You remember Pokkén Tournament, right? The surprise Pokémon fighting game made by several of the Tekken developers? With the epic combat that felt like battles from the anime in video game form? That managed to find a niche despite starting out exclusive to a dying arcade scene then released on the also dying Wii U before getting a foothold with a Switch port? The game has such a positive reception among Pokémon fans--even those who never played it--that you'd think a sequel would be a no-brainer! Yet after all this time, no such thing has seen the light of day.
But what if it did happen?
Let's take a deep dive on exactly what Pokkén Tournament 2 (or whatever name it got) could be like! Including an expanded roster that builds off the original game, with a detailed list of 20 newcomers (featuring popular requests, deep cuts, and a couple oddball picks) conveying why they'd be worthy choices and how they could play!

To me, the Season 2 choices would consist of the returning Blastoise, Hisuian Decidueye, Okidogi, Tyranitar, and Zygarde.
Also, you forgot Scale Shot for Kommo-o. Plus, i like a Idea of the Boss DLC Shadow Lugia, Regigigas, probably Kyurem Black, Zygarde Complete, Necrozma(Ultra), Shadow Rider Calvrex, and Ogerpon. The one with combined powers. Regigigas represent gen 3 and 4 nicely.

Nia’s voice actor performed so bad… it was genuinely painful
Not a difficult bar to clear, to be fair. And if New Snap is any precedent, Bamco could pull it off without much trouble.
"What. Do you. Mean?"
Read that in the voice of Nia
@@chimuoma390I can actually see that happening considering bandai was the one who created Digimon, and Namco being the one whom create the Pac-Man, Galaga, Pole Position, and Tekken series in the first place (They also did SoulCalibur as well and they can borrow move sets from that franchise as well), it'd be very interesting to see Digital Monster characters (filling up the other 35 slots in the rooster with 35 from the Pokemon series as well. But I would definitely say that either the 30th anniversary or 40th anniversary of either franchise (One in 1996 and the other in 1998/1999), I could definitely see this happening at some point in the future. But I do think they have to get Pokken Tournament off the ground first before they dive straight with Digimon in a separate mode (maybe an unlockable one if you ask me).
An understated part of Pokkén’s roster is that a lot of Pokémon’s animations take from Tekken characters. Pikachu doing Mishima-style karate most famously, but there’s also Charizard doing Devil Jin and True Ogre moves, Garchomp taking from Bryan Fury and Dragunov, and so on. With that in mind, I’m sure a lot of picks for a Pokkén 2 would go a similar route, such as Incineroar using stuff from Armor King, a very Kuma-coded Bewear, or the most obvious pick ever, Hitmontop just straight-up being Eddy Gordo.
How about Kangaskhan behaving like Roger and/or Roger Jr.?
Bewear would be a lovely inclusion
Greninja could very easily take from the Ravens & Victor (who's also a Raven, but still).
I knew about the Tekken references, but I didn't want to choose newcomers _based_ on who could be counterparts to Tekken characters. I think the roster would've been less interesting if I had! Still plenty of room for the newcomers I chose to have a few iconic Tekken moves in their sets--if the first game's devs could make Pikachu of all things fight like a Mishima, there's no need to be so restrictive.
Zacian is added to the list
Competitive: *Nervous sweating*
Pokken 2 Vs Digimon Battle Spirit 2!KaiserGreymon VS Zacian Crowned!Dragon Slash VS Behemoth Blade!Who Wins!
@@chimuoma390 S H U T
If I were the devs, I'd throw in a cheeky reference or two to Zacian's competitive reputation. The strongest parts of the moveset could feel restrained animation-wise, as if Zacian is intentionally holding back to make it a fairer fight.
@@Delzethinhey at least violet nerf the heck out of it
Now then
If they only nerf a certain stupid horse
While I understand that you swapped them out for a regional variant, I still feel like Scizor is popular enough to justify keeping around. Likewise, I’m not sure they’d go *as* wild with the story as you’re suggesting here. But I could see something along those lines working in a SF6 World Tour mode kind of way.
As an aside, I’m surprised you didn’t include Incineroar as the heel to Hawlucha’s face. That feels like a rivalry match waiting to happen.
Pokken is a fighting game where all the characters feel unique and (IMO) shouldn't be scrapped. Characters like Crogunk, Libre, and Shadow Mewtwo are well-designed fighters and it would be disheartening to remove them.
Yeah, the Scizor part was really my only big issue here. I get wanting a regional variant of some kind, but Scizor is not only one of, if not, the best Bug-types to exist, but it was pretty alright in the game itself.
I can understand a fair bit of his cuts, but Scizor is the only one that I feel is truly a miss step.
