Oh I'm not surprised that you mentioned "Children of men" because that movie was one of the influences for the narrative. Really love your content and the way you break everything down. Keep it up mate!!!
Nah, the tv show gets way too much hate. It's very well written and done very well in general; the two are just different experiences that portray the same characters done in a different way from one and other. They're both worth experiencing for different reasons imo.
I do like the emotional acting of the game a lot more. The acting and voice acting was very emotional and is the definitive version. Personally I like Game Joel more than HBO Joel, the only thing the tv show suffers from is any scene where they quote/act direct scenes of the games instead of making it their own. It's a great show, I look forward to season 2 - but the game will always be the definitve edition for me. (Even Part II)
The show is good. But the only thing it does better than the game IMO is Bills past story arc… Which might not even be fair because it does not exist in the games.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is made by the same studio and is just as cinematic as this. It’s more action packed though. Like Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones combined. You could start at the beginning but they give you the gist of the other games in 4 and 4 is the most recent and will look very similar to this game.
I'll put in a vote for watching Uncharted 4! (just maaaaybe watch a quick recap of games 1-3, though you'll totally get all the important emotional bits from context anyway) Might honestly be top 3 favourite romance stories for me, which is sort of hilarious for an action-adventure, shoot-a-1000-people, ruin-a-dozen-holy-sites kind-of series 😂
2:15:08 (haven’t watched the rest past here, might have already been explained) these are stalkers they have been infected longer then the runners (drones you called them) but not at much as the clickers. There smart, they hide behind corners and ambush, and there quiet. You saw the listen mode where it all goes grey and the zombies are white, the stalkers are almost invisible when there hiding. DEFINITELY the scariest variant, terrifying to play against.
the color theory of the last of us is truly some of the best in gaming. it's a subtle detail thats often missed, and I suppose thats what makes it so well done
1:08:42 "Probably reminds him of his daughter." ... If you pay close attention after he has that little moment with Ellie you can see him briefly glance down at the watch. One thing you're kinda missing by watching this supercut is that there's a lot of cool background storytelling and world building being done via notes you can find lying around. Maybe you can find a collection of them somewhere. Would probably be hard to try to line up with this video, you'd probably end up spoiling something, but maybe when your done watching.
After you finish part 1 you have to check out part 2! The story gets so much more involved! Another game to check out after these two is Red Dead Redemption, particularly the second game.
So some notes about the gameplay side: - You can not stealth kill a clicker without a shiv like you can the normal "zombies" and humans. They're too strong. - Shivs are a consumable resource. Stabbing breaks a shiv in anywhere from 1 to 3 uses depending on upgrades. On the hardest difficulty you get like 10 for the whole game lol - Clickers instant kill you. At 1:23:15 the player would have died but they have the upgrade to survive by using a shiv (this appears to be a ng+ savefile but with unupgraded weapons). It does not damage the clicker. - This is on one of the easier difficulties which is why the guard at the capitol didn't see him. The hardest, grounded, makes the game even more cinematic by removing most hud. There is a 'hearing' mode that highlights enemies through walls but on grounded it only works if the enemy makes noise, and only highlights the spot on the ground where the noise came from, not the enemy. - You can just run for it out of the capitol building. I'm not sure why the player here chose to stay and fight them. You can skip most encounters with stealth. - I'm glazing grounded but it truly is the best way to play this game. Some resources and ammo types are a bit 'too' scarce though maybe, you barely get to ever use them (hunting rifle lol) - Those guys at 2:15:00 are the fourth type of infected enemy. They're like the normal ones but actively take cover and dodge (so yes it was intentional). They are also very rare, only found in a few places.
All the little animations you picked up and the attention to detail is why this game is one of my all time favourite games. I have finished this game over 15 times with many more to come. The story is phenomenal and Joel is one for my favourite characters iv played. I would give anything to feel that feeling of playing this game for the first time again.
