    It's a popular trail in Utah (email me if you want to know where). Despite the meager look in the video, I think this is the most challenging obstacle at 5 miles of Hell. Due to circumstances, the last time I was here, we had to push my bike up this thing since it wouldn't start. Long story we've covered in the past (blown fuse I didn't diagnose). So this time, I was pretty nervous since I'd never hit it before and I'd seen many failures, but also many successful attempt as well.
    After making it pretty cleanly on that first attempt, I decided to get shots of Tyler and Garrett practicing on it. Made for some fun footage. Hopefully you like the edit!

    I saw this in person for the first time a few weeks ago. For those of you studying video in the hopes of going down, study his body position. Your only hope is good body position, throttle/clutch control, AND momentum. He makes this line of obstacles look a LOT smaller and more manageable than a mere mortal can tackle. Speed is your friend, but you need all three before you can do what you see here. #respect

    Well done video! Best I've seen. I rode that trail in 2015 on my '13 300XC-W. The Crux is, by far, the hardest part. In the same ride I rode a 2014 YZ250F (set up for a rider 75 lbs lighter) up the Crux for a fellow rider. I took the same line as you with both bikes. Same results!

      How'd you like the OC forks compared to the AER48s on the xc?

    • @thepatternforms859
      @thepatternforms859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clintonlied I prefer the softer set up on the XCW. The PDS is linkless and the open cartridge is more durable and predictable. The bike just floats over the nastiest stuff. The AER forks can be softened up to mimic the XCW Explor forks though. But the AER forks and the linkage set up on XC models is a hybrid setup built for mixed in high speed moto sections with large jumps (hair scrambles) and not exclusively for the woods or extreme enduro gnar. For that you def want to stick with the XCW. There’s a reason the pros take the XCW to erzberg or romaniacs and not the XC. Just my two cents

    • @7daniel49
      @7daniel49 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thepatternforms859 5 moh isnt close to hard enduro. the reality is that most of anyone riding, unless you're training in creek beds, is going to be faster than where the xcw excels. its all preference. i prefer linkage as its more active and air as it is more supportive. my xc will go over more than your xcw. if you cant ride it on a xc, you wont be able to ride it on an xcw.

    • @thepatternforms859
      @thepatternforms859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@7daniel49 totally not true. Mate, there is a reason why the pros take XCW models to erzberg and romaniacs not XC models. And it has more to do with than just creek beds (although the XCW is better than an XC there too).
      The XCW is more capable and suited better than an XC in several situations...On steep switch backs try doing pivot turns on an XCW then try on an XC. The XCW gear box is MUCH more suited. Same goes for loading the fly wheel from a near stand still and splattering onto massive boulders or over logs without hitting the frame or linkage...In addition the linkless PDS suspension just glides and floats over anything without getting hung up or rocking you to the side. Headlight is a sweet thing to have too.
      XC is a great bike don’t get me wrong but it is no XCW. Compromises where made to make the XC a better hybrid for faster speed open terrain (GNCC style Hairrambles with mixed in moto track). Think of the XC bike being a split between the motocross SX bikes and the hard enduro XCW woods bikes. The XC can do a lot but it is not the best choice for motocross nor is it the best choice for hard or extreme enduro woods riding.
      This is common knowledge really.
      Moreover, The newest suspension and frame on the 2020+ XCW is actually better than ever. It’s a new bike practically and can be ridden much faster than ever before. For 99% of riders the XCW is much faster than the riders skill level. You have that backwards.
      Lots of XC guys will get offended hearing this point of view but it’s true; the XC is simply not as good on motocross tracks as an SX even though XC guys will try and tell you it is. The same is true with offroad enduro and the XCW models.
      The idea that the majority of riders are too fast for the new XCW bikes is a joke. And the idea that your XC will go over more stuff than an XCW is also a joke. Surely you are kidding ...

    Hey, you're supposed to do this in August. About 12 of us headed to Moab in mid-April from the TrueNorthMotos and Marlboro Men crowd. My 3rd time. The first time was as a pretty newb guy solo. Planted my foot in a steep spot, looped bike, got all the weight on my right foot and snapped my Achilles. That was day 8 of a 23-day road trip, the Achilles had me off the bike one day, kept traveling the SW of USA. Would take 3 yrs to 90% heal. Watch yourself in Moab, sneaky dangers...there's a reason why every group has one guy in a cast/crutches.