That one really hurt me, considering that Scizor is my main.
To me it would be a waste. I'd rather them just keep all the characters of Pokken 1 and just add to that roster. Like you said, all the characters in Pokken are unique and have well realized and designed gameplay. It would make no sense to just do away with all that. I would say that for Pokken 2 I would take whatever Pokken has or did and just improve upon it and add to it. There's really no need to take away anything.
Imma be real, as a Scizor enjoyer, I wholeheartedly understand the sentiment of Scizor being a kinda odd exclusion... simultaneously tho, I don't think the people who play Pokken competitively would mind his absense, lul. He's a character a lot of people despise fighting against due to how comically overtuned his counter attack is
I know this would be a really weird, almost joke character, but I think playing as Pyukumuku and fighting the opponent with its massive hand would be incredibly fun
Ye, could be fun. Maybe super strong and long-ranged attacks but you need to also use the hand to move around as a drawback. So you would need to juggle parkouring through the map and attacking.
One thing I'd love to see is more Pokemom that aren't humanoid or quadrupeds. Chandelure was a bold choice by making a fighting game character out of a chandelier, and I'd LOVE to see what other movesets the devs could come up with for other such unusual designs.
One I've had in my head for a while thanks to a chat with a friend is Ferrothorn. It could use its vine-clubs to throw its body around as a weapon, creating a pokemon that's normally slow but packed to the brim with burst movement options by literally swinging itself around the field.
On an unrelated note, you have a voice perfect for narrating a documentary about how candy is made, and I do mean that in the best way possible.
I totally agree. One I like to think about is Crawdaunt. A heavyweight lobster with slow power attacks would be so much fun.
I think relegating Golisopod to an assist is a missed opportunity since the anime shows us how versatile it could be in a fighting game. Liquidation conjures a water katana for it to duel with, it has two giant arms for smashing and blocking attacks, the smaller arms for faster pokes, and the ability to fire pin missiles from the top of their shell like a tiny firework launcher. A giant samurai character with deceptively fast Rushdown options in First Impression and then bailing options in U-Turn make a hit and run style that I think would be extremely interesting.
Wish Ranamon Was In Digimon Battle Spirit 2!Her Beast Spirit:Calmaramon,And Her Ancient Form:AncientMermaimon!SHE WOULD MURDER GOLISOPOD LIKE THE BUG HE IS!
@@chimuoma390 literally who asked lmao
And Zoroark, a popular Unovan Pokemon that should have been there
@@piercemat331 I can see multitude of players picking Zoroark if any dark type Pokemon ever makes it into the game....Gees, it would be the one common fighting Pokemon seen in video game championship games if you ask me.
I'd prefer having one starter from each generation instead of giving certain gens two starters and have 3 of each starter type.
That’s not a bad approach, I could see that working out well. Under that scenario, I could see Serperior, Decidueye, and Meowscarda repping Grass, Charizard, Blaziken and Cinderace repping Fire, and Feraligatr, Empoleon, and Greninja repping Water.
Wouldn't be a bad idea, and also, what you mentioned should be something you unlock from the story mode of the game. This way ALL of the starters make it into the game, but you have to play the single player offline Co-Op or 1 player story mode in order to unlock them (similar to how many fighting games used to do that back in the 1990s and early 2000s).
I really love the roster for Pokken, it's the perfect match of popular, unique, and crazy.
Unovan Pokemon need to shine, give them Zoroark or a Starter or Vice Versa
My smile when Mienshao showed up cannot be understated. And Smeargle sounds awesome as well! And sweet little Cinccino.
Give me Zoroark as a speed class Pokemon
You know, I actually have a few Pokken fighter ideas as well…
Tyrnanitar
Class: Power
A huge juggernaut of a Pokémon that fills a similar niche to the play style Blastoise left behind. With probably the highest HP value among the roster, I envision Tyranitar as a counter attack centric brute that has lots of start and end lag on their attacks. But the start lag also has armor, so they live and die by managing their health accordingly and punishing opponents mistakes.
Genesect
Class: Technical
Admittedly, I’m stealing the same kind of gimmick Brawlfan1 made when he created a hypothetical Pokémon unite moveset for Porygon-Z. But I think it works well for them. A zoner that thrives on projectile pressure and analyzing the opponent’s response. But their big gimmick is the form of a move that, if it connects, gives Genesect a stat-buff and/or a new attack based on the data of the enemy. Basically, Genesect changes slightly to better counter the opponent’s class. For example, if they scan data off a power class, they get a little extra health to cope with the gap in strength. Maybe even a move that ignores armor effects. But with “meh” stats outside of the ones that are buffed by the scan and a poor disadvantage state overall. They’re a relatively easy robo-bug to squash if the enemy outsmarts them.
