My wife thought I was crazy when she came into the garage and found me taking apart my brand new 300rr to check everything for grease and tightness. Beta did a great job on the grease in 2017.
Brakes and suspension are two major things I always look at when buying used bikes. Check under the engine and cases for any welds or cracks. Look at the sprockets for wear. Check the air filter and see if it's been properly cleaned and maintained (gives a good idea of how well the previous owner cared and maintained their bike). If its a two stroke, remove the exhaust chamber and flash a light inside the exhaust port to see any visual damage and the piston. Check compression. Look for sounds and squeaking noises with the suspension (suspension can be costly to replace parts). Check for side to side movement in the wheels/axles. Check coolant level.
Great tips Kyle, thanks. I also grease the steering stem bearings and swingarm bearing as well as the linkage bearings as you mentioned. Re torque everything to the factory specs.I do that before I even ride the bike because it is much easier to do when the bike is clean.
Rear brake lever position adjustment, bar control position adjustment, grease your main pivot pin (that swingarm works alot). Intall an hour meter straight away, oversized fuel tanks are popular, and .ost importantly, piece together a good small tool kit that you can either carry or attach to the bike 😊
I'd like to add a note to the bar pad section. My dad runs an odometer on his race bike from the times of timekeepers enduros, and to put that on there he had to take off the bar pad, and about 8 weeks ago he was racing a normal desert scramble high speed and hit a dip and smashed his jaw on the computer. Broke his jaw in multiple places and got surgery, the first few nights before surgery he couldn't move because all the pieces would move independently. The EXC's come with that lame excuse for a bar pad and that's what I have so for the past month since I got home for college since my dad hasn't been able to ride I took the stock pad from his XC and put it on my EXC, because I ride it pretty hard. He also has an EXC but he doesnt ride it hard, it's mostly a computer/rides with the whole family bike, because my sister and mom dont ride nearly as hard and both have 230s. I have a 350 dualsport, my dad has a 350 XC race and a 500 dual sport. If anybody has read this far, do you know where to find an american flag bar pad that isn't brand specific? Like a plain bar pad with an American flag but no logos of any kind. I found the ones with logos by protaper and renthal, the protaper one the logo covers way to much, the renthal one isnt too bad but I dont want to be the guy running a renthal bar pad with stock non renthal bars. Or if anyone knows where to get the stock ktm handlebar pad, because I really like the shape of them and they dont get in the way of the speedometer on the EXC bikes.
Awesome list Kyle! Thanks for posting it. I will not hit the trails without setting the suspension. For me, that means a rebuild because I’m 6’2” 230. I don’t love the cost, but the results make it essential. So much safer with a properly set suspension as well.
Another great piece for the money are two small stainless eyelets that go to a fork bolt [one on each side] and give you a great tie down point no more over the seat ratchet strap or finagling around the handlebars. Paid 20$ at the bike shop best $ spent
I think it's time you got a bigger work space. I have a 16x16 building too and I'm doing 1 bike. I can't imagine cramming 4 in there and trying to work on them. Channel has grown you deserve it
Hello Kyle, I have just bought my first 2 stroke a Te300I husky and My mate has the Fe350 4 stroke both great bikes. The Question is what are the recommended sprocket sizes please using the bikes for trail riding and enduro. many thanks
I just bought a 2014 150sx for 4 grand we know it was well maintained it was my dads buddy he used to be a bike mechanic but be bad a te300i but anyway 4 grand and they just put new tires and mousse in both wheels😂
If you change the tires before you even ride what do you do with the brand new stock ones? Maybe give them away on the channel to those who could use some tires!
Kyle. thank you for your videos. They are super cool! A non bike related question. Can you tell me what wristwatch are you using? I can tell is a Citizen but what model? Thank you!
Love your channel I have watch many videos. But I can not find one with how to brake a 22 beta 300RR from new. I hear so many different opinions. What is your brake in?
Do you have an extra taillight assembly for a 17-19? I have a 19 EXC dualsport and only about 30 hours on it and I have already cracked the stock license plate holder and was looking into either the xcw taillight or something like the sicass or tusk racing assembly to tuck it up higher and also lose some weight so it isnt bouncing around and making it easier to get caught in the tyre. Have you had much experience with the street legal KTMS or have any suggestions for solving this issue?
Not_A_Cancer_Username go to a dirt bike shop and buy one. If you want a Yamaha search for a Yamaha Dealer close by or order it. Or look for a ktm shop close buy and buy one. It’s like buying a car
They ONLY make motocross bikes. If they start making a real Offroad bike, I’d eventually try it. They have some trail bikes but nothing that interests me so far.
Hey so all you need to do is just buy some awesome merchandise and we inter in to the dirt bike giveaway ??? I’m asking because I starting a TH-cam channel with four wheeler and trying to get a dirt bike (don’t feel sorry for me I’m not sad I’m happy 😃)

Hoosier Daddy it’s always good to go over things especially when new that way everything will last a long time

I don't see why you wouldn't want to do all of these. Increase reliability and safety. Very informative for a newer rider like myself.

Rides new 20 TX300i yesterday for the first time...tears meniscus. Good times. Loving the beast.

Appreciate all the good guidance Kyle. I figure I can never go too wrong if I do what Kyle does. 🤜
The 2 most important things that will give you the biggest bang, spring the bike for your weight and set the sag.

Hi Kyle. Where do I get the sock type fuel filter in the top of the tank in this video.Cheers
www.ktm.com/us/enduro/250-xc-w-tpi/chassis this is for the 250 xcw I’m guessing it would work for your model don’t quote me on it tho
Test the new yz125x
I check fuel, my mechanic does the rest. I'm terrible with a tool in my hand, I'd strip every bolt if I went round checking bolts. Thanks though 👍
What is that motorcycle ramp your using? Seems pretty user friendly

You should do reviews on the other brands like Suzuki and Kawasaki. I’d be interested to see how they compare.
Can you do a video on what you do before you ride
Where do you buy that swingarm tab protector?
D.j.Y GAMING5 he doesn't answer his subscribers...
bulletproofdesigns.com/
They make everything to do with protection.
thoughts on radiator braces?....and how do I get you credit at RMATV without going to your videos every time?
Just bookmark this link and use it : www.rockymountainatvmc.com/l/Dirt-Bike-Channel?ref=1017
Great video
Can you link a description of the floor pump you use, I can't seem to find one that will pump up to 100lbs
What do you need 100 PSI for?
For a beginner, is the Yamaha yz250fx or Ktm xcw 250 the more manageable bike? Which one do you recommend?
Yz250fx would be better for e beginner
Hey Kyle. Just sold my Yz250f. Moving towards a ktm 150xcw or a yz250f. Havent decided yet!. What do you think
Anthony Doyon Get the ktm xcw👍🏻
@@enduroisland4202 I think I'm gonna go for a brand new yz250fx. Seems like a better all around bike for me.

How about Craigslist? Or a motorcycle dealership?
No rad guards o.o ?
Grease all bearings, linkage, swingarm, wheel and steering stem. New or used it doesn't matter.

Nice vid bro! U remind me of the TH-camr Wheelie Sam Vlogs
What are the skid plates you use with linkage protection?
I have a sxs plastic skid plate that covers linkage. It comes off and on easy but I still managed to dent my frame with it on.
The plastic ones he has are AXP

You say 'install' alot in the video... maybe you should weigh your bike stock then after all your installs are done.
Thanks you. F 🇲🇾
Just wondering why u never buy Kawasaki’s😂
