Id also argue that as a bulky defensive pokemon the fairy type benifits meganium more as even though it has one more weakness, it has 4 more resistances and an immunity, and the fairy type carries lots of healing and status moves that would benifit a bulky defensive mon a little more, plus the ground typing would still make it weak to all of those gyms you mentioned, pryce being a 4 times

Blastoise: Water/Steel (since Squirtle's shell is based on a rusty coin too)
Meganium: Grass/Fairy (Since its breath brings plants back to life, similar to the Florges line)
Typhlosion: Fire/Ground (same reasoning as yours, very volcano inspired)
Feraligatr: Water/Dragon (It learns quite a few Dragon moves like Dragon Tail, Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance, Outrage, Scale Shot and Breaking Swipe)
Sceptile: Grass/Dragon (It's very reminiscent of a Velociraptor, plus Dragon type E4 Drayton uses one.)
Serperior: Grass/Dragon (Dragons have always had the kind of prestige associated with royalty, plus there's large mythological snakes like the Basilisk)
Samurott: Water/Fighting (It would be the perfect counter to its Hisuian forme, plus its dex entries mention training a fighting style like many fighting types.)
Rillaboom: Grass/Ground (it gets A LOT of Ground type moves, plus you could interpret its drumming as sounding like an earthquake.)
Cinderace: Fire/Electric (Just because I don't want another Fire/Fighting type, plus he can be lightning fast. It just needs more Electric moves than Electro Ball)
Inteleon: Water/Ghost (Completely agree with the reasoning that Ghost type fits its invisibility, as many Ghost types turn invisible too.)

Typhlosion would be much better suited as a Fire/Normal type. Typhlosion takes inspiration from a rodent, and most rodents in the Pokémon canon are aligned with the Normal type. Also, Normal moves make up a plurality of Typhlosion’s movepool, behind Fire type. And lastly, when looking at Typhlosion’s design, the complete lack of any standout features really adds to its “normalness.” Not to mention, Fire/Normal would’ve been an amazing contradiction to its Hisuian form, which is Fire/Ghost. IMO, Typhlosion would’ve been an absolute beast if it were Fire/Normal with Adaptability as its HA.

I don't think all starter Pokémon need a secondary type. However, I believe a few starter Pokémon would benefit from a secondary type and improved level up learnsets to take advantage of it. For example, Grovyle and Sceptile should have been Grass-Dragon type. When Treecko evolves at Level 16, Fury Cutter is a terrible move for Grovyle to learn. This is the perfect time for Grovyle to learn Dragonbreath because it will actually help Grovyle and Sceptile with all the early-mid game gyms they struggle with.

@@claudionosotti8812 it has 0 to do with pink, there’s barely any pink, and everything to do with it being able to bring plants back to life. It has a mystical connection to nature that goes beyond just being a grass type and they even reflected that in Pokémon Snap. Before the fairy type was added, psychic would’ve fit it better than pure grass, since it was the de facto magic type. Fairies have a connection to nature which is why Celebi should’ve been changed too.
Nature magic is the same as fairy magic. Meganium calls on that more than any other non-psychic grass Pokémon. It being a dinosaur is the only thing that gives the impression of the dragon type. But it doesn’t call upon the same draconic energy the dragons do. Aurorus, Rampardos, Basdiodon, and even the pseudo dragon Aerodactyl are directly based on dinosaurs and the only fossil Pokemon that got the dragon type was Tyrantrum which really only got it as it’s based on the T-Rex the “king” of the dinosaurs. Aurorus is even a similar species of dinosaur to Meganium but since it has a different type of energy, ice, it isn’t a dragon.
Meganium can be a pseudo dragon like Charizard, Gyarados, and Aerodactyl, as they’re not dragons but can summon that energy and look like dragons too, but its strong connection to nature matches the fairy type more.