Top tier ideas man.
Zoroark; Class Speed; give him Night Daze as the Burst Finisher
@@piercemat331
Honestly, Zoroark seems more like a “Tricky” class Pokémon. Using it’s illusion powers to subtly mask its attack animations and catch opponents off guard with a move they weren’t expecting to get hit by. Or just using moves with similar animations. For example, they’d have a move that acts as a strong sucker punch but long end lag. And one that’s a command grab that only works when the opponent is shielding. The startup animations for both would have minor differences, but be very hard to tell apart.
A very strong gimmick, but Zoroark players NEED to mix it up frequently to keep the advantage. If they rely on specific moves too much, it boosts the chances of their rival seeing through the Mudsdale-crap and choking them with their oversized fur-do.
@@rodrickgoldberg2324 Zoroark is a speedster in UNITE and a tricky role does not need to be there, supporters should have been there in the next Pokken game; those who heal, support, or hinder the enemy
A reminder that Balanced is white
Speed is blue
Technique is green
and Power is red
Talonflame can be a speedy class character, Tsareena speedy, Ceruledge speedy, etc.
We really need more speed class Pokemon in Pokken
I really enjoy the inclusion of Cinccino and Dewott. Would probably main them if they were included in a potential Pokken 2. As for what rosters I’d want you to build… I want to see how you’d tackle a Disney fighting game roster, a redone Multiversus roster, and/or a redone Nickelodeon All Star Brawl Roster. Mostly the Disney fighting game roster though, and I suggest including Oswald in that.
Also worth noting that most Pokémon in Pokken have some fitting moves shared by a Tekken character or two they’re taken from, if possible (except Garchomp has Bryan Fury’s moves, Pikachu has EWGF and Dragon Uppercut, Scizor has Jack’s moves, Machamp having King’s moves, etc.)
Machamp should get removed
Oh, Pokken content? Neat, I’m down for that. I’m betting they’d probably wait until the Switch 2 is ready before announcing a sequel.
2:48 Wait, really?! I didn’t know that. Kinda bites to know that my favorite mon got dropped for the last game.
You really did Zamazenta dirty in favor of Zacian once again, poor dog can’t catch a break lol.
Overall, a solid roster, nobody here I’d really say doesn’t fit, though I’d maybe drop Meowscarada or Quaquaval in favor of a different Paldea pick, since we already got a lot of starters. My only other complaint is that we could maybe use another bulkier sized Mon on the roster.
Of the honorable mentions you showed, Breloom would be my pick, I feel like a lot of fun stuff could be done with their moveset.
In terms of other things like this, I wouldn’t mind you trying to theory craft a Fire Emblem fighting game. Maybe something similar to Soul Calibur could work well for that.
...Clodsire, perhaps?
Dude, upon looking up Namco's old fighting game franchise, SoulCalibur was one of those that was brought up and thought "Man, it would be cool to see some moves brought over from that game, considering it's been 15 years since the last game came out for the franchise, to be brought over into the fighting game."
@@bbletsplays1130 Man Clodsire included in the fighting game could definitely be similar to Snorlax, in a funny but also very powerful way.
FINALLY some quaquaval representation also!!
I like quaquaval. I agree though, its so underrated!
Don't get me wrong, quaquaval IS my favorite starter, but I would drop It for fuecoco. It is way more popular and there is a lack of small characters
@@axolotlstudios7918 Well, as mentioned to another person, you could unlock them via doing the story mode/campaign. Or if Namco and Game Freak want to go down the monetization way, make it available via Downloadable Content and such.
I feel like while Power seems the most fitting for Tinkaton up front, i'd actually argue for Tricky, using a variety of high hit/blockstun moves with low endlag to combo into it's only high damage attack, Gigaton Hammer.
Also, might I suggest a video on a theoretical modern sequel to Sonic the Fighters?
If it were up to me. I would love to see reuniclus in the game.
Agreed.
Would be cool
My unironic top pick
On the topic of roster videos, doing one for a hypothetical return of Marvel vs Capcom could be an interesting one, or maybe a hypothetical second attempt at a Castlevania fighting game.
Miles and Kamala would be top picks
@@MrSupersmash93 They were both almost playable, so that tracks.
RIP My boy Shadow Mewtwo😢
Dlc
Bruh rip my girl Pikachu Libre
@@xmansxtrachannel yeah, I used to not like her for basically being a last-minute insert for Hawlucha, but she is a unique fighter even if we already have a Pikachu 🤷♂
I'm just glad Hawlucha is finally there haha. Also excuse you Smeargle's FF class isn't blue mage but pictomancer!
