gyro, but I still can’t unsee it. Coming from the Komodo, I couldn’t stand the jello with fast moving shots
with the risk of sounding stupid, why do we need 6k cameras when 4k TVs and monitors even less so are only just starting to become more common and only because almost all of the TVs for sale these days are 4k so you get it by default? are they really going to come out with a selection of 6k screens that are going to go mainstream before they move on to 8k or 12k? it just seems kind of buzzy to spend money to have that extra 2k more than 4k when you'll just want an 8k next and who has a 6k screen anyways.
If you're shooting green screen or any other application that requires greater pixel depth, then 6K and above offers professionals an excellent option for higher resolution projects that fall into those categories. Simply put, Blackmagic offers incredible value for your money!
Wenn du eine gute Box style cinema camera suchst mit krassen Frameraten, einer schönen Color Science und viel viel mehr dann kann ich auch Kinefinity empfehlen!
Kinefinity is significantly more expensive. Between 3x to 5x the price of a Pyxis. And for that price range, yes it should be an excellent camera. But this just shows how the Pyxis and Blackmagic overall punches well above its weight by offering incredible value for money.
@DanC-r2w That may be true. I can only say how much I like my Kinefinity. I've worked with a lot of Blackmagic cameras before and yes they're good. I bought the Terra 4K cheaply on the second-hand market. Camera and a lot of accessories worth about 8000 euros I got for less than 1800 euros. But I've been missing BRAW since then.
Awesome review! And yeah, normies will never know about things like rolling shutter (and right, only we notice the horizontal lines from lens flares lmaao)
1) BRAW is no where in the same league as RED RAW. 2) Not sure about the rolling shutter on the older RED camera but the rolling shutter on the Pyxis is horrible, one of the worst readout time of any modern camera. Unless the Pyxis is mounted on a tripod and stationary, all other shots create motion sickness. The rolling shutter issue was apparent in a lot of your sample shots. There are better alternatives out there for this price range.
Felix, you sound like a complete peanut here. I’ve shot with Red and BM cameras extensively, and I can assure you the difference between RED RAW and BRAW - in practise - is minimal. The rolling shutter, as above - is roughly equal to the Burano. The idea that it creates motion sickness is wild - and it can be largely corrected in post. If you’re going to comment on videos - it’s generally advisable to have something honest or interesting to say. You have neither.
The organs joke and the anime part made me follow you. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
A whole anime hero arc .... THE CAMERAMAN NEVER DIES 💥. You've outdone yourself Felix.
I appreciate that a ton!!
Great video Felix 😊 also looking forward to test this camera

great video! the anime arc completely sent me lol
I don't even know why I did that or why I spent hours on that
That top 10 list was amazing!
I think the slot for the ND filters is very good on the Pyxis
Yeah it was in the adapter 😂
Great Video! Love to see my lenses used by someone with your creative spirit. 🔥
Thank you for letting me borrow these beautiful lenses 🫶
anime sequence goes so fn hard bro.. thank you for this :0 review

OMG, the anime!!!! WOOOOOOO
I'm not sure why I spent hours on a few seconds of the video but I'm glad you enjoyed it haha

Great review 🎉
I appreciate that! Thank you for watching!!
Great video. I was told that when shooting in 4K, it crops in which is a huge bummer. Is this true?
Yes it does, there is a crop when dropping the resolution, but it's the same on RED cameras and honestly doesn't bother me that much. I just film in 6k to have more flexibility in post and deliver 4k.

Supporting, great video as always
I appreciate you!
I really wish we got a s35 pyxis with the 6k or 4.6k sensor. I know the URSA is an option but i already have a big enough camera.
Love the color of the PYXSIS too.
Really enjoyed this one!! And get that 5th point on the Priority List a bit higher up :))
Hahaha yesss! Thanks for looking cool while playing the piano
Someone make a camera with apple airdop, please! This is all i want for christmas

It’s more for us in the PostPro to crop into footage to have higher pixels for tracking etc and sharper downsampled renders

Nexus g1

Too expensive Vs. Red?!!
Where are you buying your cameras?
Seriously brother, someone is ripping you off.

What about Burano? It has the same rolling shutter than the Pyxis for 25k!

Felix big mad 😂😂😂 all this tough talk but probably can’t tell you anything about his A1C 😂😂😂
Maybe you should make THAT video, Felix. Maybe Sony or Canon or whoever PR you work for will help you out with that.
You can just not fling the Pyxis around like a mental patient, there you go, rolling shutter gone!
erster ;P