The Goodra line is based on medieval art of knights fighting giant snails that was done similarly to art from the same time of knights fighting dragons.
Applin is a WYRM in an apple.
Tatsugiri is based on Koi, which are associated with Dragons in many East Asian cultures, Lungfish, aka Dragon Fish. Curly Form is referencing Shachihoko, a sea monster with the body of a Carp and the head of a Dragon.
If you need an example of a Dragon Type without a real reason to be Dragon Type, go with Tyrantrum. (Although, Tyrantrum at least has the king stuff, which helps it fit the Dragon Type better)

Yeah why isn't Blastoise a steel type? It's literally carrying cannons and it would have been a perfect balance for the types being immune to poison from vena and strong to flying. Plus gen 1 definitely needed more dual types.
Gen two I'd make them grass fairy water dark fire electric as I can see cinda line having static fur and storms can cause fires. Mega would be more interesting as a fairy type to give more options. Toda line dark would be hax
Treeko line dark or dragon is cool but I'd love to see grass steel as it basically sharpens itself like a sword to fight and would be very powerful that way too. Sure fire destorys it but more options to cut down foes
Snivy line I'd go with fairy as a mythical creature that sheds it's arms and legs to become a snek. Sounds cool

    Before Watching the Video:
Blastoise - Water/Steel (Gives us another Steel Starter and its pumps makes sense with Steel. Just introduce Steel a Gen earlier. Kids will be surprised and excited when Blastoise has a secondary typing that they didn’t see on any other Gen 1 Mon (except Magnemite, if they saw that one). Plus, Blastoise is now immune to Venasaur’s poison attacks)
Meganium - Grass/Dragon (Gives Gen 2 a second Dragon, while also fitting Meganium’s theme)
Feraligatr - Water/Ice (Feraligatr’s main coverage move is Ice Fang, and it’s pads may be said to be for insulation, as alligators are cold-blooded and prefer warmer waters. Plus, Ice badly needs a good rep for the early Gens and this allows Feraligatr to be of better use against Clair and Lance)
Typhlosion - Fire/Ground (Main move is legit Eruption, and Cyndaquil is based on an Echidna, which is known to use its sharp claws to burrow underground)
Sceptile - Grass/Dark (Sceptile is legit known for being kinda shifty. In the anime, Treecko has a toothpick in its mouth. In Mystery Dungeon, Grovyle is seen as a thief for most of the game)
Serperior - Grass/Poison (Serperior is literally a snake. And its main tool, Coil, is Poison Type. Its designation as regal kinda reminds me of Poison, which Royalty kinda symbolized due to their underhanded tactics and toxic vices. Plus, Serperior reminds me of a King Cobra, which is highly venomous)
Samurott - Water/Rock (Samurott’s armor and shells just seem to make Rock the obvious choice)
Rillaboom - Grass/Dark (Rillaboom’s main thing is music, which is associated with Dark in Galar via Team Yell. Its long hair may be seen as a rebellious thing and its drums kinda signify a rock theme anyway)
Inteleon - Water/Ghost (This lizard is legit a ghost. It is a spy that is an expert at camouflage and evasion)
    Cinderace - Fire/Fighting (Legit a soccer player)

I disagree with Typhlosion and Inteleon. There's nothing really Ground type about Typhlosion, I think that's a real stretch. I works well as a pure Fire type, or could even be Fire and Normal as it seems like a normal animal that also controls fire. It seems much more of a normal animal than other Fire Starters. And as for Inteleon, you can't just add Ghost type for its personality, it has to be dead and it's not dead. The Ghost type could work if it was incorporated into the lore and design, but if you just take Inteleon as-is and slap on the Ghost type it just doesn't work.

    • @Shalakor

There's already been three other Starter's with about the same level of lore excuse for gaining the Ghost type. Sure, Skeledirge and Hisuian Typhlosion have connections to spirits while still being alive for their lore, but Decidueye has no actual death lore at all, being totally based on skillset. ...Though, yeah, Psychic could also work for Inteleon's abilities, and naming convention, basically the hero counterpart to the supervillain inspiration Orbeetle (though, that might also be an argument for Ghost Inteleon).

What always bothers me when people are like "oh but if they had xyz type their learnset doesn't support the STAB outside of tms" well.. if the type *was* part of it they would have naturally gotten more of those moves since that is logical (I just ignoring lots of the very early gens lack of STAB for mons) so I'm glad you mostly took "vibes" into consideration and just said "yeah they don't currently have the moves but they'd get them"
I'm also glad you didn't do the "oh the Mega is xyz so we'll just slap that on" when.. Megas aren't even set in stone ie some replace types like Mega Charizard X or Mega Altaria while Mega Aggron *loses* Rock outright with no replacement.. so.. having Sceptile change actually still is perfectly logical