How would the time traveler/parallel timeline person get a mon from both past and future? Unless you're implying that this would involve a scenario where both machines led to the same place, which is something I can get behind if only because it means the AIs can meet. But that's not really relevant to the events in Ferrum and just me rambling about the main games.
I understand that having a fairly balanced distribution of all the types would be tricky, especially when it comes to moveset creativity and potential, but having 10 out of 35 playable pokemon be Fighting types feels a bit extreme.
I like it a lot! I think the cuts are a shame but it’s not a big deal.
I’m so happy to see you include Smeargle. I mentioned it on discord and its fighting potential.
I can see Heracross as the sumo fighter in this roster. Akin to E Honda and Ganryu. Using arm thrusts, grapples, and tackles for moves. Maybe even a stomp as a low, taunt, and or intro animation. It stomped in Pokemon Stadium 2 when using earthquake in a very sumo fashion, after all.
Absol, Cinccino & Iron Valiant were great choices, though i would have gone with less starters
Pokken Tournament still has active online in May 2024, still super fun, and I hope it gets a sequel
I would have gone with Buzzwole as the ultra best rep. The dude was made for fighting games, and he’s one of the most popular ultra beasts.
Ultra Beasts are starving for reprenstation outside of Gen 7. Buzzwole is already in Unite so I think it's fair for the others to come in and take the spotlight. Then again, I wouldn't mind, I fucking love Buzzwole
I would love to see Hitmontop as DLC just because one of the costumes for it could be based on Eddie Gordo, who's a huge favorite of a Tekken character (since Hitmontop is based on Capoeira fighters, which is Eddie's fighting style)
Tsarenna, Ampharos & Hitmonchan for Pokken 2
Ampharos is a great pick.
Wow, TWO Pokemon videos in the same month? That's actually impressive!😆But anyway, yeah, I definitely wasn't expecting a Pokken Tournament 2 Roster speculation video, but I'm not complaining! I'd totally be up for a Pokken sequel (if Bandai Namco ever feels bothered enough to do so, that is, which let's hope they do), I just have NO idea how I would set up the roster myself especially since PT came out over a year before Gen 7, and now ever since then over 300 new species have been introduced, making it even harder to pick from. What makes it even harder is balancing fan favorites, Types, and Generations, and with there being (currently) 1025 Mons to choose from, it's extremely easy to just pick most wanted ones/fan favs, and call it a day without realizing any of the other factors to take account for, so, I think I'm just gonna let the devs decide on who to bring back, who to (probably) leave out, and what newcomers to add in (though I MAY try to tackle the handle myself at some point in the future). Same with the Support Pokemon. Be interested to see all the new modes Pokken 2 would introduce too! Regardless of what the future holds, hopefully Pokken Tournament 2 will finally happen so we can duke it out with our favorite creatures once more! Another solid video, Delzethin!😄I'd totally be up to seeing you tackle another roster buildup video sometime in the future! Keep up the amazing work!👍(Also, how you manage to continue avoid getting any copyright strikes for using clips from the Pokemon anime is beyond me. Probably because you have a VPN, or something.🤔)
I have some great pokemon choices for DLC including. Zoroark, Ivysaur, Noivern, Tsareena, Sylveon, Koraidon, Ampharos, Snorlax, Tyranitar, Zeraora, Deoxys, Sandslash, Infernape, Tabu Koko, Sirfetch’d, Obstagoon, Buneary, Buizel, Ceruledge, and Abomasnow. Just to name a handful of examples.
Lopunny with mega
What about Sneasler and Hisuian Decidueye?
Delzethin, I love your channel so much, I just had to subscribe!
This list looks very interesting! Still there are some pokemon i think that would fit perfectly here:
-Incineroar: Hes just built for this. A pokemon that uses wrestling thecniques along with his moves
-Deoxys: A potential technical type that can shift into his other forms
-Poliwrath: A versatile fighter capable of attacking both close and long range
-Inteleon: He would fit both as a tricky or speedster
-Urshifu (rapid strike): I decided that rapid strike would be better for this game as there could be more interesting movesets for him than the single strike style
-Medicham: Hes very underrated and he would def fit on this with his wide moveset and his mega evo
-Alolan sandslash: An ice type speedster more focused into close range
-Alolan marowak: I thought it would be cool but idk how to clasify it
-Obstagoon: funni shout boy
-Hisuian lilligant: Could be similar to quaquaval, but more elegant
-Tornadus: I just came up with this one, but the idea of tornadus throwing tornado punches is too cool, also changing to its totem form
-Thundurus: Similar to tornadus, but faster
I could see Rapid Urshifu taking moves from Leroy in particular
But also since single strike urshifu fighting style is based on bajiquan, it could take moves from Leo, or Julia
@@FiendKuroCherri never played tekken lol
This selection is interesting, but there is a couple glaring problems with your picks I feel. There were no more zoners/setup characters added to the roster (they’re not everyone’s favorite but they’re a necessary piece), and this list feels in favor of rushdown/standard characters than any role. Also I feel like Darkri and Scizor are popular enough to stick around for Pokken 2, they definitely have their own followings, and have pretty unique kits in the game (Darkri being a setplay demon and Scizor being a heavy mixup character).
