I have a 2013 charger 392 with a NAG1 with a SHR valve body in it. With a custom tune it shifts amazing, maybe a bit firm for a daily driver though. The car is just as fast as a 8 speed 392 charger.
Karl Schroen I don’t have a tune (2013 SRT8 Superbee) but people underrate the 5 speed it’s pretty damn fast for what it is, not the fastest shifting but the gearing is crazy, I go 30-80 in one gear lmao.
My engine makes the best power at the higher rpm range. I drive a Chrysler 300 with the v6 and nag1. But, it's supercharged and customed tuned with headers and exhaust. The Nag1 might be a dinasaur compared to todays trans tech but it still kicks butt. Very versatile and fast. The lowest shift timing I was able to achieve was 300ms. Anything less than that and it is harsh as hell.
580nm is only on paper. Guys have boosted nag1 cars up to way more power and even a 250 shot and it held up. Common power is around 550 tq then the valve body needs an upgrade which is cheap and it'll shift way faster. Nag1's are also cheaper to build. 8 speed is better stock for stock, but you can build a nag1 cheaper and it's just as reliable.

Hi. I am thinking to do a complete engine and trans swap on my 2015 police charger 5speed for another police car but 2021 8speed the is available for cheap on the auction. Do you think that is possible to do. Having the new entire car component available to swap on my car ? I hate the 5speed😢 same 5.7hemi. But less miles and 8speeds.
@@el-dete thank you for the contribution! you can do the swap, but it's not as simple as you may think. You will need the ECU and the body control module and Associated sensors. Of course the harness... It would be significantly easier to pick up th the 8 speed car and give it a refresh.

@@el-dete I see, keep in mind it will require a full harness and sensor swap I typically advise against it. A really solid transmission tune can make that nag one work extremely well. I would hate to see you spend a ton of money and time trying to make it work only to be kicked in the pants

Bryan, my 2005 300C 5.7 nag1 Runs a 13.8 at 100 miles per hour. All things being the same ,what would it run with the modern eight-speed? Sounds like at least 3 tenths better. What is your guesstimate? Why didn't Chrysler make a V8 all-wheel drive 300 with the 8-speed? Any ideas?
The first thing I would suggest should be involved is selling your 2007 and buying a car with an 8 speed from the factory. ...Your ECU is non compatible with the TCM in the 8 speed.

I have a question. I have a 5.7 I'm stroking to 396 and using milodon oil pan. I'm curious to know if a 6.4 / 8hp70 structural dust cover will work on my 5.7 / nag 1? The aftermarket oil pans don't have the dust cover built in like the factory oil pans.
@@bmasontv Moroso makes an old school dust cover style to use with the aftermarket oil pans that wouldn't be structural in nature. You think the reinforced/structural oil pan dust cover is really critical? I wouldn't think it really adds that much rigidity and support? Plenty of old school high horsepower cars out there with nothing more than a tin cover. Oh well couldn't be to hard to make myself something out of steel.