Man, that scene where his daughter dies hit me harder than ever this time. When I played the game myself, I was just shocked but didn't have tears in my eyes. When I showed the scene to my brother and my mom, I had to fight the tears. Now, however, 11 years later, as a grown man, my eyes flooded so fast. And I don't even have kids .. I really enjoy these long videos, Kai. It's like watching classics together with a friend. I do stuff on my main monitor and have you on my second. It's just so relaxing!

Great insights as well, you pulled out some info I wouldn’t have picked up on like the lighting. I think that is why I really enjoy your content, just cool to hear it from your perspective. Haha! I didn't mean it but I was not expecting that and yeah, almost had me bad. Like ugly face crying, thank the maker I could talk about filmmaking to distract me.
One thing missing from this edit of the game is the Joel death animations which really help put the fear of dying in you. They are brutal and hard to watch, but really short because the screen cuts to black before it gets too messy, leaving you to finish the scene in your own head.
You’re not the only one I was crying to at the intro one of the best intros in gaming history in my opinion one you never forget. Felt like a movie or real life
Ah man, I watched this entire video in 1 sitting, went over to your channel to look for the next part and saw that this was only posted 3 days ago. I can't wait for more!
42:25 Oh my god. How have you quoted/guessed the game twice in the space of a few seconds, before the fact? 😄 About her being the cure, and then her being the daughter of someone important. Brilliant
Over time the fungus infection in the victims gets worse and fungus escapes through their eyes, ears mouth and nostrils completely eveloping their heads making them blind, they use the clicking sound that they do like echo location to hunt their victims the infected bodies then bloat up and get very hard to inflict damage upon so that plant around its head you were wondering what was, was a fungus or mushroom
I really enjoy your videos, especially your reactions to the story and cinematography. The reason various character voices are so familiar in this game is because other than Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson playing the main characters, there are a number of great voice actors such as Laura Bailey, Jennifer Hale, Steve Blum, Matthew Mercer, Liam O'Brien, Fred Tatasciore and Travis Willingham that provide additional voices for survivors and infected. I can't wait for the next part of this game.
I’m already ready to see your reaction to the second half! Great watch and I love hearing your thoughts on it and explaining how you see it through your eyes
fun fact! the opening credits that had intro exposition where they were showing the fungal growth was actual time lapsed fungus that the devs grew in a bathtub (in a controlled environment) to record and use for the intro exposition.
Yeah, the person who's playing this game must either be a first time or they just really suck at it. They missed so many good parts, little tidbits that give more depth to the characters. Guess it's a good thing though. You'll be able to have some surprises if you ever decide to play it. Looking forward to the next video.🤘
14:51 the documentary behind the scenes explains that apparently this was the hardest day of shooting for Troy baker due to this scene. Troy was getting extremely emotional and sobbing and screaming. The director knew this was hard for him and so told them they got the shot and can move on. Well apparently some time later he told Troy they would need to do reshoots and it was this scene and as mad as Troy was he came in and tried a different and slower/more subtle pace to it and it’s arguably the most iconic scene in the entire franchise. Even before I started watching your vids moments like this show when an actor and director are on point true cinematic magic can happen. I say director because it’s gotta be tough telling your lead they’re guna need to redo the most difficult day for them and as the actor understanding something wasnt quite right and accepting that adjusting your approach is going to make the scene better.
2:09:53 in the Last of Us Part 2 they make this a fairly common occurrence. Often you'll take out a guard or sometimes a guard dog and the characters will express their grief and desire for revenge towards you. I won't spoil anything, but revenge is a big theme in the second game.
Didn't see this one coming, what a pleasant surprise. looking forward to the reaction for the last of us !!! very glad its a gameplay one as well, every moment of this game is a masterpiece.
53:13 this game is what you choose. you can either go guns and blazing as you said and or you stealth just depending on your play style. 57:32 zombies first start as runners where they can see completely and run like humans as their age they get older and older and yes, they get more blind so then they turned to clickers if they keep getting older and older and older, they turned into blowters. So yes, the older they are the less they can see. 1:27:20 the clickers have the fungus growing on their faces and around their body basically kind of like a protection or a shield so m it protects them from the of things such as bullets so you have to chip it away in order to get to the brain.