No zoners. Please
I really like this idea of you making hypothetical rosters, it's an interesting new format I'd love to see you experiment more with
How about deciding rosters for a new Marvel vs Capcom?
Cinccino?!?! This is the best video ever
I absolutely love the Dewott inclusion, I love that guy.
I know I wasn't the only one thinking of Lycanroc!
I was gonna have a implement of all forms somehow in the game with the day form a speed based fighter, dusk power and dusk standard
you have no idea the joy i felt seeing dewott.

This would be by far the biggest fighting game roster by far. 100 characters, as compared to smash ultimate, which has 86.
This is by far the best pokken roster I’ve seen so far. It has both the quality and the quantity.
Got me wanting to make my own roster now!
I always imagined a game dedicated to starter Pokemon! I think a game like Pokken Tournament would have amazing synergy with them (with dlc being added for the further generations) and that way the picks wouldn't be so obscure. I'm sure many others would love to see there partners fight in a Pokken Tournament styled game!
Also, yes I would love to see more roster building videos.
Awesome theory video! Been around your content for a while but glad to see more and more people talking about Pokken needing to make a return someday!
As someone who’s been apart of the game for a long time, to this day in fact, it would suck to see Scizor go as he has been my main from the beginning. Honestly though, if Kleavor stepped up to take the mantle for the evolution line, I would gladly train it to be Scizor’s successor of Pokken!
This video was so fun!!! Loved how the newcomers were broken apart in between sections of other various updates and changes! I'm hardly much of a fighting game super fan outside of casual Smash, but Pokken is one I loved back in the WII U days and seeing all the newcomers and DLC brought over to the Switch port made me super happy!! Lots of logical and cool picks, even if I sense SOME Smash newcomer speculation bias? Haha I can't blame you though, picks like Zacian and Lycanroc would do wonders for making the roster more varied in terms of body type regardless of if they were popular Smash Ultimate speculation picks!
Surprised to see you keeping Braixen around where I feel most people would have gotten rid of them, personally I'd hope they stick around, they feel too iconic to Pokken now to just get rid of haha, and bringing in Dewott felt like such a charming idea!
When thinking about these I always struggle to think of how to evenly distribute newcomers and returning fighters across all the various generations, wouldn't want to make it so half the roster is Gen 1 while only one Gen 5 mon gets in... (Oh wait...), so this was awesome!! Lots of mon I would have wanted to add myself although losing Scissor and Darkrai IS a little sad since they were some of my most requested 'mon from the original and I was so hyped when they got added to the arcade machines, and later the Switch port... I would have loved to add Lopunny to the list for its awesome mega/burst potential, and maybe Zoroark as a tricky character!
Smeargle is actually a Pokemon I thought was likely for a potential Pokken sequel. Didn't put a ton of thought into my picks when I made them but it was neat seeing a more organized look at what a sequel roster could be still mention them
Love the ideas for the roster. I would think an interesting final boss character(s) would be corrupted versions of Koraidon and Miraidon that are shown to be linked to the source of this Paradox Energy.
Goods luck waiting for that one.
I like the list overall and you already mentioned some flaws I had with it. However, there are some entries I think “thematically” and not are missing.
The 2 Urshifus should definitely be in the game. It only seems fitting.
I would love to see more out there choices. Spidops is one I’d make a Tricky style. Setting up sticky webs and silk traps.
Falinks would be one of those cute choices I’d love to see.
That’s a just a couple that immediately came to mind for me.
I think it would be interesting if Tinkaton had a momentum mechanic so to speak. If you follow up whiffing certain attacks with other certain attacks there will be less startup because tinkaton is using the momentum from the previous swing in the new one. This could help them get in easier and you would have to choose between fast yet predictable follow-ups, or go for a more risky mix.
Ain't no way you included Cinccino, did not expect that at all, and i love it
Great video as Always!
Can you remake Peach's moveset?
Due to her having a new game after so long, you could use Princess Peach's showtime as the main ispiration, but still could have moves that reference other games where She was playable, like Super Mario RPG for example
I think it's very likely we will get a Pokken 2 on the next system
Thanks for the video. I hope we get to see more pokémon with non-bipedla bodies.
