    Since I bought a Tesla before 1/1/17, before Tesla ended Free Unlimited Supercharging, I've never had to "pay at the pump" for Supercharging. And I just traded in my 2016 Model S for a 2024 Model X and took advantage of the Free Supercharging transfer and Free FSD transfer. So, I won't be paying for Supercharging for another 8 years, at least. Hooray!! On the other hand, getting access to Tesla's Supercharger Network back in those days was a $2,000 Option at the time of purchase. So, technically, I DID have to pay a LOT up front to get "Free Unlimited Supercharging!" Boooo!! And the final irony... I hardly ever use the Supercharger Network since you charge to full every night at home. Only on road trips do you need it --- UNLESS you don't have access to home or work charging. But if you have a house and an electrical outlet (especially a 240v/50amp outlet), then 99% of the time you don't need to Supercharge. Your gas station is your garage!

Still, an almost pointless location for the only Tesla charger in the state. We need 4 or 5 other locations - Launceston, Hobart, somewhere in the central highlands, east coast and the west coast.

  • @dingbatt
    @dingbatt 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    It’s a shame that here in NZ, where the grid is 80% renewables, Tesla Superchargers are the same cost or higher than other networks. And that’s for Tesla owners, let alone add a subscription fee to that! The SCs are by no means ubiquitous here yet, so not “the best network” in this case. Add to that the imposition of Road User Charges (per km tax) and it is now more expensive to run an EV in NZ than an economical petrol car. Tesla would need to drop their SC price by 30% to even that out.

      GM's new network collaboration is all pull through like at a gas station. And GM has the pickup that has the range for towing. (Fwiw, I own a Tesla sedan, so back in superchargers are just fine for me. But now that EVs that tow are a realistic thing...Out of Spec channel has some good videos on testing that on Colorado mountain roads...pull through is becoming a useful thing. Also for non Tesla vehicles, with charge port not on the driver's side back corner, charging at Superchargers.)

    Tesla's sales is coming to a halt in Europe. Where is the long awaited Model Y refresh? Tesla is no longer having the EV market for itself. Raw performance figures and frugality on consumption is no longer enough. A customer also need to feel that he/she is getting something new and compelling. It's not for nothing that other car companies have regular facelifts and new versions at regular intervals. And current Model Y simply has too many negatives and people know it's possible to do better, just look at Model 3 Highland or a number of the German car manufacturers.