Oh dear the first scene is so hard , i cry every time and i saw that intro like .... A lot ! Also, i will go check if you already did it but "detroit become human" is really nice to see.
They used performance capture with the actors, so that may account for how well they animated the expressions/reactions. There's a number of BTS vids on it out there. I've never played the game myself, but I've seen some playthroughs (one with the actor that plays Joel, Troy Baker) to absorb the story.
Was just thinking after watching the God of War reactions, if you were going to react to The Last of Us. I absolutely love the characters and the attention to detail. Looking forward to seeing your insight!
2:09:55 it’s funny you mention that you think they’ll call out names when someone is shot, because that’s exactly what the NPC’s do in the second game.

I'm excited to see you go through this series - you're also in a unique position to also watch and react to the Last of Us TV show if you so desire. I think it'd be neat to react to this AND that and see the differences between them. Might be a unique experience.
They do full performance capture on a soundstage and all the "cameras" are added afterwards. It's almost like theatre where every single movement is being recorded. Similar to how they make the Avatar movies. There's a documentary about the making of the game that's really good, it's called "Grounded: The making of the last of us". It's on the playstation youtube page. 🙂
really good details in this game about the infected is that the early infected still have signs of human in them so you can hear a lot of them have human like yelps
As a gamer, to a filmmaker such as yourself. While experiencing this game through cutscenes can give you some genuinely great idea for future projects, the real value is the care the developers did here to make us connect with these characters. The impacts of the remaining sequences had such resounding effects that's made this game so controversial. The fact that people had both such amazing things to say on one side and general disdain on the other is indicative of the storytelling's brilliance.
I would recommend watching the behind the scenes for the game that the PlayStation channel released. It goes into a lot of detail about the making and filming of the game.
Yoooo I’m so glad you’re reacting to the last of us, one of the greatest game ever made in my opinion. But lemme tell you, the sequel is next level in terms of cinematography, and do bring tissues cuz these are sad games.
By the way, you mentioned the clickers look like plants are growing out of them, that's because that is the premise of TLOU. This is not a spoiler. There is a real fungus that can infect ants to basically make them into zombies and control them to spread itself further and in this universe this fungus has evolved to withstand higher body temperatures a.k.a. evolved to infect humans. I think it's called Cordyceps and that's what you see growing out of infected or in infected areas. It's not that much explained in the game but the show explains it a lot more

I'm upset that the player didn't look at the house fire raaaaah
ikr also not showing franks letter was so AHHHH
fr just looked forward the whole time, so awkward lol
Hardly anyone realises you can move Sarah around and look everywhere.
@@scottneil1187 that's a dumb thing to say lmao, if you play games and your character is just staring in one direction while stuff is going on around you, your first instinct should be holy shit what's that then move the stick to look at it. the people that don't look and move the stick are people who don't care to or are not familiar with games what so ever and are just posting for a cash grab
Oh I'm not surprised that you mentioned "Children of men" because that movie was one of the influences for the narrative. Really love your content and the way you break everything down. Keep it up mate!!!
Everything about this game is better than the TV series imo, including the camera movement and acting (especially the cut scenes)
and still better then most tv adaptations xd
Yeah the show is a piece of shit, especially the casting
52:09 the fact that he plucked out Steve Blum's voice as an extra is WILD. SPIKEEE!
the color theory of the last of us is truly some of the best in gaming. it's a subtle detail thats often missed, and I suppose thats what makes it so well done
I love your channel dude ❤
That's super kind of you to say, I really appreciate it fella.
Yes he will love that game, can wait for red dead ghost of tsushima
So some notes about the gameplay side:
- You can not stealth kill a clicker without a shiv like you can the normal "zombies" and humans. They're too strong.