2:58 how does Absol grab in a way that's clearly defined as a grab? Personally I think THAT is the reason it was probably cut and why Suicune wound up as the only quadruped, the vast majority of them would fail this fundamental part of a moveset
Personally, I'd swap it for Sylveon
7:31 same question, Midnight would avoid the issue but the other 2 who actually fit into the speed category have to find an answer
17:29 I guess her hair ribbon's could work certain media shows that's where she holds her sword when not in use, but I'd rather Zamazenta gets SOMETHING instead
Some absolutely awesome picks here that I'm absolutely dying to see made real now, especially smeargle and those last two! If I got to change one thing, it'd be swapping Mienshao for Falinks. Oh, and I don't know if there's a rights issue or something, but I think it would be wayyyyyyy cooler to have stages set in existing locations from past pokemon games, rather than unfamiliar locales- massive missed opportunity with the original game, IMO. I'd give anything to see some iconic spots like Sootopolis or the Ilex forest or Mt. Moon reimagined with the full level of detail that Pokken provides.
I see a few other people in the comments putting down their roster wishlists, so I’m gonna throw my hat into the ring with some picks I think would be cool!
Arbok (Power Type)
Low jump heights and low speed? Sure, that’s understandable. A long model? He’s a snake, why not? However, being so big and slow, what would he do? Grapple! These guys can crush steel drums down flat with no problem, I can absolutely see it being a grappler with less emphasis on throwing the opponent in exchange for raw power!
Wobbuffet (Tricky Type)
Alright, so incredibly weak attacks overall, but good health and a good shield! How do you work with this Titanium blow dart? Counter mechanics. Make it extremely punishable, but also make it rewarding to hit with good damage!
Deoxys (Technical Type)
Ok, I know I’m kinda snatching ideas here, but come on! 4 archetypes in one! You’ve got your standard all rounder in base form, your glass cannon attack form, your slow, bulky defence form, and your ninja-like speed form! It’s perfect!
Lickylicky (Standard type):
Yes really, this one. It’s cool! It can throw its weight around with rolling and slamming attacks, and it can have surprising range thanks to its tongue!
Archeops (Power type)
Those outrageous bass stats aren’t for show, this monster is here to hit hard and move fast! However, there’s a caveat…defeatist. Because we can’t have nice things, where *most* Pokémon get their rage mechanic, he gets sorrow, where his attack damage decreases, his animations change to be more halfhearted, and the music muffles.
Diancie (Technical Type)
I feel like I’ve got too many brawlers, so how about a mage? Clumsy up close, she manages to trip while floating! At a range, however, she’s majestic, making even gardevoir look amateur!
Passimian (Technical)
He throw coconut. Okay but in all seriousness he should have a mechanic like K. Rool’s crown! He throws it and can pick it up again! Too much damage and it breaks, being unusable for that round and severely nerfing his combat skill…conversely when he uses his synergy burst…give him THREE COCONUTS!
Corviknight (Power Type)
A knight who uses the air to his advantage in order to pressure the opponent with his bulk! He also gets to fly longer than anyone else! (Yeah I’m getting tied of writing)
Ogrepon (Technical Type)
Okay, ik it’s an easy choice, but come on! A weapon user who can chose between power (Hearthflame mask) speed (Wellspring Mask) or bulk (Cornerstone Mask) to augment your attacks in different ways!
I'm just happy that my main Gardevoir is still in the roster. Like that most of the original's are still here and even Nia makes a return! As for newcomers Kommo-o, Absol and Iron Valiant look to be my favourites. Both them and Smeargle fit into the roster very well. If I had my way tho the roster would be filled with my favourite 'mons for sure (Venusaur, Hydregion, Magmar, Hippowdon, Ab- oh wait they're already in the roster, Ampharous, etc). Maybe new megas from the upcoming Legends game can provide fighter inspiration too. After all, the mons transforming is super cool visually.
Great video
Thank you for standing up to the phase shifting and RPS elements of Pokken. I see way too many videos about Pokken saying that these elements should be abandoned, and it's so silly. If you just want a 2D fighter, or just want an arena fighter, there are plenty of games that already give you that (hell, if you specifically want a Pokemon 2D fighter, you could always play the fan-made Type Wild or Close Combat). There's no other game that plays quite like Pokken, and the game has it's fans, so I think it's silly to suggest that a sequel should abandon this uniqueness.
For held items, I was thinking that they could maybe replace the cheer skills of the first game. Cheer skills are kinda weird and confusing to explain to my friends anytime we pop in the game for some casual matches, but choosing which held item you want your fighter to hold for the entire match could be interesting (especially if they go the extra mile to show some of the items on the Pokemon's actual model).