Finally someone that wants to give meganium the dragon type it deserves instead of the boring fairy "because it's a pink flower" idea, i know you went by design for your choices but looking at meganium's role as a bulky supporter pokemon i really can't get behind the idea of ADDING a new weakness to steel type, making meganium even weaker vs its own generation's boss fights instead of choosing the type that not only fits its design but also its role.
Also, I know you tried to keep variety and I appreciate the thought process behind some of your choices but I think if the fire starters can have 3 canonically fighting types (4 if we count your idea of making cinderace a fighting type too), then sceptile and serperior can be dragons too, and samurott could get the steel type so we would have 3 fire - fighting, 3 water - steel and 3 grass - dragon to create some sort of trend for each of the primary type.
Last thing i'd do is giving cinderace the electric type, it's fast and I think there's a mention about the fact that scorbunny creates heat by friction bc it runs very fast, so i can def see it creating electricity too

Serperior gets the popular dragon secondary type bc of the interaction between contrary and draco meteor, being "regal" is not necessairly a dragon type feature, I could also see it being psychic type bc of this reason like other "regal" pokemon (slowking, calyrex for example) where the psychic type could reflect the power and control it has over other pokemon
Meganium is often seen as a fairy type bc it's a gentler pokemon that can heal and calm others, with a more feminine design, but we also have other dragon types that fit the gentle dragon category like drampa and goodra, so while both types could fit I prefer dragon over fairy. The problem with Blastoise with Steel type: It's not weak to Venusaur anymore.
I think Water/Rock fits better. It is 4x weak to Grass, but in exchange can hit Charizard for 4x damage as well.
This also fixes the problem of Steel not being in gen 1.

I really liked your pick for the second types to the starters, because most of them are what I thought would also fit. Here are a few second types that I think could fit for the starters:
Meganium - Grass/Fairy (cause of Meganium healing nature.)
Typhlosion - Fire/Dark (since honey badger's are fierce.)
Sceptile - Grass/Electric (Sceptile is fast and that Mega Sceptile get's the Lightning Rod ability.)
Serperior - Grass/Steel (cause of Serperiors bulk.)
Rillaboom - Grass/Fighting (can learn a lot of Fighting moves.)
Cinderace - Fire/Electric (cause of Cinderace speed.)
Inteleon - Water/Flying (Inteleon can glide and that air is invisible.)

  • @volcanbolt12
    @volcanbolt12 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I think the common problem between Meganium, Sceptile and Serperior is that, because they're all reptiles, it's hard to NOT give them the Dragon type to all three; however, I'd swap Meganium and Serperior secondary types because of their demeanor in the dex entries. For Sceptile, I think Dark can work, but I can see why GF tried to avoid having two pokèmon, with the same type combo, within the same region. Also, you really upset me with Cinderace: we literally have a evolutionary line, whose main theme is about being a soccer who RUNS... and you picked the Fighting type. 😤
    #ElectrictypeforCinderace
PS: I don't even like Cinderace (due to the soccer theme), but I'd prefer avoid another Fire/Fighting... we don't want another "Incineroar" incident, please 😅

Gen 2 the only change would be Meganium as a Fairy Type
Gen 5 is a Total Makeover with all 3 Starters changing. Serperior gets Grass/Dragon with a Dragons move pool that includes Overheat, Samurott goes from Quadrupedal to Bipedal, gets the Fighting Type, and access to Sacred Sword and a Hidden Ability Change to Sharpness once it becomes available, and Emboar goes from Bipedal to Quadrupedal, gets a Type Change from Fire/Fighting to Fire/Rock, swaps its Special Attack and Speed Stats, and swaps out its Hidden Ability to Rock Head to take advantage of STAB Head Smash and Flare Blitz.
Gen 8 Cinderace gets Fire/Electric, Intellion gets Water/Ghost, and Rillaboom gets Grass/Rock

Here’s my unique reason for serperior having the Grass fairy typing that I’d want it to have. The reason why is because Serperior is apparently based on the Fleur de lis, and in pokemon the move Fleur Cannon is a fairy type move. In fact it’s the fairy type equivalent of leaf storm and the often requested for serperior Draco meteor, perfect for use with it’s contratry ability.

Based on Serperior's regal appearance, I think psychic would fit far better than fairy. Nobility is symbolized by being a higher authority, above menial labor, just like the archetype psychic pokemon who would rather use their minds than their brawn (they also are normally absolutely dogshit at taking hits). A calm mind, giga drain, leaf storm/frenzy plant, light screen Serperior would be so broken, but it's type weaknesses would be enough to justify that it's balanced.