- Shivs are a consumable resource. Stabbing breaks a shiv in anywhere from 1 to 3 uses depending on upgrades. On the hardest difficulty you get like 10 for the whole game lol
- Clickers instant kill you.
Some resources and ammo types are a bit 'too' scarce though maybe, you barely get to ever use them (hunting rifle lol)
- Those guys at 2:15:00 are the fourth type of infected enemy.
I LITERALLY SEARCHED THIS ON YOUR CHANNEL A FEW DAYS AGO WTF. W VIDEO
Love your reaction. Very fresh insights on this masterpiece of a game.
the infected in this game are easily the best "zombie" type in my opinion especially since its based on an actual fungus
Yes and we should also give credit to "28 days later" for this new era of fast running zombies, real illness plot, and other innovations
Age man, makes feel all kind of things. That's awesome fella, I'm glad we can hang out together, that's exactly what I wanted the videos to be like.
One of the most gorgeous game I've EVER played was Ghost of Tsushima, and the story is amazing.
It came second on the poll but don't you worry, I've got you.
Honestly, muah! Absolutely a great intro into this. Great part 1. I can’t wait for the next one. Great job man. Great insights as well, you pulled out some info I wouldn’t have picked up on like the lighting. I think that is why I really enjoy your content, just cool to hear it from your perspective. Can’t wait for the next post man!
Thank you for watching and part II is on it's way. I'm curious to see if they'll answer my questions and what's going to happen. Will my predictions come true! Haha
"Whoever voted on the pole for this. you're sick"
Yeah I agree... I was not prepared for my eyes watering today.
Haha! I didn't mean it but I was not expecting that and yeah, almost had me bad. Like ugly face crying, thank the maker I could talk about filmmaking to distract me.
@@kaizammitthe behind the scenes for that scene is up and even the actors were sobbing during every take
One thing missing from this edit of the game is the Joel death animations which really help put the fear of dying in you. They are brutal and hard to watch, but really short because the screen cuts to black before it gets too messy, leaving you to finish the scene in your own head.
I was literally praying for exactly this video omg
Glad it was here for you.
Finally, he did it
You’re not the only one I was crying to at the intro one of the best intros in gaming history in my opinion one you never forget. Felt like a movie or real life
Part 1 and part 2 are absolutely works of art on every level.
Ah man, I watched this entire video in 1 sitting, went over to your channel to look for the next part and saw that this was only posted 3 days ago. I can't wait for more!
Sorry, it's coming this weekend or it's available to watch right now on the Patreon. ✌🏻
Just found this channel and subbed, how long is the wait for the second part? It was so good seeing this
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it. Part II will be coming tonight for the Patreons and TH-cam, hopefully the weekend.
1:52:51 “he’s bitter, like a sad Ex!” 👀
42:25 Oh my god. How have you quoted/guessed the game twice in the space of a few seconds, before the fact? 😄 About her being the cure, and then her being the daughter of someone important. Brilliant
Over time the fungus infection in the victims gets worse and fungus escapes through their eyes, ears mouth and nostrils completely eveloping their heads making them blind, they use the clicking sound that they do like echo location to hunt their victims the infected bodies then bloat up and get very hard to inflict damage upon so that plant around its head you were wondering what was, was a fungus or mushroom
12:34 Wilhelm scream lmao
I missed it but glad I did or this video would have got a 0 out of 10!
YEEEESSSS, finally. I've been waiting for this one !!
Looking forward to part 2 !
I’m already ready to see your reaction to the second half! Great watch and I love hearing your thoughts on it and explaining how you see it through your eyes
Available this weekend on TH-cam, Patreon have it now with no ads. Whatever you choose, happy to hang out with you.
fun fact! the opening credits that had intro exposition where they were showing the fungal growth was actual time lapsed fungus that the devs grew in a bathtub (in a controlled environment) to record and use for the intro exposition.