Your roster picks are pretty solid. It's kinda hard to go wrong with something like this. There's so many Pokemon to pick from, you'd really have to go out of your way to pick Pokemon that wouldn't really work or be all that interesting. Your choices are maybe a tad starter heavy if anything, but even then the starters you picked are solid. If I was going off of my own personal bias, I'd have Golurk, one of the Zoroarks, Tyrantrum, and Jolteon somewhere on the roster too, but I can't complain about your picks. I especially like that you included Absol. Such a shame that Absol was planned for the first game, but never happened, not even in DLC.
This is not the way I envisioned a Pokken 2, but you buttered me up by including Dewott on your own.🥰
I adore Smeargle just being Double from skullgirls, it fits so well.
I've never played Pokken, but I've been getting more and more interested to try it out recently. One thing that I feel makes it stand out from other fighting games that your roster doesn't really utilize is the fact that Pokken can introduce fighters with completely non-human body structures and have it make perfect sense. I'm talking stuff like Aegislash and Chandelure, and I feel like your proposed roster doesn't really delve into that concept aside from Chandelure coming back. My personal pick for this would be Glimmora, but I'm biased. Something like Magnezone, Serperior, or Ferrothorn could also work well here.
With mien shao, blaziken already has high jump kick figured out how it should work, it is his crazy fast dive kick
I like the roster quite a bit, but taking out croagunk and no urshifu stung a little bit... But altogether I think it's a pretty diverse roster, and tinkaton was a fantastic pick! I'd love to see more hypothetical rosters for other games, or if you're willing to get more into mechanics, I'd love to see what an arms 2 could look like!
A playable Dewott would be incredible. I'd definitely be using him in battle
Tapu Koko would be great for Pokken, I love how it hops in place like a boxer.
Nice video!
I generally don't see any reason the old roster, especially with how much bigger fighting game rosters are getting nowadays.
Also I think form changing Pokémon like Meloetta or maybe even Ogerpon would be great choices as it'd serve to spice up movesets. Like Meloetta's forms would change between long range and short range attacks and Ogerpon's would change attributes or effects based on what Mask is on.
My boy dewott was mentioned! Yay!
this game is so gas i need a sequel DESPERATELY!!!!!
What do you think of doujin/fangame pokemon fighters like type wild or close combat? The way they handle a pokemon fighter is a bit different from what pokken does, and while there is a bit of overlap in roster decisions, some of them wouldve been interesting to look into for this vid
Also croagunk deserves better, you cut him but didnt really give a reason for it or talk about what wouldve taken his place ;_;
Fire Emblem FighterZ next?
Nah
Soul Emblem
Breloom has always been my favorite but people forget *how* he attacks. Those stubby little arms extend out like grappling hooks!! No t-rex arms here! He will get up in your business no matter the distance :)) a speedy show off with some tricks up his sleeve, sending haymaker after haymaker with surprising strength and a diverse set of tools to throw off your opponent, keep your momentum and don’t slow down or else you’ll get squashed. Frail and prone to being kicked around you have to find creative ways to keep on your toes and more importantly, knock your opponents off of theirs!
The fangame "PokémonCloseCombat" actually got it right!
I love pokken and this roster would be amazing but as a pikachu libre main i really hope he would make it to the next game
Well if you're asking for ideas for other game rosters - I'd love to see a hypothetical roster for a Pokémon vs Digimon crossover title.
(My _main_ changes to your proposed roster are basically purely personal bias stuff that I'm pretty sure no one else would agree with - Stuff like 'can we cut Gengar in favour of Haunter?' - The sort of stuff that's inevitable when the potential picklist is over 1000 at this point.)
There's a lot of good Pokémon suitable for Pokken 2, especially from Gen 8, Hisui and Gen 9 Pokémon are fitted, Sneasler is fitting, Iron Valiant designed for this which is a good pick for you to choose for this, Flutter Mane too as well as Iron Thorns and Iron Hands, Skeledurge is suited as support with it's signature move, Miraidon and Koraidon are a good addition to add, also Hisuian Decidueye is a good alternative skin or option for Decidueye, so yeah
You do know you could just make Zacian use Burst gauge for performing moves, this then doesn't make it need the entire removing of the damage buff, but I would guess that Zacian would be a Gengar situation, that when it has burst it turns into it's gilded form to change its entire moveset and therefore starts in its rusted form.
Sorry for the large amount of text, but I feel like Zacian fit better having it's Burst mode be its Crowned form. That way it could still be somewhat powerful, but having it's brokenness be locked behind the burst mode, which would take a while to charge to compensate.
Also, I never knew about the cut content for Pokkén. Cut content is incredibly fascinating to me, so could you provide a source?