like my 46rh 2:65 low....COMPAIRED to a reduculess 4:71 .....8 psd. 4:71x 3:92.....equals drag race. or in simple words slicks REQUIRED... MASON.. old school still say 3:90s your car would scream all the way down the track.. so what if you had to drive the speed limit. every car or dodge pick up 3:90s were nuts in the higher gears..... plus you in the 8spd. have a double over drive and one more point I've been spinning 3:90s since 97, just gave up the 75-80 mph, and happy to live with the 70mph and less road trips, one thing these old 5.9 magnums they make decent 345 tq, at 3000 rpms.. my old 96 reg cab short bed ram ran a best of 14:42 with a stock tourqe converter.....oh yes it had 3:92s... love your live chats..... and your ride alongs.. have a good one B. I own both. NAG1 for my daily and I will tell you first hand it’s not even close. The 8-speed is twice as good. It’s pretty shocking really. But the 8-speed is not just tons better than only the NAG1. It’s better engineered and geared than most transmissions I have experience the last 5 years. I am a finance manager at a dealership and I can demo any used car I want. After spending ample time behind the wheel of everything besides super cars you would be shocked at how much better his ZF 8 speed is than transmissions found it Infinit, Acura, Audi, Medcedes. Damn sure better than Camaro and Mustang. However the 2018+ Mustang GT with PP1 and 10-speed auto with 3.73 Is the only auto I like more than dodges 8-speed. The nag1 was pretty ho hum in 2012. In 2021 it is really really dated. But what I do like about the NAG1 is it feels out school. Feels like I’m driving a classic after I hop out of a Mercedes C-63 AMG S
B Mason I was wondering the same thing. I personally was weighing options between 392 swapping and later camming my RT vs getting a Hellcat. But if I get a Hellcat, would the 6 speed be worth it for racing in general due to the what you can do with an 8 speed and how it puts down the torque and power?
The 8-speed Auto will always be a better drag car than a 6-speed, at these weights and horsepower levels. Obviously the fun factor of the 6-speed is still there. I'm trying to drag race a 6-speed. The auto is a better platform, B Mason knows more than I do about this subject.
It's just this ZF 8 speed is so damn good at everything it does. The Tremec 6 speed is hardly mention. Am seriously looking at purchasing a new Challenger with the 392. Which transmission should I get if I mainly drive highways a few country back roads. But still need to be able to whipped up on other vehicles that want to travel out to Mexico?

@@daddycuh2211 only when built, will a nag1 handle more power than a stock HP 70. You're far better off with the 8-speed. Up to roughly 500 horsepower to 550 horsepower to the rear wheels you are safe with the 8-speed
Srt9 with a 3.09 and a nag 1 convert the differential to a 373 and oooooo boy... make a video on differential swap and components for swap. Be a great video. Gear swap is huge in these cars
Most of this video and commenting is from the performance viewpoint, I wish to speak from a daily driver and highway driver perspective. I owned a 2010 Chrysler 300 Nag1, 3.5l engine, and then a 2014 Chrysler 300 8HP450E and 3.6l car. First, these cars are AWD and heavy, more than 4200 lbs. I felt the 2010 drove like an overburdened 3.5 with the gas mileage of a Hemi. It wasn't terrible, just heavy feeling. The 2014 felt livelier and the mileage was greatly improved. I think the 3.6 is a better engine than the 3.5, but a lot of the improvement in driving pleasure is credited to the transmission. Keeping the engine in its power band when accelerating and then allowing lower RPM when cruising is a good set of compromises. The only negative thing about the 8 speed is the constant shifting.
The 3.5 Chrysler 300 was a dog you did a lot of upgrades just to the engine for it to perform decently that was more the engine and the transmission having issues
Have a 2017 charger RT stock Rear and no joke be smoking 5 speed Auto and 6 Speed manual.. Really ramps up after 2nd.... 6.1 dont have sh*t on my RT... Real deal
You totally ignored the CAN bus system and what a pain it makes and modifying a nag1 car... Also, there are no aftermarket engine management systems that work with the nag1. If you were looking at making serious power, 1000 plus, ditch the nag1 sooner than later.
You obviously haven't check out SouthernHotrod.com and Sound German Engineering. From talking to them the NAG1 aka MB 722.6 is a great lightweight high torque capacity transmission for its time and can be easily be modified to handle 1000 hp. In my twin turbo LSx swap into my '95 Chevy Caprice I am considering dumping my built-up 4L80e plans for a NAG1. It is just simply a better transmission overall. I am into road course and Auto-X than drag racing. And even on the drag strip the MB E55 regularly beat out its BMW M5 rival on the 1/4 mile b/c of the 722.6 transmission.

I got a NAG 1 in my 14' charger Hemi. If you take care of it, and service it when needed, then it will take care of you.

My Mopar 11’ has the Nag1 with the 3.91 rear end. At 50 mph in 5th gear it’s already at 2k rpm😅

Not sure. I have always used stock pans with modified windage trays.

Yes it is, just have to build the nag one, that said most guys end up going stroker Whipple combinations with the nag 1 at that point

A stage 1 nag1 (1000hp rating) cost the same as an stock 8 speed what are u talking about ?