Yeah, the person who's playing this game must either be a first time or they just really suck at it. They missed so many good parts, little tidbits that give more depth to the characters. Guess it's a good thing though. You'll be able to have some surprises if you ever decide to play it. Looking forward to the next video.🤘
The world building in this game was always mind-blowing to me.
In the TV Series i love the episode 3 with Bill so much.
1:36:15 will always be my fav lil scene lol
2:09:53 in the Last of Us Part 2 they make this a fairly common occurrence. Often you'll take out a guard or sometimes a guard dog and the characters will express their grief and desire for revenge towards you. I won't spoil anything, but revenge is a big theme in the second game.
I like this. There should be more reactions like this to video game cinematics
Can't wait for more of this, I hope you do part 2 too, would love to see what you think of it!
Didn't see this one coming, what a pleasant surprise. looking forward to the reaction for the last of us !!! very glad its a gameplay one as well, every moment of this game is a masterpiece.
Kai, your content, quality and analysis is fantastic. I'm glad I got to find your channel! Best wishes to you in these holidays
Amazing to hear and happy holidays to you too!!
Why is this content so good. Loving it Kai
Thank you for hanging out with me!
U nailed this one. Some great moments where u called it perfectly. I'm amazed if u haven't come across this game before
I LOVE this game! So glad you reacted to it!
Pt 2 wheeeenn?! 😭 i'm loving this.
Now what I really am hoping to see if you doing TLOU Part 2
Naughty Dog are truly the masters of their craft. Beautiful stories and incredible visuals. Just an absolute feast for the senses.
Oh dear the first scene is so hard , i cry every time and i saw that intro like .... A lot !
Also, i will go check if you already did it but "detroit become human" is really nice to see.
I've not covered that game yet. Next year though.
I love to see a filmmaker's reaction to The Last of Us. It is educational and enlightening.
They used performance capture with the actors, so that may account for how well they animated the expressions/reactions. There's a number of BTS vids on it out there. I've never played the game myself, but I've seen some playthroughs (one with the actor that plays Joel, Troy Baker) to absorb the story.
Definitely not ready for the 2nd game 😮💨 The cinematography is absolutely stunning, definitely worth a watch when you’re done with this one!
Absolute banger of a video, chill and nothing but love for how much detail has been put into The Last of Us Part 1. Watching you be excited and wanting to play now made me want to get a PS5 just to play it too lol Can't wait for the rest of your reaction and talk through movie framing, sound and scene set ups 👍
It's made me want a PS5. Granted I've got a PC but I kind of want the whole experience if that makes sense.
Filming part 2 in a few minutes! Hopefully up by the weekend or Patreon later today.
My God! The person playing this playtrough gives me such anxiety, for moments they need to run, they start shooting and swinging!
wow wasn't expecting last of us but this truly is a great game and story, glad your enjoying and cannot wait for you to get to red dead redemption 2 ! Another great video btw
I saw the time on the video. Over 2 and a half hours?! GREAT! I happily watched every minute.
Enjoy the ride! This is a wonderful story. :)
The last of us is my all time favorite story based game with an amazing sound track. After this you should react to Red Dead Redemption 2 cuz it takes a close second for me
"That's actually before my time." Proceeds to play Hank Williams on top of the amazing comedy. There's a reason why Joel is one of the most beloved video game characters since Mario.
1:38:00 No, Bill was talking about a non-infected human soldier killing Sarah.
Super excited for the second game.
I'm excited to see you go through this series - you're also in a unique position to also watch and react to the Last of Us TV show if you so desire. I think it'd be neat to react to this AND that and see the differences between them. Might be a unique experience.
Peak after Peak game reactions. This game is old but has an absolutely beautiful story
you are amazing sir!!
Goated channel ngl, keep up the great work
Kai (in suspense): what’s behind them… Ellie: there’s something on your foot🤣🤣
It's not that much explained in the game but the show explains it a lot more
crazy detail I noticed is when the player flashes his flashlight toward Ellie at 1:05:00 she covered her face