As for the characters I want added the most are Chesnaught, Hitmonlee (though, I wouldn't be mad if Hitmontop was added instead) and Zygarde, to name a few. Chesnaught would be a tank with its signature move being a command counter, Hitmonlee being the games equivalent of Min Min, though it would have an easier time fighting at long range using tools like mega kick and rolling kick, while Zygarde would play something like Susano'o from BlazBlue, with it starting at 10% form, but changing forms when certain conditions are met.
Holy shit I just picked this game up again
I can see quaquaval playing like a mix of lili from tekken and manon from street fighter. Fabulous
I feel like 36 is the perfect quantity of pokemon. At least 2 of each type (without counting double types), 4 from each generation or at least tied to it on some way (like being a regional variant), and 6 tied to the 6 stats (hp, atk, def, sp.atk, sp.def) to better define their roles and archetypes (a hp pokemon could be a grappler, a sp.atk could be a zoner, and so on)
I wish this was real would definitely buy pokkén 2 especially if it has this roster
Deoxys as a technical stance change fighter. Attack Form: high damage > lowered defenses, Defense Form: high defense > lowered speed, Speed Form: high mobility > lowered attack, and standard form for a balanced default mode of play.
thats what i thought lol. I love deoxys since i read the manga
As for DLC, it would be cool to have one Pokémon from each gen, which could be divided into two seasons of four characters, plus one character that would be added as a bonus for buying the season pass, like Piranha Plant in Smash Ultimate.
As for character picks, I think some of the former support Pokémon coukd use an upgrade to playable, like Dragonite or Mimikyu
I think ceruledge would be a must in a new pokken
Its one of the coolest modern pokemon designs and they are giving it a lot of love in the anime
My favorite pokemon is lurantis so i would love to see her in pokken as well
This would be a great idea. Pokken always feels so under the radar, but I love the game, despite how little I've actually had the chance to play it, since none of my friends were interested (well, I have a friend who was interested, but he's so aware that he's a bad sport that he won't play with me cause he knows he can't keep his cool in competitive games)
Neat ideas!
all I really want an Ultra Beast, a paradox mon, a Mega Evolution, and maybe a regional form
since they are really important subclasses
It would also be funny if Missingno. gets added somehow
So glad you kept Suicune in! Suicune had such a unique fighting style imo and it would’ve been a shame to have it cut (well that and it may or may not be my favorite pokemon)
Gotta respect the Dewott pick👍
After this, I would love to see you make a roster for a hypothetical Fire Emblem fighting game by Arc System Works
As a fan of Absol and Cinccino, I like this roster
Pokken was so fun and I would love a second involvement but I think there's some key reps missing and I'm sure that all fighters could return. Koraidon, Hisuian Zoroark and Tyranitar are my top three picks for newcomers.
In the story I think it'd be really cool if they just said "screw it Pokken can pull from all canon" and legit just made it shadow Pokémon since Mewtwo was Shadow Mewtwo and shadow Pokémon are extra aggressive but their immergance is spreading it.
Having three villains.
One from the Colosseum and XD universe.
One from the past.
One from the future.
They all want to return home and are working together to do so.
The first is partnered with a Shadow variant of a newcomer legendary/mythical.
The second is partnered with a Shadow Koraidon.
The third is partnered with a Shadow Miraidon.
In the story and manages to hold its own against a Shadow Pokémon briefly in the qualifiers for a new tournament. You get recruited by the trainer and Anne from the first game to investigate the new phenomenon. Later in the story your partner succumbs to the Shadow energy but overcomes it because of your bond unlocking this games new mechanic where you enter a shadow state increasing your damage but increasing the damage you take for a brief moment.
Ngl I would’ve liked to see Incineroar, but still good choices for the roster!
I feel like there are some really obvious additions they could make seeing the current direction of the series. I feel like Zoroark, Gliscor, Inciniroar, Lopunny, Kingambit/Bisharp, and Zygarde all have a fair shot at being added due to their popularity or recent relevance.
Personally I'd want to see Goodra somewhere in the roster, purely because they are my favorite mon. I wouldn't care whether it'd be Gen 6 original or Hisuian variant, or even that they'd likely be a grappler character (an archetype I've typically struggled to use in other fighting games), I just really love Goodra and want to see it get more attention.
Pokken 2 would make 2024 the best year in gaming
i feel like meloetta could be a really good technical fighter with her two forms
Me seeing Scizor get cut: Nooooo! My friend!
Me seeing Toxtricity, Kleavor, and Tinkaton get added: I’m suddenly feeling a lot better.
I can't be the only one who sort of feels like Pikachu Libré and Shadow Mewtwo are core to Pokken's identity.
