I just want to say it’s great to see another channel finally look at dynamic range at 800 instead of 400 iso. Been doing my own testing and showing on my channel and found that 800 is an overall better balanced iso vs 400. 400 is great if your in need of cleaner blacks but the increase in highlight performance outweighs the raise of noise at 800 making it, imo a better Balanced image at the lower iso.
If you wanna go a step further and nail the Arri look on Pyxis or any Blackmagic since the 4k, then I highly recommend the Emotive Color LUT pack that was made for the BMPCC 6K since it's very compatible with the PYXIS. Phantom LUT or Buttery LUT ain't got a damn on it. I still use my Lumix GH4/5 version of the LUT pack and it makes my cameras look like a legit arri. The best thing about the LUT pack is that it can apply the look and come out the other end as an Arri LogC file, meaning you can then go on grading the Log footage as if it were an actual Arri and get that high end Arri look (without the latitude of course)
man, the mid49 cage really does look the best. I know we probably never will, but I'd love to see Arri do a PCA set for the pixys, even if it costs as much as the camera itself. A lot of people are saying that it'll make a great B cam to the Alexas, it'd be nice if they used the same accessory ecosystem. Either that or mid49 needs to develop a cage for the mini LF and the 35.
OOOoo thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a couple multi-focus anamorphic pipelines that I'd like to test (Bolex, Sankor), but the new generation of anamorphics really intrigues me. Pavo and Blazar / Remus in particular.
Great review ! About adapters, I can't find the PL to L adapter on Breakthrough website, they only have a PL to RF, you might have a prototype on yours ?
Dang. Hadn't thought about using it for vertical like that. I don't even like vertical video, but that'd be great for hand held simple shooting of personal stuff.
I been doing a lot of research for my first serious cinema camera. Great video. I thinking I'm getting this one. My mind is all made up. My only concern since there's different ones. I am aiming to get the PL. Is that a good choice?
Great! good camera. I'm worried that its cost in the new case is approaching the cost of the kinefinity LF 6k. Black magic is of course cheaper, but it is better to know the difference between them. After all, it is unknown whether these cameras are equal or not.
Good in-depth video, When shooting vertical content ive read the screen doesn't rotate/orient to vertical when rotating the camera with the side screen now facing upward, is that the case?
Planning to purchase, can't decide which mount to choose. I have a decent set of EF cine lenses, but will likely be renting anamorphics from NWCC on a project-by-project basis. What's your lens inventory say?
@@NorthwestCameraCo what do you think about the robustness of the connection using adaptors? I assume it's not the same as having a native PL mount (or native EF mount).
@@NorthwestCameraCo But that section says it's the BMCC 6k Pro, which I'm assuming you meant the previous version of the full frame because there was no "Pro" version. But if the electronics of the Pyxis improve the image, in what areas would that be? Shadows and highlghts?
@@NorthwestCameraCowhat makes the image better in your opinion? Dynamic range is better on the FX3, so it has to be something else. Maybe you could be a little more specific. Thanks.
@@gundisrambo9054 Dynamic range is pretty similar to FX3 just weighted differently. FX3 is 10bit as this is 12 so theres a large color information difference as well as just personal bias when it comes to color in general.
If this had better readout speed and internal NDs.. I'd be all about it.. but the terrible rolling shutter and lack of internal ND in 2024 is a no go for me
honestly once you run it through the warp situation in resolve, its essentially on par with c400/c500/Burano and mostly not noticeable during 90% of shooting to a DP's eye. General public probably wouldn't care if its readout speed was 75ms.
@NorthwestCameraCo fixing it in post is not my love language and i would never present a "we can fix it later" to a client. There's cameras with far faster readout speed and internal nds . This is a cool start for bm. But for me, I just couldn't use it in a paid environment
I'll wait till BMD inevitably release a Mk 11 which needs the built in ND filters this model should have had from Day 1. No excuse. We might even see a classic BMD price reduction.
So sad about the bad rolling shutter on this camera, you can't correct it if the camera is not moving and has no gyro data for example if an object is moving fast in the frame which is sad, otherwise it would've been perfect for the price
The image from the Blackmagic pockets is better than the image from all Sony alpha cameras unless you’re shooting RAW. You can’t beat the Sonys for convenience like autofocus though.
Sony has always excelled in ergonomics, possibly even over picture in their dedicated video cameras. IMO, the 'floating' electronic internal ND built into the FS5, FS7 II and FX6 will trump this camera every time, irrespective of picture quality. Given you can pick up 14 stop D/R FS7 IIs now for just $1500, that's where I'll stay for the time being.
Pretty sure you own a Sony A series camera and never tried Blackmagic...I had a FX3+FX6 for 3 years, then switched to Blackmagic, and the image quality (colors, texture, details, highlight roll off, ...) is much better on Blackmagic!!
"A vertical Komodo" Brilliant ! Love your insights on this video.

A couple quick questions. 1. I love you. 2. Does that cage get in the way of the drop in filter from Breakthrough?
So for you slightly better rolling shutter is 250% better rolling shutter. Now I now numerically what you guys mean by "slightly".
